Unscrew it. Throw it away. Keep your spices away from light and air.
The person who mounted a spice rack into the fucking studs so a fridge won't fit there

Maybe it’s just tge perspective, but it looks like you could unscrew it, move the fridge in and then put it back in.
0li0li@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Probably can’t open the freezer with it in the way, or real close lol
Luminous5481@anarchist.nexus 3 weeks ago
If only there was some kind of solution to be found.
LodeMike@lemmy.today 3 weeks ago
Unscrew it
Luci@lemmy.ca 3 weeks ago
Yeah, you can even screw it back on after!

"The previous owner of this condo screwed a spice rack into the studs. Now I can’t remove my broken refridgerator…
mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
so unscrew it. why is this such a huge problem?
elucubra@sopuli.xyz 3 weeks ago
Because screwdrivers are regulated, screwdriver licenses are hard to obtain, and while most people can do the clockwise thing, counterclockwise is a skill that takes years to master.
mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
valid
Rooster326@programming.dev 3 weeks ago
It’s load bearing
mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
load bearing spices actually sounds like a pretty slick band name
Etterra@discuss.online 3 weeks ago
What you don’t have a screwdriver?
jordanlund@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Step 1: Re-hinge the fridge doors so they open the other way.
Step 2: Back the fridge into the corner first, then pivot to the right until seated.
You can tell by the cabinetry, they had a fridge in there already, possibly one taller than this.
taiyang@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
This is clearly a load bearing spice rack.
Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
starlinguk@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
At least you can unscrew it. My landlord put the pipe for the Lüftung where the fridge is supposed to go.
CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I mean, just unscrew the screws?
kbobabob@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 weeks ago
I dunno man. Sounds mildly infuriating to have to go get a screwdriver, come back and try unscrewing it only to realize you need a power tool because it is in the studs. Go get the drill, damnit battery is dead. Damnit extra battery is dead because I hardly use this damn thing.
unemployedclaquer@sopuli.xyz 3 weeks ago
I rely on ratcheting screwdrivers because I won’t be assed over batteries.
grue@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
If the battery for your impact driver (not drill, BTW) isn’t shared with a bunch of other tools from the same brand, you’re doing it wrong.
CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
You know, that’s true actually - ai retract my statement
Nomorereddit@lemmy.today 3 weeks ago
OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I loved this so much I went into your profile and upvoted some other comments.
Nomorereddit@lemmy.today 3 weeks ago
I love you, let’s run away together.
southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
Just screw it.
Start with some wine, maybe a back rub. Get it all relaxed and then just slide into it
UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 3 weeks ago
Putting the oven right up against the fridge is the real problem here.
unemployedclaquer@sopuli.xyz 3 weeks ago
I have no idea what I’m doing. Please say what you mean.
NutinButNet@hilariouschaos.com 3 weeks ago
When I bought my home, the fridge had a big ol burn spot on the side of it from the stove being right next to it lol. That’s probably what people may be referring to. I never use those two burners because of that despite getting a new stove and fridge since moving in just seeing that. Also the refrigerator sides will naturally get hot/warm as they expel heat from normal operations, so putting it next to something that is hot can be somewhat counterproductive for that too. Not going to cause it to overheat, but may not be the best position if you can help it. Kind of like how you wouldn’t want to put a heater positioned near your gaming PC if you want the best possible performance.
RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I know it can lower the lifespan of the fridge, but unsure if there’s more than that!
CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
Seems extremely efficient to me.
i_stole_ur_taco@lemmy.ca 3 weeks ago
And the fridge is just a hair too tall to slide under the vent hood, so you can’t even go around it.
There’s so many things that are mildly infuriating here. And taken all together…. Still mildly infuriating.
Quality post. I’m gonna kick back and be grateful I don’t have any appliances to move in my near future.
Bishma@discuss.tchncs.de 3 weeks ago
What are they cooking with they need to put that into a stud? Was it common for them to set their tungsten rolling pin atop and then hang their lead apron from the edge? Did they have a recipe that calls for a pinch of neutron star?
InvalidName2@lemmy.zip 3 weeks ago
Mounting your spice rack to the studs is just sage advice. Otherwise, you’re putting the structural integrity at risk, and if that fails, you’re in for a bad thyme. Trust me, this happened to me once. There was still paprika in my grout when I moved out. And to add salt to the wound, the landlord made me pay for the damage.
Brkdncr@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Allspice racks mounted tomatoes would require your landlord to cumin to the kitchen to at least approve the modification.
rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 weeks ago
That must be where they placed the weight of their sins
unemployedclaquer@sopuli.xyz 3 weeks ago
Its mounted into TWO studs
Buffalobuffalo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 weeks ago
Gotta do some pullups on this thing.
Drusas@fedia.io 3 weeks ago
This is more like /mildlyinconvenient.
unemployedclaquer@sopuli.xyz 3 weeks ago
I don’t see a difference
Drusas@fedia.io 3 weeks ago
You don't see a difference between mildly inconvenient and mildly infuriating? Oh god, are you my partner? Because they really need to learn some chill.
sem@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 weeks ago
Which is more mild, and which is more spicy?
Multiplexer@discuss.tchncs.de 3 weeks ago
Just move the spice bound to a different place?
4am@lemmy.zip 3 weeks ago
Stove doesn’t have 1.5ft clearance on either side, not up to code
CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
Can’t say I’ve ever seen a kitchen stove with 1.5ft of clearance in any home.
webkitten@piefed.social 3 weeks ago
That’s clearly a cat bed
unemployedclaquer@sopuli.xyz 3 weeks ago
That is brilliant
zr0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 weeks ago
Have you tried some WD-40?
Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 3 weeks ago
If you slid the left side of the fridge in first, it would fit fine.
unemployedclaquer@sopuli.xyz 3 weeks ago
The fridge is 29 and 3/8 deep and the rack is mounted about 28.5 from the wall so no, it won’t fucking fit. I’ll remove the rack, for everybody out there. Or I’ll put the fridge a bit further from the stove
theunknownmuncher@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
And then just never open the freezer door I guess
Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 weeks ago
Who’d need that anyway.
tacosanonymous@mander.xyz 3 weeks ago
I’m proud of you for only being mildly infuriated. I would smash it with fucking hammer.
Texas_Hangover@lemmy.radio 3 weeks ago
Or you could unscrew the fucking thing and move it somewhere else, but I’ll let you sort that out with your anger management therapist.
lagoon8622@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
If moving a spice rack is infuriating to OP I can’t imagine how cushy their day-to-day life is
unemployedclaquer@sopuli.xyz 3 weeks ago
Nah it would still be occupying the same space as the fridge
verdigris@lemmy.ml 3 weeks ago
But why can’t you just remove it? It being mounted into the studs isn’t any different than any other spot, it’s just more secure.
WhyIHateTheInternet@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I wouldn’t be tackling drywall work if I were him. Figuring out how to turn screws has completely halted this fridge operation.
unemployedclaquer@sopuli.xyz 3 weeks ago
That is also an attractive option. I’m mildly infuriated, after all.
SharkAttak@kbin.melroy.org 3 weeks ago
Hint: The top of the fridge can house many more spices than that minishelf
bstix@feddit.dk 3 weeks ago
Just tilt the fridge backwards before moving it in.
CanIFishHere@lemmy.ca 3 weeks ago
Tear down the house.
RodgeGrabTheCat@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
WTF. Even if the previous occupants had a short fridge, who wants a spice rack over the fridge. Just bizarre
Diddlydee@feddit.uk 3 weeks ago
Not bizarre if they kept stuff on top of the fridge and within reach that’s used regularly.
Agrivar@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
The only thing mildly infuriating about this post is knowing that fridge would fit. So, I guess, good job! I’m now mildly infuriated.
unemployedclaquer@sopuli.xyz 3 weeks ago
The fridge is 29 and 3/8 deep and the rack is mounted about 28.5 from the wall so no, it won’t fucking fit. I’ll remove the rack, for everybody out there.
FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I think OP knows they can unscrew it.
That’s probably why it’s only ‘mildly’ infuriating.
ZoteTheMighty@lemmy.zip 3 weeks ago
The endless stream of repeated “unscrew it” comments is also mildly infuriating.
sem@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 weeks ago
You mean mildly hilarious
TemplaerDude@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
I dunno, it’s kinda weird that they mention it’s “into the studs” as if it makes it a load-bearing spice rack. Just a weirdly irrelevant thing to say, makes me suspicious that OP thinks anything screwed into studs has to stay there forever or the house falls down.
Cataphract@lemmy.ml 3 weeks ago
I imagined it was because they wanted to use the fridge as a battering ram to knock it out of the wall or simply rip it down with their bare hands but alas the studs won out.
scarabic@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
This post is mildly infuriating. Unscrewing it is not even an “easy fix” it’s just plain and simple what you do.
FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Indeed. Everyone loves a pedant.
