- Comment on What's your opinions on film critics and film snobs?? 1 day ago:
I’m really curious how critics manage to this daily for years on end. Watching movie after movie for work has to have some negative effect on your mind at some point.

I swear they already asked this exact question but maybe it was under a different username.

Is there a question here?
- Comment on An 82-year-old YouTuber grandma was raided by police and SWATs during her live stream last night where she plays Minecraft to raise money for her grandsons cancer. Authorities brought 20 police cars 4 days ago:
Uvalde was time sensitive and real and yet we have video of police standing around in the hallways scrolling through Facebook on their phones while children were being murdered just feet away. Those pigs didn’t face any accountability. Don’t forget police took cases all the way to the Supreme Court to have it declared that they have zero duty to protect people.

Exactly. They treat this like a bomb threat when the perpetrator gets arrested, but completely gloss over the fact that the police are “the bomb” in this scenario and as human beings, they have full agency over their own actions. They should most definitely spend 5 minutes to determine the real situation but they dont because they never face accountability and just go off of whatever some random caller told them, especially when it means playing soldier.
- Comment on My brother wants to for Father's Day is volunteer at the local women's shelter. Not really a father but has two dogs. But is afraid to even ask because he is male. How does he go about this? 1 week ago:
Furthermore why would he need to be a father to volunteer at a women’s shelter on Fathers Day?
- Comment on Hexbear is incapable of understanding hypocrisy 1 week ago:
You didn’t state any objective facts other than stating it was a fork of lemmy. For someone who considers themselves to have such an elevated intellect, I’m surprised you didn’t realize that.
- Comment on Hexbear is incapable of understanding hypocrisy 1 week ago:
That’s obviously not their issue.
Perhaps if we were talking about sane individuals with consistent beliefs, but these people are hypocrisy incarnate. Years of being isolated in a cult environment has rotted their brains into what you see here.
- Comment on Hexbear is incapable of understanding hypocrisy 1 week ago:
You’d think a bunch of self proclaimed communists would support someone cloning software for free. Hexbear is such a joke.
- Comment on Is there an optimal angle when using a urinal? 1 week ago:
Its all about the angles. You want the stream to hit parallel to the surface not perpendicular.
- Comment on Is there an optimal angle when using a urinal? 1 week ago:
Definitely pull it way back and then slightly forward to get a good uniform flow, especially if you were up to shenanigans the morning/night before so you don’t pee sideways.

Democrats proving yet again why they’re no better than Republicans and are completely unfit to govern.

Because the entire house of cards is built upon these lies and fake public personas. With Trump for example, think about how many millions of people support him despite him being a complete stranger to them. This support exists because of what they feel when they think of Trump and these lies are designed to make them feel that way. The same is true for all politicians.

Yeah we can do the obvious and look back at a 10,000 years of human history where dogs were always kept in climate controlled homes for their protection.

If it is reddit repost we are engaging with the void.
This is my biggest complaint witn it. I subbed to some of these communities when I first joined lemmy but quickly realized that there was no point in reading these discussions because I couldn’t participate on the reddit side and nobody was commenting on the lemmy side, so why even bother?
- Comment on Traffic cameras have caught a white RAM 1500 pickup truck driving above the speed limit or running red lights more than 547 times since 2022. It belongs to an NYPD cop. 4 weeks ago:
Perfect example of policing in America. Their primary mission as a force is to protect themselves at all costs just like any other gang or criminal organization.
- Comment on For people who distrust police / the legal system: If you ran a small bussiness and need to hire people, and someone has a conviction but they claim innocence, do you hire them? 5 weeks ago:
Meh, I don’t have much more faith in juries as the trials I’ve seen are more performance acts than accounting of events. Think about how salespeople can convince so many people to buy X product even if it’s total garbage and now imagine that sales person becomes a prosecutor.
One famous example of this showmanship was the prosecutor from Making a Murderer who convinced two separate juries to convict two separate people of a single murder claiming two completely different sets of facts in each trial. That woman definitely wasn’t murdered twice but she would have had to have been based on his arguments.
I’ve also witnessed this personally with a cop lying on the stand, the prosecutor misrepresenting things, and ‘expert witnesses’ telling the jury whatever the prosecution paid them to say and they typically eat this shit up. How much effort do you expect them to put in when they’re pulled from their life to sit in some uncomfortable room listening to terrible stuff for $12 a day? Most people default to whatever the authority figure tells them to do/think.

- Comment on Is there a chance America one day will elect a Progressive? Or will we keep going the elder dipshit route? 1 month ago:
Won’t happen until both the Republican and Democratic parties are dead and buried. As we’ve seen over the last decade, they’re more than happy to work together if it means keeping progressives out of office.
- Comment on why does almost nobody live here? 1 month ago:
Nah the PNW coast includes Canada too
- Comment on why does almost nobody live here? 1 month ago:
It really is shitty out there most of the year. Even in summer it can be 95 degrees in the valley and raining on the coast. Most of the people living out on the coast are natives, retirees, and Trump supporters as there isnt much work outside of casinos, gas station/fast food, and logging.
- Comment on Don't poor people split the bills on dates? 1 month ago:
Yeah i question OPs definition of rich people because it sounds eerily similar to incel “Chad/Stacy alpha/beta wouldn’t date…”
The truly wealthy 0.1% probably wouldn’t care who pays the bill because it’s less than pocket change to them. The rest might split it or splurge and pay for their date depending on how far into the relationship they are.
- Comment on Is a video streaming co-op a useful idea? 1 month ago:
A: In the US at least, it’s illegal to stream movies you don’t own or don’t have the license to stream. By participating in the co-op, when you stream a movie, ownership of that physical media and the digital copy is temporarily transferred to you.
Is it illegal to stream or is it just illegal to upload files?
Also how does ownership transfer to the user and how are they streaming physical, DRM-protected media? I would think it was the distribution company who determines who gets licenses not a coop that just happens to own a copy of the movie.
I’m not sure I see the difference between this and you just giving your friends and family access to your Plex/Jellyfin server. It seems like the same thing but with more self-imposed hoops to jump through that don’t really change the legality of anything, but IANAL.

I don’t know why, but I find the “DrinkCocaCola@programming.dev” username to be one of the funniest parts.
It’d be hilarious to spin this off with instance tailored versions like a DrinkCocaCola@hexbear.net that comes in with death threats toward Pepsi drinkers followed by brigading from DrinkDietCoke and DrinkSprite who post nonsensical memes in support.
