All energy drinks including Monster taste awful.
I know every generation says it about the next but gen Z is just fucking weak. Some great people and an admittedly, dealt a shitty hand.
But.
I’m going back to school as an elder millennial and my God, some of the craziness I’ve heard. A buddy teaches a film theory course a lot of kids use to satisfy early arts requirements at universities and he quickly realized if he didn’t show the movie in class, 2/3 of the class wouldn’t watch it despite being available through the school website. So, essentially, these kids (or their parents) are paying hundreds of dollars to watch movies instead of engaging.
The degree for which I’m going back recommends only 4 courses a tern with no work.I knew engineers who rocked 6 or 7, worked and were party animals.
Every advisor with whom I’ve spoke has basically said “look, if you’re going to treat it as an adult with adult work habits, you can handle 5 courses without trouble.” But they have all these disclaimers because kids and their parents go nuts when Johnny, who was just streaming hockey highlights all class somehow didn’t get a good grade.
The fediverse and lemmy in particular is a series of echo chambers.
lemmy.world in particular has a very homogeneous user base.
The “unpopular” part of this opinion is that on a variety of topics, any opinions which do not conform are heavily downvoted.
Even when trying to clarify someone else’s point.
Driving a motorcycle doesn’t make you special and you should have to follow the same rules that cars follow.
It does make them special in one very important way: it’s much harder for police to catch them.
Mayonnaise is an abomination
But have you tried getting the right kind of mayonnaise from the right kind of grocery store from the right kind of major metropolitan area? Honestly, your opinion is just worthless until I know you’ve tried the right kind of mayonnaise.
Miracle Whip is where it’s at.
Tea is better than coffee, fight me
How do you like your tea? And which tea?
I’ve been doing a deep dive into pu’er lately but Genmaicha is my favorite. All neat.
Tobacco use is a character flaw.
Nolan’s The Odyssey was shit.
The universe (or at least Earth) is an factory of suffering and would be better off deleted.
You should look up, “Prison Planet Theory.”
There’s a sweet spot. Unpopular opinions that get upvoted need to be trivial enough to not make anybody uncomfortable or angry.
Something like “Toilet paper orientation doesn’t matter” is far more likely to be upvoted by somebody who disagrees with it than “Everything bad that happens to your children is your fault because you knew it was a possibility and had them anyway”.
How real are we getting?
There is such a thing as rational suicide.
The Þ dude is alright and Lemmy users have an irrational hatred for slightly-special characters. I wonder how many people are using automation to downvote every comment that contains a Þ, it’s way too consistent accross instances and communities to be organic.
I respect their goals, but I am a moron and reading their comments physically hurts me
Lemmy users have an irrational hatred for slightly-special characters.
Which makes complete sense, as most lemmy users are slightly special characters who hate themselves
It’s true. I’m only here because I’m a loser with sporadic social skills and a tendency to think much better of my ‘average at best’ intellect. I’m like a John Smith here.
I supported him when he said it was to poison AI. Then someone proved to him in a thread it did nothing to poison AI. He didn’t reply and then showed up a few days later still doing it.
I don’t believe Þat it does anything against AI, eiÞer. I am pro “bring thorn and/or eth back to the English language”, Þough, and eiÞer way it’s just not a big enough issue to justify the massive and consistent downvotes he’s getting.
I started squinting real hard at the tesseract dev (before the controversy) when I saw a tesseract patch note that said something about getting rid of Þ (in some form, idr exactly, just that there was no mention of an option to turn it off). I think it’s nice to have a few instantly-recognizable posters in the community, esp. when what they’re doing is harmless.
I think it’s annoying but I just don’t read their comments and move on. Same with people who use baby talk or overly refer to themselves in third person. It’s not for me and I know I’m not gonna enjoy reading it, but yeah they’re harmless.
That’s certainly in character. Icelandic users be like “Fuck me, right!?”
Sxan! I love his whimsie and really don’t understand the flak they catch. He’s a nice departure from the hate/doom feed. I have to actually intentionally read individual words. It’s like unexpected brain cardio.
What does @Sxan@piefed.zip have to do with this thread? Are you thinking they post an outsized number of posts on unpopular opinion communities or something?
I’m not sure I remember running across any of their posts more than a couple of times, but their post history doesn’t seem to intersect with unpopular opinion communities very much. (At least not as far back as I’ve scrolled.)
Or maybe you’re talking about someone else or I’m just not following.
Most of their comments are in the negatives (usually only the ones that contain a thorn). This indicates that hating his thorn comments is popular.
I think they are saying that the popular opinion on lemmy is to not like sxan. But they do like sxan. So their positive opinion of them is unpopular.
One thing that my brain is bothered by for whatever reason is that he uses the same character for both voiced and unvoiced forms of “th”. That may very well be the proper usage, but for some reason my brain doesn’t like it! Dunno why!
I feel like deep down we all know this:
The Devil’s fiddle solo in “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” was actually better than Johnny’s.
It’s clear in the Primus cover.
Oh somehow the existence of this has escaped me up to now. That was incredible.
I mean he absolutely cheated by having a band to assist. Of course it was going to sound better. Thankfully, he realized it wasn’t as good without the band included.
I’m pretty sure that CDB meant for the Devil’s solo to sound discordant and unmemorable. What I hear though sounds aggressive, passionate, and daring compared to Johnny’s “safe” catchy, melodic solo. Also they gave Johnny a call-and-response with vocalists so I’m not gonna hold the Devil’s backup band against him. Johnny was probably meant to be mocking the Devil by playing the same walkdown at the end, or maybe he just copied it. Either way the Devil gave up that contest way to easily.
Professional Wrestling is stupid but the wrestlers are Oscar level performers. When the stunt category at the Academy Awards matures, watch pro wrestlers repeatedly win.
The technicality, the over-dramatization, and the hilarity are off the charts.
I used to love it in the late 90s.
Better than football (or soccer) where everything is fake but you need to fake the fact that you know it
Whatever just say what you think and eat a couple downvotes every once in a while.
You know de wey.
You don’t even get that many downvotes before it stops being visible here. I once got something -1,000 on spez’s shitty site.
Then go in another thread and get like a dozen upvotes and you’re chillin
Creating ANY kind of smoke should be banned in public. By public I don’t mean just bus stops and trains and shit. Literally anywhere but maybe your house. And smoking indoors is even more disgusting. Smoking in your garden? Is there anyone living within ~20 feet? Forbidden. Smoke machines on concerts may have an exemption.
I also fucking had enough of people making fires every fucking time the weather gets too hot for me to keep my windows closed. Then my bedroom smells like the great fire of London and good luck having a good night’s sleep like that.
Does this include bbq and smokers?
Well, this is an unpopular opinion discussion. It does.
I knew BBQ would be a touchy one, especially among US users. I think it should be possible to have them, but preferably at places that can organise them in parks, or something.
And internal combustion engines?
Apple users are technically inept morons Men who drive giant pickup trucks are deeply insecure People who want to live in HOAs are freedom-hating bootlickers The only people who should be allowed to own trucks are laborers Instragram users are all brain-dead Privacy is important People who do not learn how to fix or take care of the stuff in their lives are worthless Men who watch sports, but do not nor have not ever played them are fat useless pathetic turds Dogs that bite should all be euthanized, no second chances Adults that buy and play with Legos suffer from arrested development and should do something useful with their lives Your pedal bike is a stupid overpriced piece of junk, especially if it cost more than $400 If you wear sweats, crocs, pajamas or anything like that out in public you are a retard, go home and put on some pants
That ought to cover most things.
You got like 50% fairly popular opinions in there, and then some hopefully deeply unpopular ones, lol.
Would you mind elaborating on the last point? Why is wearing crocs or pyjamas in public a bad thing?
Because they’re the fashion police. ACAB.
My unpopular opinion is that /c/unpopularopinion is fine the way it is.
My unpopular opinion is that /c/unpopularopinion is a garbage topic for a community, and it amplifies bad takes because even if people refute it in the comments a lot of people just read titles of posts and never look into the comments
Post that over there and see if the universe ceases to exist.
I love my car and it’s way better and more convenient than even the best public transportation. Most of the people who hate cars can’t even drive one or are too broke to own one. Yes, let the anger flow.
You had me in the first half, but if I didn’t have to drive I wouldn’t. Id watch cartoons for my commute.
I don’t like Hawaiian pizza
I respect your opinion regardless of how awful it is.
I do. I used to hate on it before I tried it but after a friend dated me to order one, I did and enjoyed it ever since.
a friend dated me to order one
Probably didn’t have to go that far to convince you, but hey, if it works it works 🤷🏻
I like the thick “rib” of leafy greens.
Wait, some people don’t like it?
It’s too bitter for me to enjoy. Unless it’s been made into kimchi. Then it’s my favorite part.
As a minority, white people as a whole should never be trusted.
it ain’t capitalism, it’s cultural entropy.
Super unpopular around these parts, i’m sure
I thought it would be understood that I meant it ain’t capitalism’s fault…
The Kinks are better than The Beatles
This is true but mostly because the Beatles are absolute dogshit.
And they definitely didn’t invent metal with their song “helter skelter”.
The biggest road block getting in the way of bike activism and expanded safety and spread of non-car transportation is the bike activists themselves behaving inconsistently and demanding strange, contradictory rulesets and concessions.
That “modern” architectural style where you get houses that often have flat roofs, blocky structures, large glass walls and the rest usually white plaster or unpainted wood (idk the name but I think most people have seen it and I see people hating on it more often than not. I dont mean brutalism since what im talking about doesn’t usually have unpainted concrete everywhere but it looks maybe related) looks pretty good actually. Not every example sure, but in general I find the aesthetic pleasantly futuristic looking.
Scalping only works because that’s already the market rate, if the venue charged that price to begin with then scalping wouldn’t work.
🤔👉😃🚫😈🟰🤣👍

Naloxone saves some decent people but on the whole its existence increases human suffering and is bad for society as a whole.
