My favourite trick is to take on as much work as possible, and make myself completely pivotal to the entire operation. Then get a new job without mentioning it.
Last job I actually got fired as part of some union-politic antics. I was laughing as I got escorted out the building. I was responsible for about 60% of the entire workload of my team of 8 people.

Probably. The dev has already made the sale. The usual argument from pirates that will never be settled “I was never going to buy it anyway so they lost no money”. But this way they’ve already made the sale. No harm no foul. With the receipts to back it up.
