Since you mention cars and trucks separately, it seems that you don’t realize that trucks handle last-mile delivery of groceries in cities, after the goods are offloaded from trains (in normal countries). And that any decent-sized city would fall apart in a week tops without constant supply of groceries.

I agree! Truck size are a reason lanes are so wide that enormous big vehicles like SUV are popular and even comfortable to use. Subcompact cars should be called a car. Two-seat cars should be called a compact car. And one-seat should be more popular and called Subcompact. B segment sedans should be called family car. SUV should be banned. You got the idea.
But, as others pointed out, I don’t understand how busses as public transport should work. How grocery logistic should work. How firetrucks should work. In imaginary city I described. This is dilemma for me.

In the best case it’s an opinion that is rather popular, but not said enough, because it wasn’t verbalized, like shower thoughts, but I’m an antagonistic manner. Most of times it’s kicking against ‘common things to hate on’ like pineapple pizza.
But que often it’s getting a bit edgy as people explore the boundaries of what is really bad taste.
But suffice it to say that it’s not my cup of tea and people aren’t bad if they don’t agree with me.

Kids suck. I don’t like them. Glad if you do, please enjoy. But they slobber, shed, smell and are generally mostly a nuisance. They can be fun for brief periods, but they’re way more work and hassle than they’re worth. My brother is thinking of getting a kid and I hope he doesn’t because it would make me reluctant to spend a weekend at his place. I can’t believe the number of people who seriously admit to loving their kids more than their dogs. I can’t believe people consider themselves their kid’s “parent”. I can’t believe how forcefully the online community backlashes to the idea of dogs or judgemental of “ill-mannered” and neurodiverse dogs, yet will happily say “it is never a kid’s” fault, no matter how “bad” the kid is.
Thank you for your attention. Future Lemmings will look back at my comment history from unrelated threads and judge me for this, even though I’ve posted in the context of the current thread.

I do find it interesting how some people (like you) can be repulsed by kids, while others (like me) don’t mind them at all. I despise large gatherings of people and loud places, but groups of kids are completely fine to me somehow. Human brains are weird.
Also, I like the implication that dogs do not slobber, shed and smell.

I kinda hated kids till I had a few, now I like them. The majority of the kids Ive met (school friends of my kids) are some of the nicest, kindest people Ive ever known. People tend to get worse as they age, more jaded, cynical, mean, etc, so if you want to see human potential in its purest form, kids are your best bet.

I guess I find it odd that people who were kids hate kids. It’s ageism, lol. Children are literally people just like we are. Just younger. Which is not to say everyone needs to reproduce, live your life however you want of course.
My mom was never very motherly, I asked her about once. She said "I don’t like kids ".

Cyclists should do whatever they need to do to feel safe and all the car brained morons can STFU. Many bike lanes are poorly planned and are more dangerous than the road. You legally have to share the road with all legal road traffic and if that slows you down a few minutes then you need to suck it up and cope.

Many Lemmy users’ (understandable) hatred of AI seems to have stunted their abilities to keep up with AI advancements. Some of them even sound like they’re at least a year behind.
This is probably fine for most of them (sometimes I envy that, tbh), but some of them might be setting themselves to be blindsided.
BTW, for people who absolutely hate the idea of learning AI, but might have to: I get it. I did too. Maybe I can offer a weird perspective after being forced to cross over to the “dark side”…

This might not apply to most people, so I tucked it away here to take less space… Do you find it really satisfying to “dial in” something? Anything. Maybe dialing in your home espresso shots, calibrating a 3D printer you built or modded, setting up a guitar to get the action and intonation right, getting an old motorcycle’s carburetors in sync, iteratively tweaking a recipe to perfection – whatever might scratch that itch for you. If you’re way into that kind of thing (and maybe pretty tech-oriented), you might actually enjoy build AI agent “skills” (basically instruction files for specific tasks). On the first run of a skill, it might get some things wrong. But as you run it through each round of evaluations and improvements, it gets better and better. LLMs’ results are probabilistic, not deterministic. So to build something on AI that actually works well, it needs to be “dialed in”. It scratches that kind of itch, for me.

to be fair, even hacker news users still sometimes say AI generated text can be spotted by emdashes even though that hasn’t been true for a long time, and those folks trend far qualified to comment than most public social media. same with generating hands, but i really only see that one on places like reddit. it’s not contained to lemmy, is my point.

But yeah you’re right. The “luddites” (not meant in the derogatory way) exist among many demographics. I’ve actually noticed an interesting dichotomy with many very skilled engineers who I greatly respect: Some have embraced AI and leveraged it to build some VERY cool things, while others still think AI is incapable of anything because they haven’t figured out how to get decent results with it yet.
One of them even handed a somewhat complex task to Claude Haiku (the model that generates the title of the conversation based on the first prompt), then determined that AI is just trash 🤦🏻♂️. Claude Sonnet was able to get it done though.

Wow. That’s… really far behind. Anyone who is familiar with what those words mean, really should know that those are pretty basic features by now.
Man, their minds might be blown if they were to see Hermes’ Kanban feature in action. It’s basically AI running its own Kanban board with a team of agents. You throw a task into the “Triage” lane and a “decomposer” agent breaks it down into smaller Kanban tasks (including research/exploration if your triage prompt is vague), which automatically get picked up by whichever model the decomposer chose as the best fit for each task.

The US should have compulsory military service, once the Dem Socialists are in charge.

I enjoy cleaning the gross hair and gunk out from the shower drain, especially after I’ve moved into a new place. I am easily grossed out, so I find it stomach turning, but it feels so cathartic. The grossness is a part of that, I think. And then you have the immediate satisfaction of things draining much better.
I recently spent a year crashing in a friend’s spare room, and I found myself weirdly satisfied that, being a household of 3, the shower drain would need cleaning much more often than when I lived alone. The fact that it’s a gross chore that’s rarely thought about until it starts getting quite bad means that I liked being able to handle this chore. Who else would be weird enough to enjoy the task, even as they’re trying not to puke?

That “modern” architectural style where you get houses that often have flat roofs, blocky structures, large glass walls and the rest usually white plaster or unpainted wood (idk the name but I think most people have seen it and I see people hating on it more often than not. I dont mean brutalism since what im talking about doesn’t usually have unpainted concrete everywhere but it looks maybe related) looks pretty good actually. Hydration. Until 30 years ago, humans had no problem hydrating themselves when water was available. Note available. It’s called being thirsty. All of a sudden, you must hydrate, you must hydrate. Somehow, all the executives at all the big drink companies got together and said let’s just use the word hydration and hope for potluck on which product of ours they buy. The "invisible hand of the market’ claimed by economists is actually the very visible hand of Wall Street, the Federal Reserve and other central banks around the world actively selecting which types of wealth have value.

Insider trading was rampant - I knew PeopleSoft was going to split three months before it did. Thirty years ago it turned my stomach to realize that every element of how we value wealth in this world is defined by drunken ex-frat boys hopped up on coke and Jack Daniels, breaking every rule meant to contain them and laughing when they had to pay the fine.

The “running man” hypothesis – the idea that our ancestors a million or two years ago were casually jogging after prey animals until they dropped from exhaustion due to our supposedly superior endurance – is utter nonsense. It’s absurd on its face and there is absolutely no evidence of any kind supporting it, yet it has become generally accepted as an incontrovertible fact about our past.
The man who initially proposed this idea in the 1960s (Grover Krantz) has become utterly forgotten and is never referenced by the idea’s modern proponents, and for good reason: he was better-known as a staunch believer in the existence of Bigfoot.

Dude… masking is important… A lot of neurodivergent, or even NT self soothing behaviour are really aggravating to be around, especially repetitive noisemaking… Most ND kids can not tolerate being around repetitive noisemaking, but also use it to self sooth. That combination is a recipe for disaster.
If it weren’t for SOME masking, many kids would just have to be isolated 99% of the time.
Masking is part of what we all do to get along, it’s just that for NDs it can be excessively demanding, or particularly risky…
That being said, I hope you find more people you can at least RELAX the masking a bit around…
