She’s probably mad AI can take a shitty photo I took myself with my phone and make it look professional and I no longer need her
I wouldn’t mind paying someone like her if it was reasonable. It’s not reasonable, so I don’t hire her. I still need photos though. AI can do it for free? OK.
- Comment on Flat earthers 2 days ago:
According to flat earth supporters, if the earth were moving in any way at all you would feel it. Since we don’t feel any motion obviously the earth is stationary
- Comment on Flat earthers 3 days ago:
I’m part of some flat earth debate groups because I like physics… they’re real
Mostly it’s a religious thing. These people you have to just ignore because you can take them to space and push them out into the void of space with no helmet so they could see the round spinning earth with their own eyes and the last thought that would go through their brain before they froze in the vacuum of space would be, “the devil has taken control of my vision”
I’d guess the 2nd most popular group of flat-earth supporters are just weird-o conspiracy people. The government lies about everything and since NASA is a government agency it too must be lying.
Then you got the people who are dumb and know they’re dumb but after a lifetime of being called dumb have convinced themselves that they’re actually the smartest person in the room and the only reason everyone thinks they’re dumb is because everyone else is too dumb to understand their genius. These people think they know everything about physics but the shit they say just showcases their complete inability to understand even the most simple concepts
And then you just have people who just don’t know any better. Like maybe it’ll be a guy who’s profile picture is him with some goats in a small village in Africa. He’s well meaning but he knows nothing about relativity or gravity because he never really went to school and the education he did get was just from some other person in his village doing their best. You don’t really need to understand relativity to survive in the deserts of Africa and so it’s not well understood out there. This man walks 50 miles a day and has never seen a mountain in his entire life. All he’s ever known is flat lands and dirt. Then one day he travels to a near-by village with electricity and gets on the internet only to see a bunch of crazy white people talking about how water sticks to a spinning dirt ball in space and he laughs. Silly city-people, they don’t know shit.

That’s why I think they’re all 15. They literally have zero idea of what AI is actually doing in the world and when I tried to explain it to them they told me I was lying
I have a kid so I’ve seen the Shorts on YouTube and a lot of them are “AI Slop”. It’s bad… like, real bad. If this is all I knew of AI, I’d think anyone who sees it as a useful tool is an idiot too
The biggest offenders are the videos that start with a wild concept. Like, “this woman dyed her hair using 13 gallons of pink hair dye! You’ll never believe how it turned out!”
But then the video is interrupted by AI Jesus or AI cats or something and the cats or Jesus beg you to like the video but also also if you love your mom you should subscribe and also if you love Jesus and your Mom (or you don’t want this cat to starve to death in the street and you love your mom), leave a comment telling Jesus or the Cat that you love them so they’ll know you care
And then it finally goes back to the woman who dyed or hair or whatever, but it’s barely a second long, and it’s just like, “her hair was pink” and the video ends.
So 99% of the video is badly animated AI Jesus with a bad AI voice begging you to like the video or else you’ll go to hell and the remaining 1% is, “this woman dyed her hair with 13 gallons of pink hair dye. You’ll never believe how it turned out! Her hair was pink”.
The ones I really hate though is when somebody takes an existing short (maybe of somebody cleaning a dirty rug) and they have AI write a song about it and they play the AI song on top of a video someone else made
The songs are always awful and they always end the same way, “but they were sad because they didn’t get any likes”
It’s bad… and so if I were a tween who spent my lunch break watching TikTock and this is what I saw, this is what I knew of AI, of course I’d hate it. How could anyone defend that trash? That’s what we’re sucking up all the water for? But they also think it’s a trend. That eventually these videos will stop getting likes and when that happens people will stop making them and AI will go away
It won’t though, AI is here to stay

I think most of them are 15 year old kids whos experience with AI is what they see on TikTock
Bad AI videos, bad AI voices, bad AI art and music
What they don’t know or understand is that this is the side effect of AI, not the driving force or even it’s primary use
In reality AI has infiltrated most businesses and is very quickly, if not already, an integral part of daily business routines
I got banned from a sub for being a shill because the mods did not believe me when I told them we use AI to transcribe our morning meetings, make tasks on our kanban board, review code, run tests, and manager our build pipelines
I was told, “AI can’t do any of that” – huh?

Get out there, do something new, see what you learn
Really long term, Earth is doomed. Not Climate Change, the sun will literally die one day. If humanity is to survive, we need to leave Earth and eventually our solar system
Waiting until the sun is expanding to start working on this problem is a lot like the issues we have with climate change. “Not my problem” type of attitude.
In your defense, the time length between climate change and the death of the sun is beyond massive, but still, it’s the same kind of thinking. You don’t need to leave Earth today and while people in the future probably will for any number of reasons, so what, let them figure it out, right?
We’re humans, this is what we do… we explore. Lets go

Lets say music literally kills the art of playing music instruments. It won’t, but lets pretend it does
So?
Really think about that. Music isn’t gone, people just don’t play instruments to make it anymore
OK, and?

my experience is that lemmy users are actually worse than reddit users, but there are less people here so you don’t have to put up with as much stupid shit
I think the average reddit users is like 30, where the average lemmy user seems to be 15
That being said, I can stand to come here once every couple of days and browse for 15 minute
I rarely see anybody say anything of any intelligence while I’m here as it’s just more of the same doomer bullshit I’d find everywhere else, but it’s like 6 people saying it here instead of 1,000 saying it there

I’m not rioting for bread, I’m rioting to tear down a broken system
If I want bread, I’ll just steal it. I don’t have to burn down Target to steal bread now, why would that change?
I do need to remind the people in charge who they work for though… and if they’re not willing to share what they have, then I’ll take it from THEM. If they’re not willing to get rid of their shit to save the environment then I’ll get rid of it for THEM
I don’t want to steal a TV from Target, I want to steal the TVs from the CEO who decided bread costs $7
- Comment on When do we riot? 2 weeks ago:
I tell people all of the time
“I won’t throw the first brick, but when the bricks start flying give me a call”
The thing that broke me wasn’t data centers or hot weather, it was when I had to pay $7 for hot dog buns
The business men who put a $7 price tag on hot dogs during the 4th of July are not nearly as afraid of the public as they should be.
It’s fucking bread. Bread!
When stealing bread to feed your family is almost a felony… burn it down.

You don’t have to but we don’t have time to get to know every single person in the world on a personal level, and the way someone looks can tell you a lot about them
I always heard it as, “you wear a hat to be associated with other people that wear that same hat”.
You put on a cowboy hat so that people assume you like big trucks and country music.
You’re free to walk around looking like human trash but then also you shouldn’t be surprised when people assume you are human trash. Remember, you don’t always just represent yourself. You represent other people in your social group. Like if you’re a teenager you represent teenagers.
The assumption is that all the nerds that play cards at comic book stores are fat, dirty, and stinky because enough of nerds that paly cards at comic book stores showed up fat, dirty and stinky that this became the stereotype.
Had they all shown up in suits we’d probably have a different opinion of them. It doesn’t matter if they’re nice people, we have no idea, we didn’t get the opportunity to talk to them… all we know is that they look mega-gross so we assume they’re all mega-gross. And now, you admit that you like playing cards at comic book stores, we’ll all assume you’re mega gross too
So, it really would have been helpful if enough of them had cared what others thought to clean up a bit so they didn’t destroy the reputation of all the other people who wear that same hat

Depends, I would say it’s a show of respect
I’m aware other people are around and I’m going to present myself in a way that is un-offensive to those people. And not just other customers, but the staff as well
Does it matter at McDonalds? no, McDonalds is a pretty casual place where you would expect people to show in casual attire; be that pajamas because they’ve been being lazy all day, suits because they’re at lunch during work, or dirty clothes because they’ve been doing manual labor… whatever
But showing up to a nicer place in casual clothes basically says to everyone, “I have about as much respect for this place as I do Wal-Mart or McDonalds”; it can also say, “I don’t have much respect for myself” too. As in, “I’m too lazy to even put on clothes so I just walk around in my cookie monster pajamas”.

so let me get this straight, you called AI worthless because it didn’t do anything new and just a tool for idiots to use, then you spent a week dishing out homophobic insults towards me, I got banned for being a shill, then you followed me here, picked right up where you left off, dished out more homophonic insults, and then finally admitted that LLMS have actually been around for years and do have use.
When asked about the insults you decided to justify your embarrassing homophobic behavior by pretending that this is just how you talk to people when you’re calm and collected?
That’s actually seems much, much worse to me.
“I’m not mad, I’m always a hateful jerk”
It would have been better to say, “yeah, I’m sorry man, I was having a rough week, my emotions got the better of me.” But I guess just straight up admitting that you’re a full-time homophobic bully works too I guess

AI is what we call LLMs, don’t be willfully ignorant, you know that. When people say they are going to “Goggle it” that doesn’t mean that they have to use Google. Some people refer to all soda drinks as “Coke”. Saying “AI” instead of “LLM” is fine. LLMs are a subset of AI anyway. But more importantly, semantics don’t matter, you’re just desperately trying to distract from the fact that you said it a useless tool that doesn’t do anything new for idiots
I’ve never once advocating for for anything. I just said that you were free to hate it but it’s not going to go away and people are going to look back on these, “AI is dumb” posts the same way we look back on newspaper clippings of people saying the internet was a fad
I’m not even mad, you seem to be fuming though
- Comment on "influencers" are setting us back 1 month ago:
I just showed you that it’s popularity is increasing. It’s now in 88% of businesses. It’s not the Virtual Boy, it’s the Nokia or the iPhone
MP3 players didn’t go away, they just became a part of your phone. Handheld gaming didn’t go away, it’s one of the best selling consoles on the market. We went from VHS to Tivo to high-def streaming on demand; nobody just gave up having the ability to record movies and tv shows and then watch them at will
Yeah, cell phones existed but they were bulky, expensive, not very user friendly… then something happened and suddenly they were accessible to everyone and everyone jumped on it and never looked back. More and more people used them, the technology became a part of daily life, and it only got better over time; that’s AI
You think we’re all just going to stop using AI any day now just like we did with The Virtual Boy, The Zune, and Betmax. That’s not fucking happening. Those things were never even popular to begin with. AI is fucking everywhere and nobody is going to just wake up one day and stop using it. Yeah, the technology behind it will probably change a bit, get faster, get better… but what we refer to as AI, is here to stay
So yeah, you can hate it all you want but your anti-AI shit is going to look stupid as fuck in 20 years. Like the internet, it’s not a fad. And just how we laugh at people who claimed the internet was dumb, had no use, and would die off… that’s how we’ll laugh at people like you who think AI is, “entirely pointless” because it, “doesn’t do anything new”
lol

You told me it was the Virtual Boy, a failed product that didn’t even last a year
Suddenly it’s all, “It’s been around even longer than you say” and “there are reasonable use cases for LLMS”
Yeah, sucks to be a moron doesn’t it?
Bet you won’t make that stupid fucking claim ever again
As far as your gameboy analogy goes, handheld gaming definitly didn’t go away. It wasn’t a fad, and it’s still here… compare the game boy to your fucking phone and realize what a dipshit you still are

Yeah, sucks when you dig yourself this deep into a hole isn’t it? Feel dumb yet? Consider it a life lesson
Deep Learning has been around 14 years. LLMs 6. AI Agents 4.
88% of businesses use it. State Governments are striking deals with AI companies to implement it into their systems.
And the people who have been the earliest adaptors of this technology, the people who know the most about it because they’ve been dealing with it the longest? IT and Tech.
But yeah, I’m not even a software engineer right? What would I know?
Except literally all of that and it’s exactly what I told you… but nah, clearly you know it’s the next Virtual Boy and it’s going to die off any second now
lol

Shill - a deceptive accomplice who poses as an enthusiastic, impartial customer to trick others into buying a product or participating in a scheme. Today, the term is also used more broadly (often as a verb, to shill) to describe anyone who promotes something for pay without disclosing their financial ties.
So how am I getting paid to promote AI if I’m not in the industry?

This is what I’m talking about…
Deep Learning had a major breakthrough around 2012 with ImageNet. What we know today is already 14 years old. It wasn’t as good as it is today, or as accessible 14 years ago, but it was around. And people really think the world is just going to decide to forget we invented it any day now
