True, not a shitpost
Isn’t it funny how conservatives love pointing out that the KKK was founded by Democrats, basically acknowledging that Klansmen are bad people, while ignoring that they now vote in lockstep with Republicans?
What’s even funnier is the Southern Poverty Law Center actually funded the Klan. Until they got caught (literally) in bed with them just a short time ago…
Not only weekend. With the left comes the freedom to be, freedom to think, cultural freedom, equal rights, solidarity, fraternity, scientific advancement, laws without prejudice, without religious impositions, respect for the self, without the battle for survival of neoliberalism.
Left wing rage gave us the bloody USSR, gulags, and lets not forget when the RAF kidnapped and killed politicians, and hijacked a plain trying to get their leaders out of jail.
The USSR were authoritarians cloaking themselves with leftist words, the non-authoritarians refer to them as red-fash or tankies, and we don’t consider them to be actually left, just power trippers who want to rule with an iron fist.
Politics is mostly just tribalism. Radicalization is just having more loyalty to a tribe that wants to destroy the status quo. Whether far left or far right, people in these tribes are more likely to show a blind devotion to the leaders of those tribes. When the leaders of either the far left or far right gain power, the abuse of power will be similar.
Historical problems that stemmed from far right and far left movements in the past are something people pushing these things need to address. The far right goes for “accusing others of that which you’re guilty” which is typical of them. The far left sometimes uses this tactic, but tends to make rationalizations. Tankies go for “didn’t happen, Stalin was great, nananana I can’t hear you!” Non-tankies go for “that stuff that happened in all the other countries won’t happen if we did it here, they started as agrarian socialism and therefore there was no issues in the power dynamics involved with giving all of the power to a small group of people.”
But in the end all radical movements are just variations of “give me all of the power I’ll make you stronger/equal, you can totally trust me!”
gulags pre-date the ussr.
ussr was actually the one that eventually abolished them in 1960
Holy shit lemmy have you learned nothing, stop feeding the troll. He’s only here to spread his gospel
This isn’t a shit post, why are you sharing it here?
You know the Klan was brought to be by southern democrats? AKA not the right or Republicans.
Back then, the Democrats were right wing.
More right wing than they are now, I mean.
Lol. If you are not trolling, you do realise that many Republicans say “Democrats betrayed them” for pursuing progressive policies? Ronald Reagan said the he didn’t abandon the Democrats, the Democrats abandoned him. Trump himself was a Democrat until he echoed the same sentiment as Ronald Reagan.
And? Our party didnt change, if those two can to the fold we welcome them. Who failed here? Sounds like the otherside drove them to us. Next will be Fetterman, I like him.
Fuck off, you disingenuous cunt
The only thing more pathetic than your comment is how often your mother fakes being stung by a jellyfish to get me to piss on her
Wut? cant argue a point goes after my mother. Great job
Not republicans, but definitely the right.
Yes we were he right or the correct thinking people in the US at that time
The real shit post is in the comments
Read just a little bit more about pubs and dems that far back
I have, they never switched it bullshit projecting revisionist from the demoncrats
your mistake is treating two right wing parties as if either of them is representative of the left, or like the UMWA, USW, UAW, and IWW that brought us weekends were strictly represented in the 1920s and 30s by the democrats or republicans. 10,000 miners don’t march up a mountain with rifles in hand because their needs are represented on a ballot. They got their weekends by demonstrating that could shut down industry if they weren’t listened to. and do you know what all those unions have in common? you have to denounce the Klan to join.
so get the fuck out of the bullshit left vs right fake binary your high school civics teacher taught you and go learn some real labor history
This has nothing to do what I was saying. At no point did I bring up labor laws or unions. So you can kindly get the fuck out as you bring nothing to the table of this discussion.
This isn’t the gotcha you think it is.
Okay, you’re just a tireaome troll, got it.
Republicans couldn’t be voted for because Lincoln freed the slaves, until the Democrats passed the civil rights act.
If I am remembering correctly, getting the weekend off was primarily pushed for by progressive Christian organizations (They needed a dedicated day to go to church, along with a work-free day for the sabbath) of course, this happened prior to the heavy conservative swing that defined most religious politics of the latter half of the 20th century. Depending on your views of the church, it’s either surprising that they were the dominant progressive force of the first half of the 20th century, or surprising that they stopped being the dominant progressive force.
Anyone who thinks religious groups cannot be leftists, is dumb. Especially in underdeveloped countries.
I dunno I’m not a big fan of Blinding Lights
@The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world hey mate half your mods of this sub are inactive, is it worth lightning the load and getting someone who can keep politics out of this place?
Where does it say in the phrase “anything and everything goes” that that doesn’t include politics?
If you’re so unhappy with politics being posted here, as you seem to be by the regular complaints, then set up your own shitposting community without politics allowed.
nah id rather annoy you americans tbh
I personally tire of the politics too, but there isn’t a “no politics” rule in lemmyshitpost, so it’s fair game. People have brought it up before, but it seems like the wider community prefers the less restrictive posting rules.
can at least memes be politics free?

The Weekend is OK I guess, but Blinding Lights isn’t that great. Better than the KKK sure but I’m more of a Slayer type of guy

Look, I wasn’t super into The Weeknd but Dawn FM is pretty dope all the way through. Basically the story of a dude’s life flashing before his eyes while waiting to die.

That’s The Weeknd
