Then don’t take the role. Don’t participate in Harry Potter (Joanna’s Version). Don’t feed the machine
- Comment on Why are expressions like "women artists" or "women writers" used? 1 week ago:
woman/women/men/man are both adjectives and nouns. english is fucked because it’s a bunch of different grammars that all jumped another language in alley and then made a new language by wearing that language as a skinsuit, and then conquered most of the world.
we don’t refer to “men artists” or “men writers” because the hegemonic standard within our society is the masculine perspective. so we sometimes have to draw attention to “this artist is showing you a woman’s perspective” to draw attention to that the arts and culture that you see by default show an incomplete view of the world. i look forward to the day the feminine perspective is common enough that we either just call everyone artists or have to start differentiating perspectives to ensure we fully understand the ramifications of what we’re seeing

it’s become the default on mac, windows, and gnome, much to my dismay. i even had to install a gnome plugin to get sanity back

that reminds me of how there was MensLib which was genuinely about advancing a better understanding of what feminism means for men, and the ways an egalitarian society rather than a patriarchy would be better for men, and then there was MensLiberation which was a Men’s Rights Activists (manosphere) subreddit.*
*editor’s note: i may have these backwards

r/bald is an example of male centered body positivity. does it tend to be a little bit toxically positive? occasionally. however, the broad strokes are very healthy and deserve to be commended, especially as this is all ultimately a conversation about accepting what it means to perform masculinity in this day and age without bringing along a litany of toxically masculine traits. i genuinely appreciate what they’re doing and want to give them their roses as a male whose hair style is gender nonconforming. thank you, r/bald, for being kind, patient, and accepting of eachother

Farmer’s markets, co-ops, and mutual aid all exist as forms of resistance to capitalism purely by making sure your dollars go to people within your community rather than get captured by the modern company store through Wal-Mart or Target. At the same time though, they are also not everything. It’s a whole thing. Nothing anywhere is or can be perfect. The best we can do is the best we can do. I know that sounds like a thought terminating cliche but sometimes it’s important to set aside the things you can’t control and to focus on the things you can and have faith that the more people that do that the easier it will become to resist the horrors that surround us all

“there is no ethical consumption under capitalism” has to me always been a clear call to reduce your consumption within a capitalist system. yes, it is these shit heads who shackle us. but when we reduce our dependence on them we begin the breaking of our bonds to a system that kills thousands every year

it’s a mnemonic to help people remember, not pedantry
