Immigrants are not the problem. Greedy corporate oligarchs — and the politicians they own — are.

I agree with the sentiment but that’s really a disingenuous interpretation of these data…

While there was a hope for tanistry, we couldn’t get enough counties on board, we are now slipping into absolute-primogeniture.

Shame the people stupid enough to blame low wages on immigrants will never be seated by something as woke as facts and numbers.

Yeah all we need is to just inform them with charts and graphs! That’ll convince them!

Historically (and still today) ice/border patrol has been in cahoots with the farmers and businessmen to suppress/steal wages from immigrants.
Pulling lots of people from the local economy is going to depress said economy. So yes, ruthlessly yanking people will screw everyone. Especially the working class.

I wonder what this means. Why do the arrests affect it like that, since as an instant reaction you’d think less competition = better chance to force more pay. What did happen with employment in those sectors?

I was wondering the same thing. Price is supposed to be set at the equilibrium between supply and demand. Fewer immigrant workers should mean less supply of workers overall. If demand for workers stays the same, the price, or wage in this case, should go up. That must mean then that demand has gone down as well. Maybe businesses in construction and hospitality are hiring fewer people overall, for related or unrelated reasons.

There is another possibility: maybe the assumption that fewer immigrant workers would mean fewer workers overall was wrong. Maybe domestic workers are applying for jobs that would have otherwise been taken by immigrant workers, without asking for higher pay. There are plenty of American citizens who need a job, even if it is a relatively low paying one. Or, maybe increased immigration enforcement doesn’t necessarily mean a significant reduction in the availability of immigrant laborers. Maybe it’s a combination of factors.
