- Comment on F.B.I. Arrests C.I.A. Official With $40 Million in Gold Bars in His Home 2 days ago:
Based on the price of gold, the affidavit said, the estimated value of the gold exceeded $40 million. Investigators also seized nearly three dozen luxury watches, many of them Rolexes.
The court papers do not indicate why Mr. Rush appears to have kept so much gold, and $2 million in U.S. currency, in his home, or what work project would have required him to amass such wealth.
Greed hasn’t entered into their motive analysis?

That would be something. Rockstar of old would probably put in a scathing parody of the grifter in chief.
Somehow I don’t think they have that kind of balls, though.

The fun thing is that, at least in the Dutch spin-off, it’s also set in a tent, which is stationary.
So somehow the tent got baked into the format, whilst it’s original use was discarded.

Yeah like the influx of gold and silver from the Americas shook the European economy in the 17th century:

I’m curious what political agenda they are promoting.
And by ‘curious’ I mean quite convinced that the knobhead that pushed Brexit and is now fueling right wing hatred is getting a leg up from his buddy in the Kremlin
- Comment on What do you think being famous is actually like? 2 weeks ago:
I once had a brief recurring bit on local tv. The impact even from such minor celebrity is stunning. A father walking his kid in a stroller saying ‘we know him from tv, don’t we?’ and some random bloke telling his life story to me late in s bar because he felt he knew me
It’s really weird. Having that in a world wide scale must be both cool but also very uncanny
- Comment on David Attenborough is not just a national treasure: he is also the most radical person on TV 2 weeks ago:
He’s not radical at all. He’s very level headed and concerned about climate and people ontrolling the media generally kcik those people out because they oppose their agenda.
But they can’t so that with David. The UK would be in full on civil war if they did that.

I always was on the hand of Dennet, how believe in the possibility of strong AI and held that a machine that passed the Turing test must be conscious.
Modern LLM’s have shown that a computer can pass the Turing test, even without understanding or consciousness. In that way it’s fortunate that Dennet didn’t get to live through it’s insurgence. I would be curious to his take, though.
I loved the vitriol he had in his denial of Searle and the Chinese room argument, though.

I’m a big fan of Doctorov , but I’m this case I would like a citation.
I’m making interested to see how the gender of the ewes was determined. I mean if the indicator of sexual attraction is indistinguishable from normal behavior: standing still how could one prove the sheep to be lesbian?

A Friend of my spouse was in hospital and awaiting surgery (a stint or bypass it something) he was very bored and decided to rub one out on the toilet.
He was still connected to the heart monitor, though, so whilst he was at it the nurse came to the door and ask him if everything was ok. This ruined his immersion and thus could not finish so then he was bored and slightly blue balled
