Dude xFire was my jam.
I remember leaving xFire handles in my forum signatures with a random anime picture. Those were the days…

I know you’re getting downvoted for being whooshed but I wanted to say I appreciate the explanation on why this is horrible. This is way out of my areas of expertise lol.

Activision does that with all their games now.
It’s the reason I won’t buy a new COD game.

I remember the McDonalds Monopoly game where you collected episode 1 characters and every restaurant had a Jar Jar Binks cutout proudly on display (these all went away for episode 2 and 3 lol)

There’s a weird subset of people that got introduced to these films through the memes that didn’t watch the films without that. So when it’s not The Room level bad they think it’s okay. Not realizing these were major blockbusters at the time with insane marketing. Expectations are a bit different lol.
After watching the sequels I personally appreciate the attempt at telling a different story and if some of the motifs were fleshed out they could have been real cool (like the Jedi being more of the bad guys in the beginning). But they didn’t and the execution, for all of the reasons you mentioned, is atrocious.
And yeah the amount of racist caricatures in the films is absurd.

See. The entire point of the OG HailCorporate was that even if it wasn’t intentional astroturfing, posts and memes can end up being ads for large companies.
It was eventually co-opted to be intentional astroturfing (partially I think to make the community eat itself alive).
But my point is that even if you’re not specifically astroturfing this still unintentionally acts like an ad for Mug root beer and shows how far advertising reaches.

I feel that.
Even in my current job they’re pushing us to use chatbots and LLMs even when it doesn’t make sense. There’s a lot of people hoping for the mythical productivity boosts that snake oil salesmen are shoveling. Going to the point where they see a future where “you check in prompts to source control because LLMs will be so good at translating those”. Which is batshit but you gotta let c level people learn this the hard way and fire everyone else for their mistakes.

As a full time software engineer you’ll get a lot more out of learning how things work, even in the short term, if you properly learn the craft.
Otherwise when something deals you won’t have the tools to debug it. When the work LLMs are great but if things go haywire you wanna be able to stop and triage yourself.
- Comment on When you know your boss is an insane moron 1 week ago:
I’ve never had a manager complain about leaving a few minutes early.
It destroys more good will and motivation than the theoretical 40 hour a month. I say theoretical because the odds of anyone getting anything done in those 3 min are astronomically slim.
That employee is never going to stay later to help with anything if they don’t have the wiggle room to leave a few minutes early.

So people are idiots. Got it.
I dunno man working on a video game as a side hobby they’re the worst things I’d use for gen ai. There’s too many things from pathing to physics and collision that require human input to make work.
Anytime I’ve tried it’s given some absolute shit results.

- Comment on With all this talk about Ai not being profitable why aren't we using it in video games? I dont mean replacing developers I mean in NPCs in the game. I make them more realistic. 3 weeks ago:
I tried this as a side project and it’s such a pain in the ass to get the bots to actually behave like they’re in a world and not be overly eager losers.
You have to do so much prompting to get them to behave and, as others who have to work with these full time know, prompting can only go so far.
They’re not as autonomous and general usage as companies want to make you think they are.

Which is really funny as Games Workshop typically bleeds users dry on game expansions.
Glad they aren’t here though. I haven’t played SM2 but may pick up on a sale as I’m a whore for anything Ad Mech.
