I agree that separating automobiles from cyclists is far more important for safety. I really like protected bike lanes for that reason. The barrier occupies a little space, but I think it’s a win both for drivers and cyclists.
I’ve also seen photos of some interesting bike lanes that were elevated above the road, but also below the sidewalk level (between the two).

- Comment on The System does not work. 1 week ago:
Construction was and is very regulated in California. Part of what California has been doing is to reduce those regulations to encourage home construction. For example, construction no longer needs to go through an environmental review process if it’s being built on land that already has structures on it. There is a balance when it comes to regulation.

There is no “system” causing high housing prices. In fact, high housing prices are due to the lack of a system: It’s bunch of homeowners each acting in their personal interest by impeding housing construction in order to increase the values of their own properties. That’s why California introduced a system in which all cities must build housing proportionally, or else their local zoning restrictions are nullified and builders can build whatever they want.

Doesn’t ticketmaster now allow you to re-list the tickets for sale within the Ticketmaster app? It would be a smart move, because they get a cut of the sale without taking the risk of the tickets not selling at high prices.

Striving to maximize profit is what companies do. Blaming them is not useful. Instead, advocate for and promote government policies that would disincentivize fossil fuel use, like carbon taxes.

Physical media is no more expensive or inconvenient than it ever was. It’s just that you’re now comparing it to downloads, which bear no manufacturing cost and don’t require you to physically go to a store or have the media shipped to you.

My take on this one (as a prospective home buyer) is that I don’t want to have to deal with real estate agents at all, particularly if they demand to be paid on commission. When they’re laid on commission, they benefit by being lazy and not attempting to negotiate down the price of the home.

It makes the air cold. What’s there to understand
With that logic, leaving your refrigerator door open should cool the room. But doing so would actually heat it up.
- Comment on I've been using this simple trick to keep cool in the heat wave (UK) 1 month ago:
It actually does require some basic knowledge of thermodynamics. Many people think “there are space heaters, so why not space coolers?” The reality is that the heat needs to be pumped out of the room (meaning hot air needs to be vented to the outside of the building).
