TranscendentalEmpire@lemmy.today 1 week agoI’ve already seen a bunch of scare stories about doctors in Canada trying to force it onto patients who don’t want it.
Most of that is being pushed by religious organizations that have been fighting against it for decades now. In reality the medical community were estimating a lot more requests than what they ended up experiencing.
It ends up they did not account for the fact that medical providers in hospice care have been “euthanizing” patients the whole time. Not in the “Doctor death” way, but it’s pretty standard for providers to be a little extra loose with the administration of morphine when caring for patients that are terminally ill and on their last few days or hours.

Wait that’s lowkey a silver lining about getting old, I can get high as balls on opiates and I won’t hear any weird freaks whispering in my ear “but what about your health and your future?!”

I mean, they typically save the food stuff for when you’re really close to dying anyways, but I’ve personally never judged an older patient on opiates. Shit hurts when you get old, respect your elders.
