I figured this would be notable enough to show here.
DSP showed that no player input is needed to complete Wolverine’s first motorcycle section. Considering he’s the sort of guy this level of difficulty is made for, even he’s baffled that he didn’t need to do anything to clear the section.
The people who say the game is far too easy may have a point.
The motorcycle sections are not even 5% of the game, I genuinely don’t understand why this became such a big deal. Like the QTEs, they’re not supposed to be challenging, they’re basically just interactive cutscenes and people are acting like it’s representative of the whole game, it’s absurd. Some lonely haters made up some shit to gripe about and every idiot on the internet hopped on the parrot train.
feels like we’ve shifted the opposite way of how games used to be. you used to not be able to beat a game on easy difficulty (twisted metal for example) now the games are so easy they beat themselves for the most part

You know, when people said “Modern games are like movies that you can play,” I don’t think they meant to emphasize the optional meaning of the word “can.”
Now the real challenge - try failing the segment while controlling him.

There seems to be several difficulties, though the motorcycle section seems to still be simple. That commenter down below showed a demonstration by flats on this section, who cleared it on the 2nd highest difficulty, though he did die once.
I am one of the people who stubbornly select the hardest difficulty on any game after getting the basics out of the way. I still can see the value of offering a “difficulty level” that lets you simply enjoy the story without being bothered by anything that is considered “hardcore gaming”, such as the God Mode in the Hades games or similar things. That’s valid! Not everyone is playing games since their childhood.
But this is simply garbage. If it finishes without me using any input, then i could just watch it on youtube and not pay $$$ for it. It is a deceptive tactic to get you to pay for something that should be inherently interactive, while your decisions don’t matter in the slightest. It is like selling a movie as a game - a movie is fine if i want it, but gaming as a medium lives from the interactivity.
A lot of people have very intense opinions about game difficulty in every direction, but I think all of us would agree with that

It wasn’t that it was difficult. It was that it was just random. And no, driving further to the right alone wasn’t the solution either.
The RC plain was by far the hardest part of that game.
This is what happens when you design games by quantifying everything into a number for a spreadsheet so a manager can read a report. Bet they did a playtest with their “target” audience aka non-gamers Sony wants to convince to buy a PlayStation for this game remember execs and shareholders only care about growing the player base. And some manager looked at the playstest numbers, noticed that many people couldn’t finish the section. And then ordered the team to make sure 90% of non-gamer playtesters can finish the game.
Did this start because of the Cuphead gaming journalist memes, where the person literally couldn’t even finish the tutorial because their hand-eye-coordination was just absolute shit and they couldn’t jump over literally the first obstacle?

The only people watching him are just people that are looking to mock him. And even they started to kinda get bored of it. DSP keeps complaining about declining viewer numbers and income from what I heard.

You should see the driving in 007 First Light. You just hold the steering wheel and when you’re about to hit something “steer assist active” comes up on the screen and it just steers away from it automatically.
Wow, I didn’t know that. Those sections are just supposed to be moments that feel cool and stitch together other parts of the game, so they help pacing, but that game’s use of vehicles in general was pretty underwhelming.
Like how they build up the entire game that you get to use this really fancy car in Q branch, and then it’s only used for a glorified turret sequence. It smelled a whole lot like the scene they wanted to make wouldn’t run well and had to be cut.
I don’t know what part of driving from point a to point b is cool but to each their own I guess. It just feels like filler to make the game feel longer than it actually is.

Found it highly entertaining, and that’s what games are about. I do understand criticism of dumb mechanics and plots and such, I do that all the time, but this simply looks like and is silly entertainment.
Here I thought games were ment to be played. If I wanted to sit and watch something I’d go see a movie.

If this was super easy mode I don’t think anyone would be complaining but this is the only difficulty if i’m not mistaken.
This isn’t even a question of hard or easy challenge. There’s is no challenge. You can literally put the controller down and the game completes that section all on its own.
I don’t see anything wrong with a game without a challenge.
Movies already exist. If you’re not required to press a single button or steer at all, you’re not playing a game.
That’s a single short part of the game that was probably too imbalanced before release. Play it and we can talk again.
It’s not about the lack of difficulty, it’s about the lack of quality and thought that has gone into making this. Large publishers are now convinced that effortless crap like this is the way to go because it will sell anyway, thus dragging down game quality in general.
The game is not crap though according to reviews. The section was probably found too difficult or clunky in playtesting. 20 years ago this would have stayed in and frustrated everyone like that race in the original Mafia.

Eh, as long as Soulslikes remain popular and win awards, I’m fine with this.
I don’t mind a little challenge as long as I can learn the game and master a skill. I don’t like QTEs at all, and that includes dodge/parry mechanics. It’s like playing Guitar Hero on Expert with a controller, but you can’t see the notes. If you’re doing what the game wants but you’re a second or so off and that napes you lose, that’s a game I won’t complete… or shed a single tear if anyone pirates it or the studio closes. Games that punish gamers shouldn’t exist. If gamers want the challenge they can have it, but it should be optional and not required to complete the story. I’m fine with achievements being disabled for lowering the difficulty, just make the game accessible to differently abled gamers.
From what I have heard, the QTEs also self-complete without any user input. There’s easy and then there’s “not even playing the game.”
Exactly. I have no problem witg casual games, or games with an easy options. But if no player input is required, then it is not a game, just an expensive and long animated movie.
Games that punish players that don’t want to be punished shouldn’t exist. Offering “God Mode” or similar features is fine! But since this game offers no other difficulty levels, this is simply false advertising. Games live from the interactivity they provide. If you cut that out, you could just sell a youtube link for five bucks with the same experience.
I see… This is another game about looking cool doing something (at least for this section).
I liked the motorcycle sections in Ghost Rider (PS2).

Lots of hate for this game. Been playing video games my entire life. I’m 41 and have moved towards cozy games and games on easy because I have enough stress in my life. I’m actually enjoying this game.
