Stephenson uses Substack? I really would have imagined him using something more bespoke or Ghost.

Too bad, but I guess that’s what happens when a site is crowd-edited. Changing the genre might not be something people stop to change. Pragmata and Akimboy are just listed as a “Behind View” “Action” games. The filter uses AND operators which means that users would need to mark up games with all 3 tags to work that way.
Fun to see that 2D side scrollers are considered 3rd person by some users though!

You can try this
www.mobygames.com/game/genre:behind-view/
In the genre filter you can add Platform and Action and Shooter

- Comment on What are your hallmark games? What games have shaped how you view games? 1 week ago:
I’ve been playing games since the 80s. I wouldn’t call myself a gamer. Here are a few personal hallmarks…
- Crash ‘n’ the Boys: Street Challenge on NES was the first time I had fun playing multiplayer.
- Metroid II: Return of Samus was the first game I was addicted to. Super Metroid is still my favourite game.
- UMKIII was the first game I actually got pretty good at.
- Starcraft. My brother played this and I loved being a spectator, in hindsight I realized that gaming could be a sport that people would watch at this moment.
- Quake and Descent were the first times I got motion sickness playing games!
- Counter-Strike because everyone played it at university.
- FFVII because I never played it and it is apparently kinda famous…

I’ve only played one and I recommend it: NieR:Automata. If you don’t choose that one, you can watch the series.

An added benefit of moving away from Canva will be the colourspace. Canva doesn’t use CMYK (might have upgraded since the last time I checked). Making your slides with other software will make them print using the right colours.
- Comment on Ethical alternative to Canva? 4 weeks ago:
For slides you can use Impress or Reveal.js
markdown > pandoc > reveal.js is easy, depends on what you’re doing graphics-wise in your slides
(I use LaTeX Beamer slides made with pandoc, but they’re not flashy)
Another option could be Inkscape which can make multipage documents. You can even animate them using jessyink.

I played on Switch and on 2 occasions this game crashed forcing me to restart the map. It was so frustrating. As soon as I finished it 100% I deleted it. Too bad, because like you said, bugs severely impact this game.
- Comment on Which RSS are you using? 3 months ago:
On my personal computer I ended up using a terminal RSS reader (Newsboat) because the RSS software I tried before either rendered poorly or slowly and I would always end up reading the article in my browser. At least I can get through the feed fast. It also does podcasts and I set it up to deal with my YouTube subscriptions too.
On my Android phone I use Capy Reader.
There is no syncing between the devices.
Like lots of folks post-Google Reader I tried a number of online and syncable readers, like Feedly. It turns out it isn’t a big deal of things aren’t synced.

Good Boy Galaxy has some in-game games including Poopsweeper (a Minesweeper clone), Fishing, Rhythm games, juggling and a Star Fox/Railshooter game
- Comment on What browser(s) should I use? 3 months ago:
Stick with Firefox for now.
Some FF forks like LibreWolf break sites because they are too strict. That isn’t a critique, that’s just how LibreWolf works and if your threat model requires it, go for it.
You can toggle the flags or use a userjs like arkenfox or betterfox. Eventually they might also enable these flags.
On Android I like Privacy Browser, but it takes getting used to (I like being logged out when I close the browser in case someone uses my phone).

- No quick restart options for arcade-style games like shmups
- Games that end up being too easy once you unlock of figure out one mechanic or technique like dash-dodge or iframe rolling and now the entire game is just the same loop
- Unskippable or long intros or cutscenes (I sold Guilty Gear Strive because of that eagle thing…)
- The spam garbage ripoffs on the Nintendo eShop that shouldn’t be there
- Code in a box
- When DLC characters are visible on character select even if you didn’t buy them (looking at those 10 greyed-out characters on SF6 are so annoying)
- Comment on What is your favorite Metroidvania? 4 months ago:
Super Metroid will always be my favourite. I also enjoyed Axiom Verge and Bloodstained ROTN.
I generally like shorter Metroidvania like Iconoclasts and some of the Shantae series or even Yoku’s Island Express which has some backtracking.
The Metroidvania tag is a bit like Dubstep in music, a lot of those Dubstep tracks aren’t Dubstep but they can still be fun for some people.

I felt the same way, then I was asked to set one up for someone because we bought it as a group gift. It was so comfortable to use and not at all what I expected. It wasn’t even a great one, just a basic Kobo model. I ended up buying the same model and used it for years. My partner got me a new one and she has my original that still works like day one 14 years ago.

- Comment on Is Star Trek Discovery that bad? 5 months ago:
Most any criticism of the show is true. I will day that it is a good series to watch with people who haven’t watched Star Trek before because it is a little un-Trek-ish and there is less to stop and explain. Also, since the mission is top secret it has little overlap with anything except SNW.
As a Star Trek fan, I was happy to get more Trek, the same as I was happy to get more Picard (that S2 was a pain though!), Lower Decks, Prodigy, and even the Short Treks.
My wife was pulled into the world of Star Trek by Discovery (a full 36 years after I’d started watching the franchise) and now she loves it and wants to watch all of the other series. So, Discovery gets a point for that.
(I haven’t seen Section 31 yet. It is supposed to be very bad.)

I really liked the Pi400. Used it as my main device for at least a year. If I had an extra monitor I’d consider getting this as it seems to deal with my gripes about the previous version.

Multiple people within the company allowed that to happen. The brightest minds money can buy. Cumulative experience that can be measured in decades either did not forsee this or shrugged it off as “not their problem.”
Nasty.

I’m hoping to get at least 5 years out of my current phone. Got it December 2022. The manufacturer has a 5-year warranty and Android updates and promises availability of replacement parts for 10 years. So far, there is no reason to update.

Excellent read. I don’t pay for Kagi but they’ve been on my radar for awhile (my password thingy says I’ve had an account on the site since 2019? That can’t be right).
Anyway, confirmation bias in play here, but I am not a fan.
