America’s founding was a bunch of British rejects and people deemed “too annoying for Europe”, along with their kidnapped, angry slaves.

If you can do a reasonably standard English accent, Americans will mentally add 20 IQ points to how intelligent they perceive you to be.

I once met a woman that was in her late 20s. Worked in tech for 3 years in Prague, and had a pretty TV style British accent.

She was from the Midwest. Spent 3 years in Prague and visited the UK like 3 times, then moved back to Chicago. Insisted she “worked with a lot of Brits and it just stuck.”

Yeah, I’ve worked with a lot of tall people. Didn’t make me grow taller.

Yeah, I’ve worked with a lot of tall people. Didn’t make me grow taller.

You should have worked with small people. That works better.

I was explaining to an English friend how people speaking with a Texan accent seem stupider to Americans. She replied, “Yeah we think the same about people with an American accent.” I would have been offended, but like all Americans from the mid-Atlantic I don’t have an accent. 😉

Unless it’s one of those incomprehensible accents that we can barely comprehend. It’s got to be an RP sounding accent for me to consider adding the IQ points.

I live in Jersey (New), but a friend of ours is from Scotland, our kids are all the same age. He and his family (when they were over for the World Cup) are all just super easy to shoot the shit with. Soft-spoken and an accent makes them difficult to understand at times, but cool people. Got nothing but good things to say about the Scots based off my limited experience.

Humans are traditionally endurance hunters, running things down.

This should have prevented run-away belly fat storage like that.

        TIL.

To me, the obvious answer is that humans were omnivores from the start. We have the forward facing eyes of predators, and teeth that can handle tearing and grinding.

I dunno, I’m American and I can tell them apart. I can essentially understand the Brits, kinda understand the Scots, almost understand the Irish, and the Welsh are completely unintelligible.
