It is a bit more nuanced than that, AFAIK they added female versions of a specific subset of human military, which for all this time were explicitly male with various lore reasons supporting that fact.
I’m not involved on the hobby myself but went on the occasional lore reading spree on the wikis, as s disclaimer. But I can understand that fans are upset about retcons such as this, where there wasn’t much ambiguity in the lore to squeeze the change in, making it a pretty hard lore break

Yeah you would have to make sure it gets sent not only to the media but also use social media, and of course send it to Manx different countries. Chances are at least one is willing to publish it, if only to fuck with America.

I am surprised none of those people has done one of those deadman switches to increase their chance of survival. Like a thing somewhere that info dumps all the incriminating evidence on the web if the user hasn’t entered a passcode for 48 hours
- Comment on I would maybe like a smart watch, can you help me decide? 3 days ago:
Not sure if that is an option for you too, but I have a scanwatch light myself. It is a hybrid smartwatch, being a classic analog watch with a small black and white display in the background.
The scanwatch products are health focused, allowing the user to track a variety of health stats like heartrate, activities and sleep analysis. It is very energy efficient, requring a a recharge about once a month in my case.
It is noteworthy that the hybrid concept makes some cuts to the smartness of the watch, for example replying to messages from the watch is not possible, only reading them as they come in. It doesn’t have touch functionality either, instead you control it with the bezel.
You can configure in the smartphone app which apps are allowed to relay notifications to the watch, giving you the option to filter out most noise that is not relevant to your mom. You can also set up activity plans to track and/or remind her to engage in some moderate activities like taking a walk.
Do note though that the watch asks for a subscription for some premium functions, like workout plans and more in depth health analysis. I don’t have that myself either though, being able to generally monitor my activities is enough for me.

It seems insane to me that Americans use pesticides on their own garden and lawn. Do you not walk on there? have your kids and pets play outside? What are you even trying to kill with the poison?
- Comment on Anon doesn't like any web browsers 1 week ago:
I will not stand for this Firefox slander! I have been using it for literal decades, and never had an issue with it that was not the fault of the website or a shitty extension. No idea why anon thinks it is unstable
- Comment on [Serious] Any high-quality right-wing media, books, explainers? 1 week ago:
Yup that’s him. A Russian ultra nationalist who essentially wrote a game plan for Russia to dismantle the liberal world order of the west, and was/is highly popular in russian political and military leadership. Many of his suggestions are part of russian doctrine today (like the notion that Ukraine has no cultural identity or value and should be taken over). Quite eye opening.

Do people also view kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, species as “ranks” of some sort, with some intrinsically greater value being given to some over others?
Well, for humans we most certainly do

Ah fair enough, that makes more sense then.
- Comment on Does enshitification happen because companies are publicly-traded? 2 weeks ago:
You dont have those things not happen any more because of the stock market, you dont have to endure those things any more because regulations prevent it.
I can guarantee you 100% that if corporations could use child labor again, or dump rats in a meat grinder and sell it, they would in a heartbeat.

It is at nobodys cost, there are no actual people involved here. And why a hypothetical sex worker would be sweating in church is also quote obvious unless you are intentionally obtuse:
If they go to church, they are religious. If they are religious then their occupation is heavily at odds with their faith, so naturally they would be sweating bullets in a church, provided they believe in that mumbo jumbo, because their all seeing god (and possibly the congregation) are silently judging them for it.
Also the status quo doesn’t need to be “challenged”, sex work is legal and normal where I live.
- Comment on This manhole placement is more than mildly infuriating 2 weeks ago:
They really aren’t that heavy. When I was little, maybe 5 or 6, me and my best friend went to a construction site (excavators and cranes, so cool), snuck around on there during off hours (probably super dangerous, but here I am) and took some metal hooks, made from that metal grid stuff they use often in construction.
We then went and opened the actual manhole covers in my backyard with them, and even climbed down there (not that interesting, basically a few meters deep, with a small open sewage line running at the bottom).
Long story short, two pre school boys could open them by themselves in the 90s

How is this slut shaming? Its a humorous saying. No religion is very accepting of overtly promiscuous people. Try not to overthink everything

I am probably talking as not an american, which is why I have a reasonable amount of trust in my government and its ability to build not shitty looking housing. They do that too sometimes, but still.
- Comment on Anon's brother hates concrete 3 weeks ago:
Fair enough, i am fortunate enough to not have to speak from experience on the subject. But when building social housing on a large scale, hiring some halfway decent architects to design some functional and simple, but modern and liveable apartments is only a tiny fraction of the cost.
Think dense housing with a little less uniformity and more quality of life in mind, like room for planting and communal green spaces, perhaps areas that could be used and allocated by the inhabitants instead of pre planned rigidness. More colors, windows, etc.
Touching up a purely functional block design with these all very cheap and minor adjustments could make them a lot more appealing.
Though I of course concede that if the budget is so small that this isnt feasible, the purely functional aspect comes first.
- Comment on Anon's brother hates concrete 3 weeks ago:
I get where you’re coming from, but making the slightest effort towards aesthetics when designing the apartment blocks doesn’t cost much comparatively. I think brutalist architecture has its place too, but I could definitely see how coming home to apartment #5722 on floor #12 of block 31 in a trite and looming concrete labyrinth isnt very appealing to a lot of people. Making homely and livable apartments costs only slightly more and would do wonders in getting people to accept them.
- Comment on Is there a more politically and ideologically diverse alternative for Lemmy? 3 weeks ago:
It’s almost like I need to choose a team and then subscribe to the ideologies of that team when in reality I’m more of a pick and choose type of person.
This sums up my feelings lately very nicely. I’d say I am generally well aligned with the culture on here, and share most leftist views. However there are certain topics, and even just sub aspects of certain topics, that will net you a lot of downvotes very quick and condescending proselytizing comments if you even slightly differ from the general consensus in your views.
I’m not sure what could be done about this though, I certainly dont want Lemmy to be more welcoming towards alt right bullshit and such. But talking with a bunch of queer leftists about queer leftist things all the time is like that old south park episode where the parents become pretentious wine snobs and start getting high on their own farts. Boring, pointless self aggrandizement.
- Comment on Anon's brother hates concrete 3 weeks ago:
I completely agree, except with the suggestion that apartment blocks must be brutalist to be space efficient. It wouldn’t be very difficult to make apartment blocks which dont look depressingly gray and blocky. Its just the cheapest thing to do, but in my opinion even (or especially) the lower class deserves to live in homely conditions too.
- Comment on Anon wants a Mexican gamedev 4 weeks ago:
Is “latine” the new latinx after that got overwhelmingly rejected by actually latino people? If so that seems very presumptuous to try, again, to push something onto a foreign language the speakers do not want.
It also reads very unfortunate, I did a triple take because I kept processing it as latrine.
- Comment on Anon finds his people 4 weeks ago:
Being unable to find a group of enablers to reinforce each other’s insanity is a good thing.
Having to have actual, real life humans as your social circle helps in actually socializing people. Like kittens who need other cats around to learn how to properly cat themselves. Without it they develop social issues or worse.

That seems short sighted, for example the very popular voyager client doesn’t show any profile pictures. I wasn’t even aware those are a thing. I dont want one either though.
