Fake, but even if it was true, the problem would have probably been the age change and not the gender change. Teenage relationships and adult relationships have different rules…

Also, teenagers are poorer, so any gift would carry more weight.
idiomaddict@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Yeah, I have to assume 18 year old women are on average way, way, way poorer than 40 year old men. That’s true regardless of the gender, 40 tends to be a pretty high spot in personal capital.
RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de 2 months ago
Tell me about those rules. I want to learn!
Azzu@lemm.ee 2 months ago
It depends entirely on the maturity of the parties involved, it’s not really an “older/younger” thing.
But generally, the less mature you are, the more a relationship is selfish, i.e. you want to be in a relationship for your personal advantage, i.e. “i get sex when I have a girlfriend”. The more mature you get, the more relationships go into the direction of “I want to make the other person happy”. You still get your sex or whatever other advantage of course, but it’s much more fulfilling if you can actually give the other person what they need, and temporarily losing your personal benefit of the relationship doesn’t cause immediate breakups.
zloubida@lemmy.world 2 months ago
No. Those rules have to be learnt the hard way.

And also gay.
Lemmy dumping on Reddit via a 4chan greentext

it’s real and straight
cheddar@programming.dev 2 months ago
It’s real, but anon imagined himself as an 18 y/o girl with a boyfriend. Still gay.

AmITheAsshole is 99% rage bait and fan fiction. “Am I the Asshole for letting my wife only sleep with 8 different guys, while cucking myself and paying everything for her? I’m totally unsure if I’m, in this Ludacris Situation in which I’m clearly being abused, being unreasonable… PLS BE NICE, GIVE ME ATTENTION! PLS PLS PLS PLS PLS PLS!!!”
way_of_UwU@programming.dev 2 months ago
Hot take: AITA (and even moreso those “Reddit Stories” channels on TikTok and YouTube) is just The Jerry Springer Show for Gen Z.
samus12345@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Yes, he’d be an asshole for giving her them as a birthday present, regardless of the fact that he got her other presents as well. Just ask her if she wants them after he gets his new ones.
SuperSaiyanSwag@lemmy.zip 2 months ago
This is actually what the consensus was in that post, but the 4channer was blinded by his own assumption of “men bAD, gIRls gOoD” rhetoric
Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 2 months ago
Jeez. The valid answer to this “problem” took a while to find. Even here.
yegambit@lemmy.world 2 months ago
I guess it would be nice to have people think equally of men and women, but I don’t think the better way to do it is to create fake stories on 4chan
Tattorack@lemmy.world 2 months ago
The story is absolutely fake, however…
It’s satirical. It’s basically making fun of something that does occur on the subreddit. There is very much a double standard going on over there, and this story is a satire of that.
KingJalopy@lemm.ee 2 months ago
Someone up there ^ found the original post but not the gender swapped version. But it’s still a made up dumb story.
Clbull@lemmy.world 2 months ago
This is actually a real post but I cannot find the genderswapped version.
Randomgal@lemmy.ca 2 months ago
Maybe because it sa fake story? Lol
undergroundoverground@lemmy.world 2 months ago
I does have a certain “and then the whole bus clapped” energy to it.
Good thing they left reddit and went to 4chan where they could get away from ultra thirsty guys acting all kinds of crazy over women.
Schadrach@lemmy.sdf.org 2 months ago
It may or may not be. I can’t speak to that post, but I’ve seen others pull the same bit with other posts (wait a week or two and repost with a gender swap, then point to the radical difference in response) and usually the gender swapped version gets deleted and the poster banned when it comes out.

Some subs do be like that. The crowd changes a lot with subs
stebo02@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 months ago
I interpreted “subs” as submissive men and yes, most subs do be like that
Pacattack57@lemmy.world 2 months ago
That sub is a circlejerk for white knights and femenists
UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Also a great place for training bots and gauging responses.

Wasn’t there some trend of people wanting to make self-driving cars take into account ethics in their decision making in emergencies, by having some website where people could pretty much solve trolley problems, with just a conductor in the trolley to also take into account some years ago? I’m imagining them scraping that subbredit for answers to questions like “AITA for having run over 2 orphan children in order to save 6 old ladies?”
SuperSaiyanSwag@lemmy.zip 2 months ago
I’m pretty sure most stories are made up too. They just seem so well written with no grammatical errors or anything.
WILSOOON@programming.dev 2 months ago
Thank christ i left reddit for lemmy, this place is so muchnicer and better for my mental health.

This green text, like every post on AitA is a work of fiction.
gmtom@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Lmao I’ve actually done just that before, swapping the genders of a previous post, and people do say the complete opposite even though it’s the same situations.
AlexisFR@jlai.lu 2 months ago
Yeah they just don’t act like thus stereotypical over there.
Also “femoid”?
festnt@sh.itjust.works 2 months ago
i think femoid might mean a feminist who goes overboard and instead of equality, believes that women should have more rights than men
LarmyOfLone@lemm.ee 2 months ago
No, it’s a term to dehumanize women they don’t agree with. Don’t be stupid and explain how there are good people on the incel side.
Riven@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 months ago
It’s just want they call women because women aren’t people in their eyes. Classic neckbeard sexist shit.

Wtf why would anyone (I know, I know, fake story, but hear me out) gift their USED in-ear headphones. I wouldn’t touch that thing with a ten-foot pole, regardless if it was “cleaned”.
qjkxbmwvz@startrek.website 2 months ago
An incidental exchange of earwax with your (romantic/sexual/life) partner is — how do I put this? — not particularly noteworthy for a lot of folks…
Randomgal@lemmy.ca 2 months ago
I’ll eat ass, but using your headphones? That’s where I draw the line.
Maalus@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Especially with ear licking being a thing
Hellstormy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 months ago
If you change out the rubber front part, then I would have no problem with it.
Floodedwomb@lemmy.world 2 months ago
I would gladly accept used but good condition ear buds. If they’re of good quality.
2ugly2live@lemmy.world 2 months ago
I do think the age changes it. If it’s an 18 year old guy asking about his girlfriend, I also would be like, “hey, that may be a bit much. Old ones are fine.” cause they’re young. The expectations are lower. If it’s an adult woman asking this for her husband, I would say to not give it on their birthday. “Hey, here’s my old pair. Happy birthday” may be a bit flippant, but saying, “Hey, I got a new pair, want my old one?” doesn’t seem like a bad deal.
Also, we didn’t see the post. Maybe the other gifts were also bad. Not saying that AITA isn’t a dumpster fire. But he changed the factors and didn’t give us all the information.
Clear@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 months ago
Fake AF, there isn’t any post with reverse genders on the subreddit.
NateNate60@lemmy.world 2 months ago
The AITAH people are nothing if not weirdly observant of what happens on that sub. This would be caught immediately
UnityDevice@startrek.website 2 months ago
The text is probably made up, but people have done such swap posts several times before and got similarly opposite results. Usually the posts get removed from the sub when someone eventually notices the deception, but you can still read them if you have a link. It’s a very toxic sub.
Comment105@lemm.ee 2 months ago
This post is just a 4chan user doing the only thing they know. Eat hot chip and lie.

The sucky answer is if lemmy gets popular it’ll just be Reddit without the ban lists
psud@aussie.zone 2 months ago
I like that many of the prep like who should be banned here herd into instances that are defederated
Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 2 months ago
Shouldn’t have changed the ages, it chanhges the whole thing too much to compare
Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 2 months ago
It’s funny because when I was in my 20s the girlfriends I had always were way richer than I was…
JackbyDev@programming.dev 2 months ago
Thought this would be a joke about how the titles of AITA posts that sound innocent are typically the ones where OP is the asshole. Like “Can I give someone my old headphones?” Yes, obviously. “Wrapped as a gift,” um, that feels a little insensitive. Probably just give them unwrapped and don’t say it’s part of the gift.

Are you, like, buying a new spoon every time you want to eat? Are you unfamiliar with the concept of cleaning?
IGuessThisIsForNSFW@yiffit.net 2 months ago
In their defense, properly cleaning headphones is kinda hard, especially wireless earbuds.
Source : Used to work at an electronics repair shop that cleaned stuff, and even clean ‘looking’ (aka externally clean) headphones can have some disgusting junk on the inside.
Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 2 months ago
This is not a Reddit thing this is just double standards…
Jiggle_Physics@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Yeah, people act like a site with half a billion users somehow is only representative of a very niche population contained within reddit. I also love the “well I saw x posted here yesterday and people loved it! Here it is today, and people hate it! reddit can’t make up its mind!”, as if reddit is a monolith, they took the hive-mind shit-talk literally. Then that same person will complain when that reddit is a hive mind…
My guy, this is just how people are. You are in a place where the group is large enough that you, in the population statistics sense, are getting a snapshot of humanity.
abracaDavid@lemmy.today 2 months ago
I recently read one where the wife was on her laptop and ignoring her husband when he asked her to look at something. So he flicked a lighter in her face, and then she slapped him in his face.
90% of the comments said that she was completely justified in hitting this guy in the face and that she should divorce him.
Anyone saying that you can’t just hit people in the face was down voted to hell.
HawlSera@lemm.ee 2 months ago
I consider myself a misanthrope, but, Reddit showed me my opinion of humanity was STILL too high

All the advice subs had a lot of fiction
Clent@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Yeah that subreddit in particular went to shit when the news sites started using the posts to generate content.
theneverfox@pawb.social 2 months ago
I used to love that sub. Then it started to be about legal responsibilities instead of morality… From there it really turned into a dumpster fire
The only time I’ve ever been banned on a forum because although I said the woman had the right to do what she did and the guy was clearly in the wrong, she needlessly escalated when empathy would’ve led to a better result for everyone
No explanation, just a temp ban. For advocating empathy and third path conflict resolution
Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 2 months ago
The funniest posts are when commenters get angry OP disagrees with them or makes their own decisions. It’s like they think seeking advice creates a binding contract to follow that advice if it gets agreed with enough.
If you follow advice that you don’t agree with, you are an idiot, even if the advice is actually good. And disagreeing or arguing when you don’t agree is a good way to resolve it if you don’t see why someone would suggest that.
People should only go to that sub for entertainment. Or if you bring a real problem there, use it as a way to get a variety of different perspectives while keeping in mind some commenters might be literal teenagers (or even younger) with no life experience and half of the replies will be either projecting their own shit onto your situation, won’t understand what you wrote, or want to play Sherlock Holmes but their version relies on assumptions they pull out of their ass instead of genius level observational skills, logic, and most of all, the favour of sir Arthur Conan Doyle who can write him as smart or as dumb as his plot about a genius detective needs him to be. Oh, and assholes, the real assholes are in the comments.
And if you scroll down to the bottom of the thread, you get to see some really interesting world views. Or sometimes the rational ones when one of the more popular biases gets triggered.
someguy3@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Sometimes you got people picking up and saying “there needs to be something else to this story”.
