I wouldn’t really count Valve as a competitor because
-
Their pivot towards Linux came from a perceived threat that Microsoft could force users into using their app store exclusively, and effectively shutter Steam out of the market entirely. This is something Microsoft have already done with Windows 10 S.
-
The OG Steam Machines were a massive flop for various reasons, and the new one Valve is creating in-house is set to be priced more equivalently to a gaming PC than a home console.
-
PC gaming has always been treated as its own separate thing.

- Comment on Xbox chief Phil Spencer is leaving Microsoft 1 week ago:
Do you want a future where PlayStation is the only home console? Because that’s how you get a future where PlayStation is the only home console.
And with Sony holding a monopoly (not counting Nintendo because they’ve pretty much been doing their own thing since the Wii), they’re gonna jack up prices and force exclusivity deals to further consolidate their monopoly, as any company with such a dominant market position would.
- Comment on Xbox chief Phil Spencer is leaving Microsoft 1 week ago:
Phil Spencer was a shit CEO. He absolutely cucked the shit out of Microsoft by releasing all their exclusives on competing platforms and eliminating any reason to even buy an Xbox Series S or X console.
Newsflash: Exclusivity sells games consoles. It’s why you don’t see Sony pushing their IPs on other platforms other than in very exceptional circumstances, i.e. Helldivers 2 and MLB The Show.

Kamala lost because it was obvious from the beginning that she was a bad candidate whose only hope of becoming President was to be parachuted into the role via the 25th Amendment once Biden’s mental state truly deteriorated. Unfortunately for her and the DNC, Biden’s condition declined right as a key presidential debate rolled around, and his declining cognitive health became so utterly apparent that not even Reddit’s tyrannical cabal of power mods could cover it up anymore.
Before that debate, even merely suggesting that Biden was senile would have gotten you labelled a Nazi and banned from at least a dozen subreddits.
THAT is why she lost to a convicted felon.

Firaxis are like the Bethesda of turn based strategy games. They release buggy jank and expect modders to fix it.

His Andrew Tate one is comedy gold. Perfectly nails a depiction of him that’s both realistic and like incredibly unflatting uncanny valley body horror.

- Comment on Krafton Issue Statement Regarding Subnautica 2 7 months ago:
I am inclined to believe that Krafton are completely in the right, they were not lying about Charlie’s side-hustle, after all. He is genuinely putting his time into producing three different film projects, and there is no way you are going to juggle these with the full time development of a video game sequel…
Krafton also wouldn’t put out a statement like this if it weren’t true, otherwise they’d be getting sued out of their arse.
- Comment on Microsoft has never been good at running game studios, which is a problem when it owns them all 7 months ago:
AoE III was excellent. It explored new ideas and did it well. As a long time AoE fan who played all of them since the first, AoE II is massively overhyped, and AoE III is unfairly shit on.
AoE2 genuinely had a small competitive scene on Voobly and Gameranger. It was being played as a grassroots esport by dedicated fans even before the HD and DE remasters.
One of the third game’s glaring problems was how poorly balanced it was. IIRC the winning strategy was to play French (who already had overpowered cavalry), rush to the third age and use a particular tech to effectively blockade your opponent’s home city and prevent them from playing anything in their deck.
Even when AoE3’s Definitive Edition came out, fixed a lot of the balance issues and added a bunch of new civs via expansions, the damage was already done and sales were so low that Microsoft cancelled their latest expansion and halted development a few months ago.
Also they were voluntold to do Halo Wars, and they did a good job on it. It’s a good game, and it did an excellent job on console with a controller scheme, which was impressive at the time.
Played the Xbox 360 demo of Halo Wars near its initial release and wasn’t impressed. All I really remember about the game beyond that was how bad the box art looked. I mean those spartans look like they have fucking long giraffe necks.
Gamepad controls and real time strategy just don’t mix. You either make something so mechanically slow that keyboard & mouse would shit all over that control style, or have to bastardize the game mechanics so much that it’s all but fully automated. The only game I’ve seen remotely work as a gamepad RTS is Tooth and Tail.

I 100% believe the claim that Microsoft executives mistakenly thought they’ve just nabbed the Donkey Kong IP by acquiring Rare. Definitely seems like something some c-suite ghouls who are totally out of touch with the games industry would believe.
Also, I’m not sure how much of Rare’s downfall was due to Microsoft’s mismanagement or their core talent leaving to form other studios. Maybe a bit of both.

To be fair, Age of Empires III was bad, and the last project Ensemble was working on before they got shuttered was a Halo MMO.
Also, Robot Entertainment (the studio that rose from the ashes of Ensemble) were the initial developers of Age of Empires Online, which was P2W slop that 90% of players couldn’t run because Games For Windows LIVE was a buggy crock of shit. And since then they’ve released nothing but Orcs Must Die games.

Eighteen months ago, I was an advocate for Microsoft buying Activision Blizzard, because I didn’t think anybody could have done a worse job than Bobby Kotick.
Phil Spencer has proven me wrong. This arsehole tried to shut down Tango Gameworks after they literally shadowdropped a critically acclaimed GOTY contender.
- Comment on Mario Kart World Faces Massive Backlash After Update, Online Racing Experience Ruined 7 months ago:
Yup.
Best kart/racer combination in the game is genuinely one of the Bowser ones, due to having the lowest acceleration and highest top speed in the game.
- Comment on Mario Kart World Faces Massive Backlash After Update, Online Racing Experience Ruined 8 months ago:
I’ll add some context, as I actually own a Switch 2 and Mario Kart World.
The game is full of “intermission tracks”, where the next race starts at the previous track and you effectively drive to the next track for the first two laps, then complete a single lap of the destination track.
Many people voted Random in online multiplayer instead of picking one of the three interconnecting tracks, because the intermission tracks frankly suck for the most part, and are just straight-line roads. By picking Random, the game would actually pick a completely different course and you’d do a standard 3-lap race, like you would by selecting the course in Time Trial mode.
At least that’s what used to happen, before the latest patch… Now, random actually picks one of the three interconnecting courses, and no longer picks a random course.

If you think the midterms are going to be democratic in nature, you’ve still got another 17 months of Trump’s current bullshit to consider.

- Comment on Content Cop - iDubbbz 9 months ago:
Well yes, it was in very large part because Froggy had chosen to associate with Sam Hyde, by having them train together for CC2 and plan to collab on their own content. And Ian’s beef with Hyde was that he insulted his girlfriend, which was what got him banned from CC1 in the first place.
Ian’s growth has been one of the most amazing things I’ve seen online and I can’t understand people who hate him. They always bring up shit that would, at most, bring me mild annoyance if it was about someone I hated online, but they say that this somehow makes Ian a horrible person. Insane.
My problem with iDubbbz is that he’s a hypocrite. You don’t make this elaborate apology video condemning your past content for its cruelty and “cwy hawassment” at people you don’t like, and then proceed to drop a Content Cop on H3 a year later because your viewer count is dwindling and you need to defend your political streamer buddies who had been relentlessly harassing and swatting Ethan on false claims that he and his wife are Zionists.
- Comment on Content Cop - iDubbbz 9 months ago:
It’s more complicated than that. As in Sam Hyde has actually been involved in some of this drama.
iDubbbz (Ian) did a documentary on Sam Hyde and they were both trying to make each other look silly with the footage they had. Sam released his edit but it took ages and a lot of pressure for Ian to release his side. After this, they had a falling out which later impacted Creator Clash and ruined Ian’s credibility.
Creator Clash 1 was successful, but Creator Clash 2 was very unsuccessful and ended up $250k in the red for a few reasons. One of the big ones is that Ian removed Froggy Fresh from the card simply because he was friends with Sam Hyde, and over a joke about signing up to Ian’s girlfriend’s OnlyFans. Of course everyone called him weak, a cuck, etc afterwards.
Last year Ian released a video titled “I miss the old iDubbbz” which was kinda prompted by the backlash he got towards CC2. He effectively apologized for his old Content Cop series and for his old edgy humour and acted like he gained a tonne of empathy.
And then… He dropped a Content Cop on H3 about two weeks ago which proved his apology video was full of shit.
H3 (Ethan) used to be friends with Fr0gan and HasanAbi until October 7th, and then they had beef over their stances on Israel & Palestine, he and his wife (who served in the IDF because Israeli citizens have to do mandatory military service) got labelled a Zionist and had been relentlessly harassed ever since. One of the people in their circle spread false rumors that Ethan wasn’t cleaning up dog shit and was endangering his kids, and so actually maliciously called Child Protective Services on him. Ian of course omitted all context of this and spun footage in a way that made Ethan look like an unhinged asshole.
- Comment on Content Cop - iDubbbz 9 months ago:
It’s important for the context of why fans fell out with Creator Clash after the second one.
