I wonder if they feel the same way about police unions, or wait no I don’t wonder.
Well if that isn't just about the most evil thing you could openly admit to doing.

I already support unions (in one) and adore teachers because I pretty much worship at the church of education. They have one of the most important jobs in society. It’s kinda hard to make me more sympathetic to their plight, but hey, you did it.

explodicle@sh.itjust.works 14 hours ago
Forever? How dare you! We just need diarrhea for this one most important election of our lifetimes. I refuse to acknowledge anything beyond a single iteration.
Atomic@sh.itjust.works 19 hours ago
Is it because instead of trying to improve the lives of people in a meaningful way. They think giving everyone a puppy will be the solution?
While not once realising that 350 million puppies is going to require some serious imports, quarantines, vacinations, construction of holding facilities (i guess they could repurpose their concentration camps), employees to oversee the puppies while in quarantine, vets to administer vacines. Janitors and cleaners to maintain the premises.
So… instead of just giving everyone universal healthcare. They’ll spend twice as much on puppies. That sure does sound like the US in a nutshell
teuniac_@lemmy.world 19 hours ago
I totally get the point. But to be fair, the US has such a high GDP that it could afford all of this. But, it would require taxing the wealthy a bit more.
Rooster326@programming.dev 11 hours ago
70% of Americans support universal healthcare
This is not a Red vs Blue issue.
This is a class warfare issue
TheObviousSolution@lemmy.ca 16 hours ago
Puppy is right, not really a solution, good PR, and not diarrhea forever. And in the comments, you can even begin to guess who would be claiming that they are not a real solution so you should vote against free puppies and vote for diarrhea forever to shake up the system so they offer something better next time even though next time everyone’s toilet and sewer system is going to be backed up and in need of dire repair by then as well because and also, everyone is suffering from diarrhea forever now as well.
CalemitousVariantK@lemmy.world 13 hours ago
Regrettably this is sold as “The government steals your money to buy immigrants puppies” vs “Your freedom to choose which self-regulating corporation’s food you buy–free market in action!”
And more regrettably people believe it against all evidence.

Conservatives hate teachers because teachers don’t need to work when kids aren’t in school for the summer. That’s the only complaint I’ve ever truly heard from them. Meanwhile, those same teachers are up stupid early, on time every fucking day, dealing with over-filled classes of every type of child, and then doing even more labour in the evenings as they aren’t officially given much of any time to create plans or mark work.
LookBehindYouNowAndThen@lemmy.world 13 hours ago
They also do work during the summer, making lesson plans, teaching summer school, working a second job, etc.
But if Republicans made policy decisions based on reality they wouldn’t be Republicans.
moustachio@lemmy.world 11 hours ago
They’re not detached from reality; they work on behalf of the Epstein class the most aggressively to keep the working class desperate and divided.
They just don’t care about “reality,” they want to inflict maximum pain.
Dnb@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 hours ago
Their pay is insanely low as well, and they can either not get paid for summer, or take their pay even lower per month to cover summer too
PissMissile@lemmy.world 13 hours ago
There’s plenty more that they complain about with teachers. They complain that they are ineffective, promote progressive ideals, target their children’s shitty behavior, aren’t held accountable, and the whole “those who can’t do, teach” bullshit.
I used to be a teacher. I’ve seen it all, heard it all.
DarkFuture@lemmy.world 10 hours ago
Conservatives hate teachers because they educate the masses and an educated populace doesn’t vote Republican.
BCsven@lemmy.ca 13 hours ago
Since COVID some Conservative people I know have become like those animals that can’t comprehend things that didn’t happen right in front of them.
My kid is a teacher (in Canada so they are paid really well). But its solely on them to develop all the lessons and gather everything needed. They are working to do this after hours and weekends.
WudgieLore@lemmy.zip 8 hours ago
In the USA we’re indoctrinated in schools. Faje history and other b.s. Im not maga or republican but I also cant side with more bullshit from schools that dont actually teach. Glad you guys up north get it. Teachers matter even if they are doing the work of multiple people. At least you get paid.
kestrel7_7@lemmy.world 13 hours ago
Also plenty of blue collar professions that conservatives profess to respect… also work seasonally.
apftwb@lemmy.world 7 hours ago
Those public school teachers have had it too good for too long.
Polisheocket@lemmy.zip 10 hours ago
Great so teachers have no support, and people wonder why we have a shortage of teachers
bigmclargehuge@lemmy.zip 10 hours ago
It’s by design.
Once upon a time, the USA had a strong middle class. Billionaires got taxed heavily, and our public schools were the envy of the world. Well funded and produced a lot of great students.
But educated people are difficult to control and even harder to dupe. The GOP realized that if they can gut public education, the masses will become malleable again. Meanwhile, the children of the rich can continue to go to expensive private institutions for their own education. So the rich stay educated, and the poor’s go in the gutter.
Damage@feddit.it 9 hours ago
Only problem with that is that a society like that becomes very unsuccessful, lowering the standard of living for everyone, including the rich.
iocase@lemmy.zip 4 hours ago
Also cutting education now has no effect for about 25 years or so. Their short term brainrot is so bad they would abolish education entirely in a heart beat and coast on those miniscule savings for a few decades until the world rips itself apart…
Also, my pet conspiracy is they all know the world is going to devolve into chaos due to global heating and climate destabilization anyways so why should they care about education when its not going to produce anything worthwhile when the chaos hits…
minorkeys@sh.itjust.works 10 hours ago
It should also be noted that they must be malleable beneath the threshold of the GOPs competence. So to effectively manipulate, the GOP need ms a population more ignorant than the DNC does. The left can afford smarter ppl because the leadership itself is more competent.

Corey A. DeAngelis is an American advocate for school choice.
DeAngelis was an adjunct scholar at the Cato Institute, a libertarian think tank. He worked for the American Federation for Children, a conservative education nonprofit group founded by Betsy DeVos, from 2021 to 2024.
He joined the board of directors of the Liberty Justice Center in 2022. He has appeared on Fox News multiple times to as a commentator on education policy.
DeAngelis has described school choice as “a winner for Trump”. He contributed to the Project 2025 document, in the section discussing education and the dissolution of the U.S. Department of Education.
In 2024, he released the book The Parent Revolution.
This guy’s literally done nothing his entire life besides get paid by right-wing think tanks to undercut public schools
wewbull@feddit.uk 15 hours ago
Why do people in the US equate “choice” with destroying other people’s protections?
- “School choice” = removing teacher’s work protections.
- “Health care choice” = no healthcare unless you can pay through the nose.
- “Food choice” = some of the worst food standards in the hemisphere.
ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 14 hours ago
Almost all of it is, or at least originates, from racism, at least with schools.
When public schools allowed racial integration , school choice became a mechanism for racists to pull their kids from mixed schools.
It grew into things like charter schools that are private, often religious, schools that get public funding and maintain segregation.
SarahValentine@pawb.social 14 hours ago
It’s a classic conservative propaganda technique to name things the opposite of what they actually mean. If it contains the word “freedom” it’s about tyranny. If it says “protect” it means persecution, and if it says “children” just mentally append “fuck” in front of it.
explodicle@sh.itjust.works 14 hours ago
Because of all this competition we have in the market! With many schools near your home, they compete for your conforming child’s business. What with the labor shortage, we have all these employers with that good health insurance competing for our time. And of course, small farmers are doing great and supply our many competing food markets.

Why? They were well-read women, aka “woke women” so they “sent a message” (don’t mess with the patriarchy). Also, King James, his Witch General Finders, and the “demonologists” were all men, and they found women an easier target to do bad things too.

They’ve done the decades of work to turn people against unions, convincing MAGAts that unions are proto-communist organizations that extort unfair wages though dishonest practices while sitting around not working. They have people looking over at them saying “how come you get paid so much?” Instead of “I should get paid that much too.”
People are dumb. Whatcha gonna do.

My conservative civics teacher once said that all unions, with the exception of Teacher Unions were obsolete. I wonder how he’s feeling right now.
bejergalbam@lemmy.world 14 hours ago
“All unions are bad except my union” is the much more consistent application of inherently hypocritical conservative values, compared to what they can say to a broad audience through right wing media. Hilarious.
Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 4 hours ago
This guy was such a bootlicker, I’m surprised he didn’t also exempt Police Unions.
Squirrelknight@lemmy.world 10 hours ago

DarkFuture@lemmy.world 10 hours ago

Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 4 hours ago
Poor and stupid or rich and stupid.
Unions are the new solution to an old problem. The previous solution was dragging the boss out of his house in the middle of the night.
nickiwest@lemmy.world 4 hours ago
They should ask Matt Bevin how things went when he tried to mess with the Kentucky teachers’ unions.
Spoiler: We got Andy Beshear as governor.
(Yes, it’s more nuanced than that. He was screwing with more public servants than just the teachers. But the teachers’ not-legally-a-strike was highly effective, and I personally knew Republican teachers who actively campaigned against Bevin.)

There’s a reason that authoritarian revolutions typically have a “kill all the eggheads” phase. That type of arrogance isn’t compatible with someone saying, “Hey guys, I’ve studied this my whole life and what you’re saying is incorrect.”. Fragile egos can’t deal with the idea that they might be wrong about something, so they just hulk smash anything that might cause cognitive dissonance and move on.
