The issue is there’s some situations where forces necessary and should be exerted by the state and defining when it should and shouldn’t be used is difficult. I definitely agree with you in spirit but what do you do when you have a fascist uprising like the Confederacy?

Yeah I found that strange too most of my gaming PCs have lasted me somewhere between 7 and 10 years. Would seem completely unnecessary for most people

Actually one time in a fuel saving measure memo Obama mentioned checking your tire pressure as a small footnote and they made a major talking point on at least 3 weeks of Fox News about how his fuel measures were entirely about checking tire pressure.

Honestly, it’s exhausting on the ego, though, because I constantly question myself and I’m aware of how much I don’t know. From the outside, that does make me seem deficient.
I think that’s partly why the debate bro energy caught on, you don’t actually need to know anything. You just need to project strength.
The irony is that real knowledge feeds more doubt, not less. The more you learn, the more you see the edges of your own ignorance.

I think you may be thinking about it too literally, what is often inferred by objectifying someone is sexualizing from the point they stop being the person. That their only role in society becomes as a sex object, think of how women are often treated during the 50s and 60s as little more than an object of reproduction and sexualization.

Honestly I find Lemmy to be generally sex positive as long as you don’t objectify.

If anything we’re back sliding in the other direction and I think one of the most troubling things I’ve noticed is that workers don’t see unions as themselves fighting together but another organization they can complain to.

This happened to me except that straight up told them that was my bike and said I’m taking it now. I did verify that they weren’t in a dire financial state before I left though because if it meant they were not going to eat tonight, I wanted to make sure they were taken care of.

That we can agree on.
- Comment on [deleted] 1 month ago:
I myself am poly but I’ve been in a relationships where the other person wasn’t comfortable with it and agreed to monogamy and have been on the giving and receiving end of infidelity. As I’ve gotten older I’ve understood the damage I’ve done and how to properly engage with those feelings and have an open an honest discussion.
I think we actually agree more than it seemed. Feelings aren’t choices. Actions are. And the social punishment for failing at monogamy is often brutal and unfair. I just think two people can still freely say 'don’t act on it and if they both mean it, breaking that hurts. That’s all.
- Comment on [deleted] 1 month ago:
So am I correct in saying under your framework monogamy can never be chosen freely? Or would it be at more accurate to say that if it was chosen it’ll be chosen via action and not agreement?
- Comment on [deleted] 1 month ago:
And that’s fine that’s a completely reasonable conclusion. But the stance you took earlier wasn’t a personal one it was one that it wasn’t right for anyone.
- Comment on [deleted] 1 month ago:
It may be but if two parties agreed to it in good faith and expected it to be the norm going forward under no duress, then they are absolutely a shitty person for not abiding by it.

I know this is just a shit post so I’m not taking it seriously just more using it as a tangent to talk about something that’s been rooting around in my brain for a while.
I have always lived below my means. If I want something I write it down and then if I still want it in a month I’ll think about it but the most important thing to me is that if I buy something I’ll actually use it.
If I won the lottery I don’t think my life would change that much. I know everyone says this but I really mean it. I would probably just donate it.
I simply do not need more money and there are so many people that could really use that money to feed themselves, to clothe themselves. Maybe it’s easier to say now but I don’t think so.
I’ve always had the money to buy a car, hell, at some points I’ve had the enough to do it in cash but I’ve always taken the bus.
