The correct answer is to not reply to this text, and then eventually the girl will break and ask you why you never replied to the text, to which you can say, “Oh, that was you? I thought it was a scam text. I don’t talk to unknown numbers”.
OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Or “oh, that was you? We never became exclusive and instead of having a conversation with me like adults, you started to play games with me like children. I think we both know this relationship will not work. I hope you find whatever drama filled relationship you’re looking for”

The correct answer is not to cheat.
deft@lemmy.wtf 2 days ago
She says “talking to” I don’t think that’s really cheating.
I’m a full grown adult. I do have friendships with people I had relationships with. I do hangout with friends who are women. I do have relationships at work where someone expresses interest in me and I engage
If we are just talking and being friends, figuring out what this could be. I don’t think that’s an exclusivity thing. Make that clear, ask for that, establish the relationship. Talking to you doesn’t suddenly acquire a relationship from me.
boonhet@sopuli.xyz 2 days ago
If they discussed exclusivity, sure. But we don’t really know if that’s even happened yet.

“What message? Oh no, I blocked unknown numbers, I didn’t see that”
Feel like this is pretty easy to work around…

iMessage sends read receipts by default, so she can probably see that he read it.
undefined@lemmy.hogru.ch 2 days ago
Is it really by default? I had it on for a long, long time but thoughts others had it off by default. Now I have it off by default too but turn it on for people I actually care about.
Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 2 days ago
Lol. Look at this guy, able to have more than one person interested in him.
Tiral@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Sure. It’s also not weird for someone to not want to be with someone who’s keeping you around as a backup or piece of ass, especially being represented as a real relationship. Putting your all into one person and expecting the same back isn’t that radical of a concept.
wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 2 days ago
Does that apply both ways? Cause everything I’ve read about modern dating culture is that women can talk to as many men at a time as they want to as long as they’re not exclusives, and if a man doesn’t like that then he’s an insecure chauvinist loser. At least that’s what I’ve been told.
But it’s still not okay for men to talk to multiple women at a time? I’m tired of these double standards.
TAG@lemmy.world 2 days ago
You missed the joke. Obviously, a man is only going to have 0 or (rarely) 1 woman interested in him, but the woman is assuming that he is talking to many women, which is physically impossible.

Once I showed a girl how I track my calories/fitness using a chart. In the side I keep a few sentences on how my day was. You know, hungry, moody, whatever.
I scrolled past 2 week old log and it said had best sex of my life with Rachel, repeatedly all day."
I apologized. Talked with her about how we both adults, I didnt mean to put that in her face but people have sex we are adults and in our 30s.
She was cool…and low key wanted me more. For the first time in my life she sent me pics of her in undies later, unprompted.
Anyway, so thats how I met your mother.
breezeblock@lemmy.ca 2 days ago
Whoah there — talking like adults??
Etterra@discuss.online 2 days ago
If you’re only talking and they get jealous then you dodged a fucking bullet.
Furbag@pawb.social 2 days ago
Yeah, forget about playing dumb or figuring out ways of getting away with it, I’d be like “I dunno, who are you?” so when they tell me I can immediately cut contact with them.
If they play games like this for just texting other women they won’t be mellowing out if you decide to get serious.
Monument@piefed.world 2 days ago
This is why you just be honest.
Look, we’re in modern times.- Act ethically. Keep no secrets.
- Fuck whoever you want, but make sure everyone is on board and in the know.
- You’re the firewall to your sexual network. If your network is one person or a hundred, you verify the status of each new partner before you engage in something that could expose you to risk. (Verify, don’t ask. See the paperwork.)
- Get tested regularly to establish a baseline. The periodicity depends on your risk factors and the size/velocity of your sexual network. Once every 3-4 new people in the network is common in my experience.
And that’s it!
Pro tip: Boundaries end at your body. You shouldn’t tell someone not to be who they are, but you can choose not to accept a relationship style that doesn’t work for you. And vice versa.

Rhaedas@fedia.io 2 days ago

“LOL, why are you texting me while asleep beside me in bed, silly goose!?”
toynbee@piefed.social 2 days ago
All of these responses are suggestions about how to get away with it with varying degrees of cleverness. I don’t mean to be all holier than thou, but one reason I’ve stuck with not lying for decades is that, if you don’t, you needn’t keep track of stuff like this.
AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Hell yeah. Less to try and keep track of. If you only try to tell the truth then you just have to recall events instead of make them up.
In regards to the text, people are surprisingly open if you’re dating around so long as you make that clear upfront. Yes it will turn some people away, but then you can completely avoid situations like this.
toynbee@piefed.social 2 days ago
If I have to mislead someone, I don’t want to be in that situation. Polyamory isn’t my way, but I don’t see anything wrong with it … So long as everyone involved is aware of, and has agreed to, the arrangement.
I haven’t met many polyamorous couples, but of those I have, the primary issue is that one of the parties has agreed under some form of duress. That’s obviously not okay.
My personal philosophy has always been that everyone involved must provide informed consent and no permanent damage, especially physical, may be caused. There will always be outlying concerns, but those are the things that seem to matter to me.
