- Comment on NBA Approves New 3-2-1 Draft Odds 3 days ago:
I still don’t understand why the bottom three teams have worse odds than teams 4-10 from the bottom. Is it a measure to insure that teams that tank only tank a little bit? Even with flat odds for the bottom 10, there is no reason for a team not to start winning once they are out of the play-in. They would want to since it is more interesting for fans and helps with player development.

Used Decks were priced very far above MSRP on Facebook Marketplace a couple weeks ago. I assume that means that the demand is there.
- Comment on How come people get fined for breaking the law and it goes to the state or county? Why doesn't the fine go to the victim or victims? Instead of having to pay restitution just fine them. 1 week ago:
From the one law class I took in college, civil courts are for one person to get reputations from another. Criminal courts are for society to get respirations from a person. A criminal fine is about paying back society because your lack of following the law is making people around you feel unsafe.
The victim of your crime can sue you independently and get additional money from you. I believe they can even use the evidence from the criminal trial and a civil trial is much easier to win.
- Comment on PS5 console sales drop 30% in April after price increase, while Switch 2 dominates 1 week ago:
Handheld computers are competition to the PlayStation in the sense that Sony would want everyone who owns one to buy a PS5 instead but not in the sense that those consumers having an option is hurting sales significantly. I could not find actual numbers, but analysts seem to be estimating that Valve has sold about 6 million Steam Decks in total. For comparison, Sony sold 1.5 million PS5s last quarter, which is devastating since they sold 2.8 million the year before.
Also, that sales gap is going to get worse in the short term. Instead of raising Steam Deck prices or reducing profit margins, Valve has decided to stop selling systems until RAM prices come back down.
- Comment on Jason Kidd out as Mavericks coach after five seasons 1 week ago:
Good riddance. I don’t think I have ever seen a positive news article about him as a person. As a coach, his career highlights seem to be developing Gianis and Luka but never having much team success. I am not saying team owners are overtly racist, but I wonder if he would have had as many coaching opportunities if he was black.
- Comment on What character is the king of plot armor? 1 week ago:
Bink from the Xanth novels. He is a magician who jahcndustbdrmicyd vjsybfkauchd auchwnzkhfmaicybfkaubd w
spoiler
He has a magical ability that prevents him from suffering harm by conjuring impossible coincidences. It also prevents anyone from being told about the nature of the ability or discovering it via magical means.
Also, I am pretty sure he becomes the King of Xanth in one of the later books.

You missed the joke. Obviously, a man is only going to have 0 or (rarely) 1 woman interested in him, but the woman is assuming that he is talking to many women, which is physically impossible.
- Comment on Honestly impressive how pharmacies are able to find a new type of problem every time I go to pick up my meds 3 weeks ago:
With prescriptions, it is not about what the customer wants, it is about what brands the insurance wants to cover (and getting a doctor that does not write a brand specific prescription). If an insurance company only covers a weird brand of a common (but expensive) medicine, the customer either has to hunt for a pharmacy that has it in stock, wait for their local pharmacy to order it (in either case delaying when the insurance company has to pay for it), or buy the in-stock brand without any insurance coverage. The insurance can still claim they cover the drug while paying less for it.
At one point, I was on a medicine that had a very high co-pay for the brand name and would not cover the generic. It was so high that it was cheaper for me to buy the generic uninsured instead of paying the co-pay.
- Comment on Billy Donovan Out as Bulls Coach 5 weeks ago:
Correct me if I’m wrong, but the Bulls don’t have a front office. Presumably, Donovan saw the job requirements for the new front office and decided to move on. I assume that those requirements included things like “trading talent for picks” and “ability to draft well”.
- Comment on Billy Donovan Out as Bulls Coach 5 weeks ago:
According to the article he declined an extension and let his contact expire. The Bulls are saying that they really wanted him to stay with the team but he was not interested.
- Comment on Darwin's Paradox! on Steam - I love games you can finish in a few hours! 5 weeks ago:
A Short Hike lives up to its name. It is a sandbox platformer about a kid exploring a mountain to try to find the one place with cellphone reception. The story seems a bit shallow at the start, but the ending is quite touching.
I beat it in one morning, while stuck in an endless conference call. I did not 100% all of the mini games or complete all of the side quests, but I did finish the main story and (I think) I explored the whole mountain.
- Comment on For people who distrust police / the legal system: If you ran a small bussiness and need to hire people, and someone has a conviction but they claim innocence, do you hire them? 1 month ago:
Sex crimes can be very much a grey area going as far as to convict the victim. For example people that got convicted of child molestation because they were in a teen in a physical relationship with a partner their own age and got caught by their partner’s parents who ran to the police yelling that “my child is pure, innocent, and would never consent to such things!”
Or the person charged with indecent exposure because they were cooking naked not realizing that someone was taking a short cut through the back yard with a child who liked to peak into windows. If I recall correctly, the person was able to get the conviction overturned because they had a very good lawyer who argued the room was only visible from the land the home was on and the homeowner had clearly marked the area as private property. Even then, it was only an appeals court that listened.
I am not saying that most (or even many) sex crime convictions are not justified, but I would at least let someone explain themselves before I totally cast them off.
- Comment on NBA Play-In Tournament, April 14-17 1 month ago:
If Porzingis has a good day, he is hard to stop. If Curry locks in, it is pointless to defend him because his aimbot will curve the ball into the hoop. The Warriors will have a chance to win some games. It is likely that they will get 1 or 2 wins in series and might even win more.
Also, you cannot discount Playoff Fouls Draymond Green. It is possible that he goes off and has a Lamello Ball type game.
- Comment on NBA Weekly Game Thread: Apr 06 - Apr 12 1 month ago:
If the Celtics win or the Knicks lose tonight, the Celtics still secure the 2nd seed and can sit the playoff rotation against the Magic on Sunday.

Coincidentally, Thinking Basketball just posted a video about players playing fewer games. He thinks it is because players are running around the court more and having to make more sudden changes in direction, putting too much wear on their legs.
- Comment on (つ╥﹏╥)つ RIP MY 2026 LAKERS (つ╥﹏╥)つ 1 month ago:
With the Mid-Season tournament and Play-In round, teams are playing more games without extending the season, leading to more back to back games. Players are not getting a chance to rest minor injuries before they get worse. In general, the scheduling seems so bad. One week a team will play 5 road games then the next week they will have 1 game, at home. I don’t like the fact that most back to back games tend to be away games. If the league needs to schedule back to backs, they should be home stands. A team should not be spending the few hours they get off between games traveling.
As for players not playing 82 games anymore, I think it has less to do with players not being able to play and more with teams realizing that it is better to get a couple less wins in the regular season than to enter the playoffs with an exhausted superstar.
- Comment on Playoff Predictions 1 month ago:
As someone who only pays close attention to the Celtics, I am surprised that people expect them to make it to the finals. I am guessing they will get knocked out in the second round or conference finals. They have a lot of wins, but it is because they take care of business against lesser teams. When facing another top team, they fall short. They are 0-2 vs the Spurs, 0-2 vs the Nuggets, 1-2 vs the Knicks, and 1-3 vs the Pistons, though they are 1-1 against the Thunder.
They should be able to dominate a play-in team in the first round but after that, they are going to face strong competition and they have not shown the ability to rise to the occasion.
Obviously, most of those games were without Tatum, but he is not fully back either. His scoring is great but his accuracy is abysmal. He is missing badly on shots he expects to be automatic, likely because coming back from his injury took a toll on his body and he is still getting used to his limits.
- Comment on NBA Presents 3 Anti-Tanking Proposals to Board of Governors 2 months ago:
I like the proposals. Assuming the league defines a “winning team” not as the team that wins a game but as the team that wins the championship (or the Emirates™ NBA Cup), it makes sense that the 10th worst team and worst team have the same lottery odds, since both have a 0% chance of winning. It also makes sense to let play-in teams randomly move up in the draft, since it can pull a team out of endless mediocrity. I don’t like that the 11th worst team is likely going to have much lower odds. I imagine teams that are headed for the 10th seed in their conference will try to tank down in the standings. A 5% chance of getting the first pick in the draft is probably better than getting to be the visiting team in 1-2 playoff games.
- Comment on THE INDIANA PACERS HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED FROM CHAMPIONSHIP CONTENTION 2 months ago:
I have not been following the Pacers this year, but how are they this bad? They made the finals last year. I know that Hali is out for the year, but he doesn’t seem to be a great enough player to turn the worst team in the league into a playoff favorite.
Did I miss the news when they sold off all of their rotation players or is the coach intentionally throwing games?
- Comment on NBA plans to enact anti-tanking rules next season, sources say 3 months ago:
A lot of the Lakers luck has nothing to do with league tampering and everything to do with the fact that players’ licensing income does not count against the salary cap. Do you think a guy would rather make $1,000 shooting an ad for Big Bill’s Discount BBQ or get $5,000 to make an appearance on opening night in Dr. Dre’s new club? Do you think a player prefers to spend his day off shoveling snow from his driveway or go swimming on Venice Beach in the morning and then film a fight scene in the next Fast and Furious? Do you think his wife would rather shop at the mall or Rodeo Drive?
The Lakers don’t get players gifted to them, they sign big name free agents at a discount and trade for expiring contracts knowing that the player will take an extension. They get traded so many players because they are on every players’ preferred list of destinations because every agent makes sure it is there because the agent wants a cut of any Hollywood cameos and rap album features their player gets.
The Pau Gasol trade is a perfect example of this. He did not get traded for nothing. He got traded for his brother, Marc. Pau wanted to get out of Memphis, so the teams made a deal with him: if he could nag his baby brother into moving from the Euroleague to the NBA, Pau would get to win a ring with Kobe.
- Comment on NBA plans to enact anti-tanking rules next season, sources say 3 months ago:
I like the idea of allowing more teams to be draft eligible, since it gives hope to teams stuck in purgatory, not good enough to seriously contend for a title but too good to draft guaranteed talent in the draft.
I don’t like the idea of limiting the lottery eligibility of a team that finishes at the bottom for consecutive seasons (if they are not already ineligible for getting a high pick). It seems like unnecessary cruelty for a team to finish in the basement (because their best players all got old or left in free agency or something), then they lose the lottery despite good odds, and get told that next year they won’t get a good pick either. At that point, the team would have to spend 2 years with a roster of bench warmers.
Hopefully, if there are more strict anti-tank rules, they can get rid of the rules against resting star players. The restrictions are arbitrary and enforcement is random and unpredictable.
- Comment on Performance enhancement 3 months ago:
Yes, actually. Michael Phelps (American swimmer) was rumored to smoke weed so he could get the munchies and consume more food, giving him extra calories to burn training.
It could also be that they were using marijuana as an illicit pain reliever.
- Comment on Trade Deadline Thoughts? 3 months ago:
I don’t understand the Warriors trading for Porzingis. Curry and Draymond (and Butler) are on the wrong side of 35, so their time in the league is coming to an end and injuries are going to keep increasing in frequency. A sensible move would be to build a consistent core that can go on win streaks when the veterans are able to suit up and keep the ship afloat when they cannot. Porzingis is a very gifted and skilled player, but the only thing consistent about him is his ability to find his way onto the injury report.
- Comment on Giannis ready to get traded before trade deadline 3 months ago:
If the Celtics decide to go all in on winning a banner or two and then blowing it up, Giannis for Tatum could work, salary wise. The Celtics don’t have to wait for Tatum to fully recover and avoid the risk of Tatum losing a step due to the injury. Beyond that, Giannis has always been better than Tatum. The big downside is that Giannis is a few years older and has played a lot more professional games.
- Comment on Clippers Send Chris Paul Home 5 months ago:
The important bit is not that Paul was “sent home”, it is that “he will no longer be with the team”. In other words, he is fired.
The team is not “blaming Chris for [their] underperformance,” so there is likely something else going on. Did the Clippers get tipped off about a controversy involving Paul and want him listed as a “former player” in the news story?
- Comment on Suggs tossed, 4 others T'd up in Magic-Sixers tiff 5 months ago:
He did briefly take up a boxer’s stance with his fists raised but dropped it before the shoving started. It was a threatening gesture, but I am sure other players involved made equal threats with their words.
If he actually threw a punch, it would be an ejection.

Not sure why Suggs was the only one tossed. Nothing about his behavior seemed particularly worse than what the others were doing. Maybe it was because he was the last one to let it go?

According to TMZ, Beverly’s underage sister was caught sneaking out to go on a date with a boy. Beverly’s mom called Patrick over to teach the girl a lesson and he beat her half to death.
Looks like the rotten apple rolled back to the diseased tree. I just hope that the poor girl is able to get out of the broken house without too much more physical and mental trauma.

I agree with Green. It is an insult to Angel Reese to be compared to Dray. There should be no tolerance for sexism at NBA games.
- Comment on NBA Europe-based league may launch October 2027 6 months ago:
The article does not explain why the NBA Europe should exist. What does this new league offer not currently provided by European leagues?
Are they going to try to have NBA level salaries, to attract NBA level players, and have high skill games? Are they going to have regular season games between NBA North America and Europe and a promise that the games will be competitive (or as competitive as a game between a Western Conference championship contender and an Eastern Conference lottery tank)?
