    Onion isn’t even a challenge

    source
  • godsammitdam@lemmy.zip ⁨58⁩ ⁨minutes⁩ ago

    Easy.

    No time limit?

Doesn’t say I can’t cook it or pair it with other things?

I’ll have an onion with some chicken and peppers in a nice stir fry over the next couple days.

I expect my rebates in the mail.

Do people really dislike onions that much? Like, I throw diced onions on a ton of different things and usually have to pay for it. I feel like eating a whole onion would just be something I’d do if I was drunk enough and didn’t have anything else in the house.

Protein tip, diced/sliced onion with a little sugar diluted in vinegar is a great refreshing side dish.

That sucks… COVID made onions and garlic taste funny for like 3 weeks and that almost ended me.

Red or white, I love raw onion. The looks of revulsion I get make it that much better, but I do really enjoy them. They were my #1 grazing food, next to cheese when I worked at a pizza shop long long ago.

      • TranscendentalEmpire@lemmy.today ⁨2⁩ ⁨hours⁩ ago

I hope no prejudice, I haven’t eaten an onion that I didn’t like.

        source
    • OwOarchist@pawb.social ⁨2⁩ ⁨hours⁩ ago

Also … it doesn’t say anything about how you eat those. No prohibition against cooking it or adding additional ingredients. No time limit.

Chop that onion up, cook it, and use it in a meal or two, and it’ll be totally fine – delicious even. And I don’t even really like onions.

Shockingly just putting a whole onion in the oven and baking it with no prep, spices or anything is delicious too. It starts to caramelize and it becomes a sweet treat.

Just don’t chew, nibble on it and it’s no issue. Don’t ask me how I know

Are you saying that because you don’t like century eggs or are you just judging by looking?

This post was made by an extra terrestrial species to gather info how many humans would eat its offspring.

The question is at which % they deem humanity hostile and will destroy earth star destroyer fashion.

Im doing my part and would eat the alien egg 🫡

      Piss egg

      source
      • brennesel@discuss.tchncs.de ⁨7⁩ ⁨hours⁩ ago

For anyone wondering if real piss is involved, this is from the Wiki:

There is a misconception that century eggs are prepared by soaking eggs in horse urine, but this is not true. In Thai and Lao, the common word for century egg translates to “horse urine egg”, due to this misconception or due to the eggs’ ammonia odor:

Thai: ไข่เยี่ยวม้า [kʰàj jîaw máː] (RTGS: khai yiao ma)

        Lao: ໄຂ່ຍ່ຽວມ້າ [kʰāj ɲīaw mâː]

Two good choices… I don’t know if I should go with the grub or the century egg… 🤔

    source
  • Nokkelost@lemmy.world ⁨7⁩ ⁨hours⁩ ago

That was fucking easy, I’d eat the raw onion. Second choice is probably the caterpillar, risk here being that I might puke while doing it, but worth a shot. Third is the chilli.

I have no idea what that black egg is and I’m not fucking with whatever that is.

    source
    • Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io ⁨7⁩ ⁨hours⁩ ago

The black egg is a preserved, maybe duck, egg, and they are quite yummy.

      source
    • theedqueen@lemmy.world ⁨4⁩ ⁨hours⁩ ago

The egg is a century egg/tea egg and common in a few Asian cuisines. It’s awesome in rice porridge.

      source
    • fonix232@fedia.io ⁨7⁩ ⁨hours⁩ ago

That's.... not a caterpillar. That's the larvae/maggot of the common cockchafer, as far as I can tell. Otherwise known as Maybug.

The black egg is century egg, a duck or chicken egg preserved in an alkaline solution (usually quicklime, ash, salt and rice hulls). It's not horrible in the way, say, surströmming is, but it an unusual taste and texture that makes most people balk at the idea. Honestly, I'd pick it over even the onion.
