Often times, yes. Because sitting/standing requires less space than walking and that makes up for the extra space of the bus.
I guess walking is like humans being in a gas state, and riding a bus is humans arranging themselves into a solid. But idk what liquid humans would be lol
They can hook up little butt fans to the seats so when you fart they can whisk away your flatus rather than making everyone fester in your stank. I mean they don’t but they can. Like how they do for astronaut ass

A single-story coach has seats for about 50 people. Low-floor city busses a little less, but you can get 50 in there with people standing

The pedestrians are just standing further apart. In the hustle and bustle of a shopping street they might be closer together.

Imagine the amount of mosquitos you could fit if they were inside in the bats’ bellies! They eat like their weight in bugs every night.
Yeah but you have that wasted space where all the bats flesh and bones are, that could be used to fill with more mosquitoes.
What if, to save space over cars but keep the personal comfort, everyone had their own hiding place with entrance hidden by brick and rubble?
People could lay vertically in there hiding pods stacked on each other and we could put wheels on the bottom like those big baking sheet racks in commercial kitchens. But then we would need someone to push them…cue the bats.
You will certainly not regret having 150,000 bats.

For the same reason people like their own apartment or their own house. Other people are awful to be around.

Driving requires you to be constantly alert, and if you screw up or don’t react fast enough, you can straight up die because of it. On a bus, you can be on your phone, read a book, take a nap, whatever. Driving is a much worse experience and even if public transit takes more time, that’s time that can be used doing things. That’s before factoring the cost (the car itself, gas, insurance), the environmental impact, parking, etc.

The bats go dormant during winter. We got about 6 months of that.
And after that - all bats are off.
Replace people with bats!
