I would dress like a kid if they made the cool kids designs in large adult sizes. They have all the best shit. The mens section is a sea of drab, lifeless bullshit.

I’m the exact opposite. Always have been. Everyone has always tried to get me to, “Find my style,” bitch please! My style is nice and boring heather gray, solid black, forest green and gray t-shirts with a pocket, pain relaxed fit wrangler jeans or cargo shorts that go below the knee for biking or to longer events that I don’t want to feel the wind on my knees or exposed in.
Also, when you bike as a dude when you wear something like 6" to 8" inseam for shorts, you’re gonna either be wearing something skin tight where your balls are up against the shorts and I’ve always wondered if there’s a sports cup at play or feel like you’re wearing boxers. Maybe that’s just me. 10" inseam is the shortest I can go and yeah I know I have autism but I can’t relax with anything shorter.

I dress like a background character in a cartoon. Less time thinking about my outfit means more time to do literally anything else.
greedytacothief@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 weeks ago
I’ve worn 5" inseam running shorts for mountain biking sometimes. It’s not so bad bus sometimes you bounce your knee/thigh off the top tube and that can leave a bruise. I usually wear 7" inseam tho.
There are some cycling bibs that have better ball comfort, they will excentuate your package.

I wear colorful men’s clothes. Fun designs on things like short sleeve button shirts in the summer (Hawaiian shirts and similar things), fun sweaters in the winter.
Even my office wear usually has a splash of personality, with the amount of subtlety appropriate for the setting: suits or jackets with interesting textures and weave patterns, neckties with interesting designs, a bright color on my socks. Some settings allow for a bit more expression, and other choices can be more adventurous if you prefer, including intentionally contrasting choices in glasses, watches, shoes, other accessories. Even a pair of headphones can be a fashion accessory, although it is true that women seem to be able to pull that off better.

I mean, SpongeBob’s outfit is khaki shorts, a black belt, high white socks, a white short sleeve button down, and a tie. The men’s section absolutely has all of that.
Kolanaki@pawb.social 3 weeks ago
To clarify, I mean a Spongebob themed outfit. Graphic T, graphic pants, themed shoes and socks. I see a lot of these complete outfit sets in the kids section and I’m always kinda jealous.

Browse through the summer look book of a designer you like. Ralph Lauren, or maybe Drakes are pretty inoffensive and safe bets for a classic look. Both are expensive brands, but you’re only buying inspiration anyway.
My own personal advice, for what it’s worth. Not inclusive of all social situations, but…
If they’re long pants, they’re linen. If they’re short pants, shorter inseams look a little more fashionable than knee length cargo shorts.
If they’re long sleeves, they’re linen. If they’re short sleeves, then something that has a collar.
Shoes are of the boat variety, or sandals.
My uncle says men should never show their bare legs or feet in public, though you should probably decide that for yourself.
mr_satan@lemmy.zip 3 weeks ago
Bold of you to assume I’ve heard of any designer or even know what a summer look book is supposed to be (I guess the name is quite self explanatory).
MountingSuspicion@reddthat.com 3 weeks ago
My mild take is that there’s nothing wrong with that outfit.
You could probably do a non-tshirt top, like a breezy short sleeve button down or more relaxed top. Maybe non khaki colored shorts, but it’s fine as is.

I look at women and they’re so well dressed in so many different and interesting styles. When i look at men they are dressed very plain usually “badly dressed” the ones the are well dressed rarely have an interesting style.
I am thinking more about clothes these days because I want a dress style that i find interesting and I struggle to find the mens equivalent what I see in womens clothing.
Ive never gone to a clothing store and seen wizard robes or anything cool.

I live where we have 3 seasons of summer and about 1.5 months of hoodie weather. There was a freeze and actual snow! spouse took a hoodie, other ones were dirty. I took my wool blanket, folded it in half, and used 3 safety pins to hold it in my shoulders. It looked like this
But in dark gray with sweater, jeans, and my tan work boots. I felt damn cool and people were checking me out. Live your dreams!

It’s an interesting phenomenon, because throughout most of human history it was men who wore (if they could) flamboyant outfits, while women tended to be more demurely dressed. Sexually dimorphic species (ducks, peacocks, etc.) are often similar, with males having vibrant colours. What changed, and why? I’m sure some sociologist has thought of an answer.
Signed, plainly dressed man.

I think the reason is as simple as flamboyant outfits being easily available.
Two hundred years ago, a flamboyant outfit indicated you did minimum manual work. As that’d destroy the drip, and it was also quite expensive. While commoners would wear often brown/grey work outfits.
It’s the same reasons for why it used to be in to be white/pale, as that indicated you’d stay inside all day rather than working the fields. Now it’s in to be tan, as that indicates you’re able to sunbath rather than work in an office all day long

Wisdom Kaye is a male model and he does great videos exploring a more diverse perspective on men’s fashion. It may not be exactly what I looking for, but it’s definitely a fresh new perspective compared to what I see in day to day male fashion.

Would any of his outfits work on the orc body-type? Cuz that’s more or less what I’m working with
StarvingMartist@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
Sure but like he said there’s the whole availability aspect. You go to a kohls, or a Walmart, goodwill even, you’ll see a load of different styles for women. Men get t shirts, shorts, and maybe a jacket
