It’s always funny to see Europeans complain about US hegemony
Anyone else from Europe feels the same while browsing the "All" feed?

If Europeans really wanted more content on .world, they would stop taking month long beach vacations and spend more of their 10 hours workdays shit posting from the company toilet

10 hours?. it’s 8.

Isn’t LW hosted in Europe?
AnyOldName3@lemmy.world 1 month ago
That doesn’t stop Americans signing up with the instance and then dominating all discussion there.

It is.

Why do you hate iOS programming language?
glowing_hans@sopuli.xyz 1 month ago
wait you can mute words on lemmy? that would be cool
enbiousenvy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 month ago
I checked the main default Lemmy UI does not have filters. But my mobile Lemmy client (Eternity) do have.

Apparently only USA speaks English and we should all be speaking German or something to show we’re not American?
Harbinger01173430@lemmy.world 1 month ago

Nobody was complaining about the English language
occultist8128@infosec.pub 1 month ago
Not Europe but I can relate.
finitebanjo@lemmy.world 1 month ago
I think they talk about the USA even more over on ML tbh, but with a difference in connotations.
BenLeMan@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Oh boy, wait until they find out about the World Series of anything.

People use All?
buttnugget@lemmy.world 1 month ago
I do! I need to be more diligent about seeking out new communities and subscribing to them, but I’m an ALL sort kind of person at heart, I guess.
Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 1 month ago
as a person on a smaller instance, yes i like actually seeing things
NewNewAugustEast@lemmy.zip 1 month ago
You are confusing seeing other instances with “ALL”. I just don’t want to see what I am not subscribed to. Curation of all this crap just makes it so much better. And focused for that matter.
ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 1 month ago
Certainly mixes things up compared to Local.
NewNewAugustEast@lemmy.zip 1 month ago
I just go to my subscriptions. Then sort by scaled.

DrSoap@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Its funny cause no one in the US complained about all the brexit stuff a few years ago and we just read about neighboring politics. Shits a mess here rn and its in the news. Calm down people. You’ll have your mess too.
buttnugget@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Europeans are extremely fragile. I love my euro homies, but they are super butthurt about US world dominance.
robocall@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Yeah, I’m guilty. Am American. Migrated to Lemmy when RIF was killed by reddit.

IDK, I never browse All, basically. Funny meme, tho.

Counter-counterpoint:
The first line of the YouTube Wikipedia article is ‘YouTube is an American social media and online video sharing platform owned by Google.’
Google is also American.

Maybe the problem is that in Europe our news are mostly in local languages. So, if I post something I would need to translate. Or one would need to share something from France24 (English), BBC, Euronews (English), etc. But, the content is not as comprehensive as the national newspapers…

I’d argue these are more unsafe for Americans than Europeans, y’all are the ones having to use the death traps.
Zink@programming.dev 1 month ago
Just item #731 on the long list of things that we in the US do objectively worse than the rest of the world, but not badly enough to get into the news or make people want to do anything about it.
Plus, you know, ignorance. If we polled the American public with the question “The US electrical plug design is the best in the world” I think the results would make us all have the same reaction as everything else coming out of the US: Not surprised, but still shocked and disappointed to have the ugly truth confirmed.

I’m in the Middle East, but I feel the same way.
Nangijala@feddit.dk 1 month ago
My condolences. The middle east is a friggin inferno this time of year. Visited a middle eastern country a few years ago and I did not know heat until I spent two weeks in the month of July down there.
Was so fucking relieved when nighttime came and the temperatures lowered to 38C. :'D
I legit don’t know how you guys deal with that heat. I’m in awe.
fozie@lemmy.world 1 month ago
I live in western Anatolia and enjoy the Mediterranean climate. This is one of the most popular tourist destinations for Arabs and Russians. In the eastern part of Turkiye’s Mediterranean region, people sometimes take aim at the sun and shoot because of the heat.

That’s what I’m saying months, especially with US politics and Trump, but I’m only getting downvoted! People upvote Politics and downvotes everything else.
WraithGear@lemmy.world 1 month ago
what? are you laying blame? or just bummed that no other nations news has a critical mass on lemmy to push stories from other nations on the all page? did you expect that to happen? or are you alleging that there is active suppression of other countries news?
tino@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Rarely I see a French post so I have a look but it’s usually random news. French memes are so boring, half of them are about bakery and stuff.
Cracks_InTheWalls@sh.itjust.works 1 month ago
I think there’s a place for a community called ‘epiceriedumemes’, a play on words denoting both variety of content (like an epicerie) and spicyness (epicier).
Then again, it also really invites more bakery memes, so idk.
(Please forgive my lack of accented characters)
zaphod@sopuli.xyz 1 month ago
The french memes on !rance@jlai.lu are more about stuff and less about bakery, but they’re not that active lately.
insomniac199@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Honestly, i won’t have it any other way and im not from the us
commiunism@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 month ago
Yup, though I lowkey prefer it because EU posts tend to attract more Hitlerite takes and comments. There’s just something about other Europeans that make them have an elevated level of nationalism
lemmyknow@lemmy.today 1 month ago

You think you’re better than each other. We know we’re better than all of you.
Is what I would have said ten years ago
BurgerBaron@piefed.social 1 month ago
Nah, Piefed filters are great.
GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 1 month ago
there’s two things I hate. People who are intolerant to other federated instances, and piefed users.
don’t worry, every piefed user will let you know they use piefed. they’re the “arch users” of federated social media.
echodot@feddit.uk 1 month ago
Oh by the way did I tell you I’m vegan.
piefood@feddit.online 1 month ago
Agreed. When I tried Lemmy, it didn't have filters, so that was an immediate no for me. I just don't get the appeal of being fed a list, and not being able to filter out the noise.
MisterFrog@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Hey, some of us just want to have the biggest instance so we don’t have to rely on people subscribing to things. (Australia, I have 2 accounts)
Nangijala@feddit.dk 1 month ago
There is something so ironic about this post xD what about the other continents? I have been told they have people with internet access too xD
pressanykeynow@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Well, there are a lot of penguin posts here.
