- Comment on 'An invasive species': How wallabies took over the Isle of Man 14 hours ago:
In 2023, drone surveys by Manx Wildlife Trust identified 568 feral wallabies in Ballaugh Curragh, a protected marshland area on the Isle of Man.
Just two years later, the population had grown to 1,000 to 1,300, according to estimates from the local conservation charity.
That’s a lot of wallabies for a small island. I know some people think they are cute, and want to keep them around, but invasive species hurt the environment.

I believe most greenlanders are in favor of a slow transition to independence but maybe don’t accelerate that momentum when the US is threatening invasion.

In California, native Americans made acorn porridge. They collected the acorns, shelled and roasted them, ground it into a flour, then leached it because it’s full of bitter tannins, and then they can cook the leached acorn meal into a porridge. It is crazy and multiple steps to get there. Mind blowing stuff.

- Comment on Why do Interstate highways exits post the nearby jail/prison/detention center? 1 week ago:
But there are lots of places that people would like to visit. It’s not like they post libraries, or other government run facilities on freeways. Is there a policy that requires these types of facilities be displayed on the freeway exit sign? I tried to google it without finding the answer I was looking for.
- Comment on Why do Interstate highways exits post the nearby jail/prison/detention center? 1 week ago:
It’s possible it’s a California State level policy.

I’ve seen some prisons with warnings that say “don’t pick up hitchhikers; may be prisoners” but not at most of the places with the freeway sign. Also they note detention centers. I think there must be some policy that mandates the sign.

The kid got a 10% off coupon and doesn’t understand money or that we still have to pay the other 90%. He also won’t give me the coupon so I couldn’t buy his gold if I wanted to.
