This is cool, maybe I can find a crew for Quake 3 instagib freeze tag with grapple hook enabled.
As an aside…If I wanted to host an event like this specifically for fediverse, where should one post it?
Let’s say I pre-pack a portable archive (so Linux users can easily just add the exe to Faugus/Lutris whatever too) for Halo Custom Edition with a bunch of maps and throw a dedi server up for a week as an example.
So not the .world instance which lied about allowing piracy after announcing they would IIRC.

That’s better than my lazy assumption that it had to do with an old trope started in the 1950’s that resurged during the early personal computer age in the form of lightning bolts, stars, smoke, animations shooting out of an instrument to show the intensity of the musician or just a banging song.

They don’t, sadly, and what makes it worse is the endless amounts of religious indoctrination and bullshit media constantly feeding us the narrative that people in general grow and learn over time and become better people, and that sentiment has been internalized at every possible level of society at large, but (as a general rule, nothing is universal) things couldn’t be further from the truth.
I agree with you here of course, quite strongly.
I’m glad my Pop is a badass and taught me how to think and not what to think.
So that’s the thing I think about a lot. How much influence did he really truly have on you vs you both just happening to be like-minded to begin with? Ties in with my thoughts on free will vs determinism too. My belief in a weak mind being born doomed now comes into this picture. But I’m one of those annoying compatibilists because my own father has moved slowly from staunch conservative to centrist over time. Maybe only because I’m his kid, who really knows. I’m 35 and only just got him to finally admit he was pretending to be Christian to stay with my mother. I always suspected.
Here’s where I’m coming from, so the perspective can hopefully makes more sense:
born in a monocultural conservative town 1990 99.5% white people. Seriously I can only remember one black kid in school.
my mother co-founded her own Baptist church.
I wasn’t rebellious, and I even attended youth groups and bible camps regularly.
my 2nd earliest memory I can still recall is fucking surreal: In a public elementary school, the principal lead a morning prayer once a week in the morning gym assembly. Everyone. Everyone stood up student/admin/teacher/janitor. Everyone bowed their heads to repeat the principal’s prayer. Except one of my classmates one day, she remained seated. This blew my mind. I sat down with her, and she gave me a wide grin. Who knows why, but this moment was cemented into my skull surrounded by the overwhelming majority and choosing to sit out of their mindless tradition.
I never at any point believed in any gods, nor was I at any point a conservative. How could this be given the environment I was raised in?
I think it’s simply because I was born with innate critical thinking. I also did not believe what anyone not even my own parents when they told me things at face value. The early internet and the library was where I went to see if something I was told was true or not.
~80% of humans are theists, it’s incredibly sad.

I think they’re born weak too, but both things can be explanations without it being an excuse.
Small town lifer here, the worst children I knew grew up very predictably. IMO, most people don’t really change much at all with age.
- Comment on Synology RAM - a shitpost of its own kind 1 week ago:
Their base hardware besides these upgrades also ballooned in price. It’s beyond a joke for what paltry hardware you get for your money from Synology now. I can and did buy 3rd party ECC RAM for mine. Works fine besides the singular snotty “how dare you” notification you get on a reboot.
In the past sure I would’ve said go for it on “last years model” which had steep discounts during holiday seasons, but they went to shit even before the AI plague.

It’s probably not entertaining to actually make those videos is my bet. He has to torture himself with insanely grindy tasks for many hours to get such unintended outcomes. Some videos, the payoff isn’t very good. I imagine there’s a lot of games he plays for days trying to break things and nothing comes of it worthy of a new video.

Did they update the game enough to make the last third any good? From what I heard this one was heavily front loaded and got worse the further you progressed including bugs, voice acting dropping off.

- Comment on REANIMAL | Release Trailer 2 weeks ago:
Roommate and I played the demo and really enjoyed it. We’ll play when the game is on sale, the other negative reviews are about the price when it’s only 4 hours long and I agree it’s too expensive for what it is.
- Comment on Star Wars: Galactic Racer - Gameplay Trailer 2 weeks ago:
Prequel movie interest or opinion doesn’t matter, the first game on N64/Dreamcast/PC was incredible regardless. I replayed recently and it’s still good. Love the damage model/repairing and being able to buy used parts from the junkyard, and maybe controversial but I vastly prefer Racer handling and course design to Wipeout.
I didn’t watch the Disney stuff at all and won’t, potentially this scratches the same itch. I hope so anyways. I couldn’t get into the PS2 sequel so it’s possible to disappoint.

First off, here’s a big list of unofficial ports:
https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/List_of_unofficial_ports
Dhewm 3 for Doom 3. Just updates the game engine to run better on modern hardware since id tech 4 is open source. Mod support sort of, not every mod is compatible. They helpfully list those that do here: https://dhewm3.org/mods.html
The Sims 2 High DPI patch, self explanatory: https://github.com/lah7/sims2-4k-ui-patch
VCMI - Heroes of Might and Magic 3 open source engine/game extension. Has a built in mod manager, really handy: https://vcmi.eu/
Coming soon / WIP: I’m excited to play this port of the MS-DOS game Albion when it reaches feature parity with the original:

I’ll still buy from principled indie devs any day any year. There may be more old games than anyone could play in a single lifetime but let’s be real most aren’t good.
- Comment on Why do you need a launcher? (asking older gamers actually) 4 weeks ago:
I don’t. I was still buying physical releases and renting games from my local video stores until both things died out against my will.
Steam is convienent for the services they provide.
Since the USA is turning to shit, I try to buy from stores outside USA now so GOG is increasingly seeing more of my money. Let’s say Valve falls off or goes to shit after Gabe dies: I’m a skilled pirate so whatever.
Mostly I’m Ambivalent but kinda apathetic about launchers because I can just go and find whatever I potentially lose again elsewhere. A self educated privilege combined with grey morality I suppose. Or a resignation to an ever worsening reality I was born into without my say.
