I wish God was real so it could be ashamed of what it’s created.

Don’t ya just hate it when people make their harmful kink both their entire personality, and a problem for good your fundamental rights? It feels weird to say it. But that’s basically what this performative Christian schtick is for people like this. They get off in it so now it’s all of our problem.
abbadon420@lemm.ee 3 weeks ago
If you put it like that, it almost sounds like we should just let them enjoy their relationship the way they want. Be it not that they are probably actively trying to force everyone into their lifestyle. Which is not okay

I refuse to believe anyone is this stupid.
CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 weeks ago
I’ve met these women. They aren’t stupid, per se. They don’t want to “think”. They just want to live their simple life, doing whatever their husband or kids want.
They don’t want to think about the world. Just their world.
But think about this for a second.
It’s the conservative mindset: “The world doesn’t affect ME so why should I care? I’m not being oppressed so everything is fine!”
ToadOfHypnosis@lemm.ee 3 weeks ago
This is it. Conservatives are predominantly people with little to no empathy. That’s why they change their tune the moment things affect them.
Jhex@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I’ve met these women. They aren’t stupid, per se. They don’t want to “think”. They just want to live their simple life, doing whatever their husband or kids want
And they can, but they want everyone else to live like that as well
Etterra@discuss.online 3 weeks ago
They’re also brainwashed by the “Christian” patriarchal model. Which is literally “do what your husband tells you” and “don’t listen to outside opinions, just think and do what the church tells you.” The whole stupid thing is engineered to reinforce authoritarianism.
idiomaddict@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Oh my god, that’s what I want too. I would love to have a garden and a nice kitchen and just concentrate on my little world. I’m just not selfish enough to fully abandon everything that’s not in my little bubble.
The wanting isn’t the problem, doing it with no thought for anyone else is.
ysjet@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I would argue that this sort of nonsense DOES make them stupid.

I have a friend whose sister was like this, but Eastern European. The man makes all the decisions and women are baby makers and dishwashers.
A couple years after the quick marriage she hates being married, him, but doesn’t want to leave because of her values so she’s incredibly depressed.
Quill7513@slrpnk.net 3 weeks ago
man that’s so sad. how far the amazonians who scared the romans shitless have fallen when even eastern european women are trad-wifin’ it. and what’s sad is that the way she gave up her dignity is she was convinced since birth by people who were convinced since birth that she had no dignity in the first place. it’s possible to cherish your children and to take joy in home tasks without treating it like its your only value
Almacca@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I don’t.
notarobot@lemm.ee 3 weeks ago
Agree. I have to assume this is satire.
peereboominc@lemm.ee 3 weeks ago
If not fake, she should also stop having an opinion because that is not for women as per her own logic
MBech@feddit.dk 3 weeks ago
I’m simply fucking baffled how they think their opinion matters in any fucking way, when they advocate for christofascism. They want every other woman to be breeding cattle, but expect themselves to be allowed opinions? Fuck outta here.
El_Scapacabra@lemm.ee 3 weeks ago
To be fair, if they actually had an opinion of their own I doubt they would say shit like this. This is just mindless repetition of the misogynist crap the men around them have fed them. Zero critical thought.
Inaminate_Carbon_Rod@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I left Reddit because everything seemed so fake.
If true, this is fucking terrifying.

I mean, all the events leading to trump winning the first time seemed far fetched… and the second time… insane. Honestly it was over half way into the 2016 general that I realized… oh shit this isn’t just a meme and a joke of people ironically saying they support this lunatic, there’s actually enough serious supporters that he could win.
JackGreenEarth@lemm.ee 3 weeks ago
She had a husband when she was 18?

Dating a 16 year old at 37… I’m 38, and that repulses me deeply. They are kids.
hemmes@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago

figjam@midwest.social 3 weeks ago
I celebrate only half of the Trump supporters in a household voting. Go queen! Don’t get old or uppity now!
Remember_the_tooth@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
They still submit ballots. Guess who filled them out?
Almacca@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I wonder if she’ll feel the same way in ten years time.
Formfiller@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
By then she will be locked up in El Salvador for “hysteria” and replaced with a sex robot
Overconfidentiality@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 weeks ago
Well until they actually repeal women’s suffrage this actually works in our favor weirdly enough. You’d think they’d be pushing their wives and daughters to vote, or to get to vote for them. How long til they propose family voting where they can “vote” for their kids.
Tower@lemm.ee 3 weeks ago
Unfortunately, the “voting for your kids” idea is already in their heads.

Pretty sure if I voiced views like repelling the 19th Ammendment to my wife, she would slip estrogen into everything I ate or drank.
Hard to do that while rocking a C-cup.
kittenzrulz123@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 weeks ago
I support equal rights can she please slip estrogen into my food anyway :3
(For very cis reasons ofc)

She has a point though. There should be a minimum amount of reason to be allowed to vote. Some people shouldn’t be allowed to vote, because if they do, this is what happens.
Tuxman@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
I understand the sentiment, but it’s a very surface level reasoning.
The deeper issue is that as soon as you decide one group can’t vote, then the can has been opened and now it’s easier to add more groups to it. And one day a political party gets to power that decides YOU are in a group it doesn’t like.
Like in certain countries: you CAN present your candidacy for elections…. BUT… it makes you an enemy of the president, and enemies get thrown in jail.
Sidyctism2@discuss.tchncs.de 3 weeks ago
i dont think you really get the whole “democracy” thing
tux0r@feddit.org 3 weeks ago
I don’t think you really understand my comment.
whyNotSquirrel@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
Or maybe we should be voting for ideas and not candidates ? And candidates should be defending those ideas, but it shouldn’t be associated to the candidate on the bulletin
Things like: me as a poor person should be paying more taxes and Elon musk should not pay any.
Me as a mexican immigrant should be deported
I should not have access to health system!
…
grue@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Actual literacy test (to decide if you have the “minimum amount of reason to be allowed to vote”) used in Louisiana in 1964:
You may think restrictions on voting sound good in theory, but that’s the kind of shit you get in practice because of the kind of shit people who end up writing the rules.
Deceptichum@quokk.au 3 weeks ago
A simple religious test could work - Are you religious: Y/N?
tux0r@feddit.org 3 weeks ago
Nothing’s wrong with religion. I don’t believe that Buddhists automatically make an objectively worse choice than atheists.
prex@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
There are two things in the world I can’t stand: people who are intolerant of other people’s cultures… and ~~ the Dutch~~ smug atheists.
grue@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Exactly: voting should only be done by proper God-fearing Protestant Christians! Disenfranchise those heathen atheists! \S
LoreleiSankTheShip@lemmy.ml 3 weeks ago
There should be at least a reading comprehension test for people to qualify to vote. Even better would be a media literacy and critical thinking test before election season even starts
Comrade_Spood@slrpnk.net 3 weeks ago
This was literally used as a way in the south to prevent black people from voting. Yall failed history, maybe you shouldn’t vote. Or maybe we should remember laws that restrict rights tend to affect more than their target and will be used in bigoted ways, and so we just shouldn’t restrict people’s rights and shouldn’t give anyone the power to restrict others.
EmptySlime@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 weeks ago
The right to vote shouldn’t be restricted in any way. If you have legal restrictions then all it takes is bad actors expanding those categories and sorry, you just failed the critical thinking test because you think that climate change is real and life doesn’t begin at conception. Better get ready for your shift at Amazon, serf.
Media literacy and such should just be part of the education everyone gets.

Reminds me of one of my college teachers Years ago, they was racist and misogynistic, thinking blacks should be slaves and women should be house wife’s. She was very interesting black last… At least she didn’t check any of my assignments and gave me a A+

Absolutely. That wall is going great I’ve heard, 9 years out and looking promising as ever
daellat@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago

zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
He delivered on all of his terrible promises.
barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 3 weeks ago
Yeah he’s making great progress on 10 years of working on the greatest, most perfect health care plan of all time. Last I heard, he actually had progressed to having “concepts of a plan.”
From what I understand, according to an ex-congressman Alan Grayson, the concept of the Republican health care plan is:
-
Don’t get sick
-
If you get sick, die quickly.
The hang up now is working on ways to make #2 more efficient.
-
zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
I don’t follow you. Trump’s delivering on his promises, so women shouldn’t vote?
pineapplelover@lemm.ee 3 weeks ago
First election when she was of age to vote?
She got a husband at 18?
McNasty@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
Could have been 17 at the last election, that’d stretch it to 21 maybe.
boolean_sledgehammer@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago

MehBlah@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Thats a man babe.
Catchmeifyoucan@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
And to think that this was the first election when she was even of age to vote…
So she sounds very young and very naive… I don’t want to jump to conclusions or make too many assumptions. But it may be a blessing that she is self-aware that she isn’t politically proficient.
peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 3 weeks ago
You know I was going to joke about describing the rest of her, but reading this is too gross.
HeyJoe@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
You gotta love that she was convinced not to vote. You would think why waste an extra vote for your guy? Then I realized it’s because they will never fully believe a word she says, and instead of risking her voting for the other side, they feel more comfortable just having her silenced.
ArtemisimetrA@lemm.ee 3 weeks ago
This is crazy in the context of having just finished the Native Tongue trilogy by Suzette Haden Elgin. Great read or listen, describes the world this person imagines.

🤨
fastestMango@lemmy.ml 3 weeks ago
I mean, if this is your thinking logic, maybe she shouldn’t vote indeed
Remember_the_tooth@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Her husband is voting for her, with her own ballot. That is, he is voting twice. We shouldn’t encourage this.
Serinus@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
One of the negatives of mail on voting that people don’t want to acknowledge. (Because mail in voting good, and everything must be black and white.)
