I wouldn’t say it’s against my will. I willingly read it, but it’s more out of morbid curiosity. The more you look, the more you realise it’s not just stupidity; it’s fundamental, generational, institutionalised stupidity that was there pretty much from the start. It’s fascinating in a multi-car pile-up kind of way.
Australian politics is so dull in comparison, which is much more preferable to actually live with.

Criminy!

Not a criticism. Just a fact.
- Comment on Why are the Populist Right Surging in Australia? 2 weeks ago:
It may not be about hate, but they often go hand in hand. Fear of change and The Other often breeds hate.
- Comment on Why are the Populist Right Surging in Australia? 2 weeks ago:
And being a hate filled conservative isn’t annoying?
- Comment on Criticism of Benjamin Netanyahu may be an offence under Australia’s new hate speech laws, Greens claim 2 weeks ago:
Is that the same Benjamin Netanyahu with an arrest warrant out for him for crimes against humanity from the ICC?
- Comment on Labor’s hate speech laws set to pass as Ley and Albanese cut deal on bill crafted in wake of Bondi terror attack 2 weeks ago:
In this case, like the social media ban, it’s more likely chucked together in a panic with no forethought. Reactive politics at it’s finest.
- Comment on Australia to form royal commission into antisemitism after Bondi mass shooting 4 weeks ago:
They wouldn’t be able to afford it once it’s a Trump resort anyway.

Maybe they should all move there permanently then.

Or hitting the accelerator instead of the brake and ploughing through a wall. :)

They could probably do a whole special just of Camry drivers as well.

I can’t believe the Eurovision Song Contest is even still a thing people give a fuck about.

- Comment on With the Social Media Ban coming in next month what's the plan? 2 months ago:
Thanks. The only one of those I currently use is YouTube, and all they have to do to verify my age there is to look at the age of my account. Hopefully that’ll be enough. Otherwise, they can accept my anonymised digital driver’s licence.
- Comment on Julia Gillard endorses Donald Trump 3 months ago:
Australians are not a serious people.
I disagree. We take humour very seriously. :)
I say leave the satire tag off. I was looking askance at it until I read that second sentence which made it pretty obvious even without the Chaser link. If any non-Aussies don’t know the history between Gillard and Rudd, they’re free to look it up. And people eating the onion is always funny.

Republicans really can’t just mind their own fucking business, can they?
- Comment on Dibber dobber Donny: Trump tattletales on TV reporter 4 months ago:
Trolling Trump would be pretty funny. It’ll never happen though.
- Comment on Dibber dobber Donny: Trump tattletales on TV reporter 4 months ago:
Oh I definitely think he’s been a net positive, and significantly better than the alternative. I just don’t think he’ll have the guts to call out Trump’s bullshit to his face.
The social media laws are appalling, though. You’d expect that nonsense from the likes of Dutton, but I guess all governments are pro-surveillance state when you get down to it.
- Comment on Australians too dependent on government, says Sussan Ley 4 months ago:
I love how unelectable she’s making herself.

I’m sure Albanese will be as milquetoast and ineffective as he usually is.
- Comment on ABS decision to reuse biased, coercive Census religion question puts human rights in the spotlight 5 months ago:
Regrettably, the ABS backed down following a media campaign by the Catholic hierarchy — who wanted to keep the question as it was, to ensure comparable data with past Censuses — and following the Albanese Government’s intervention on the Census design just days out from the large-scale test.
I do wonder what the problem is when there’s a ‘No religion’ option, though.

The worst thing about this guy getting beaten up was that it had nothing to do with his actions at DOGE. It was just some random muggers.
- Comment on Ah minthi spikchur anadón likit 5 months ago:
I daresay it was a book sold in America for ‘English Pronunciation’, or something, but it definitely spells out an American accent, which is understandable. Not sure why the person in the post feels so called out by it, other than ignorance of one’s own accent.
I always kind of enjoy reading spelled out accents as a literary exercise. Pratchett was great at it with the Mac Nac Feegle, for e.g., and wasn’t that James Joyce’s whole thing?
- Comment on Ah minthi spikchur anadón likit 5 months ago:
That’s easy for you to say.
- Comment on Ah minthi spikchur anadón likit 5 months ago:
I like to troll Americans occasionally by calling American English ‘English (simplified)’.
