- Comment on Our first look at the Steam Machine, Valve’s ambitious new game console 1 day ago:
It looks cool, but to me, if it’s not being offered for around $500, then it’s just a pc replacement in my eyes. From the questions he asked, it definitely seems like it’s going to cost more than $800.
Good timing though, get your system out first before the next generation starts releasing at the end of next year or 2027. From what I have seen, the first to release generally does the best.
My problem seems to be how much it talks about the ps5. It’s been 5 years, so of course, better hardware can fit into smaller space. My problem with that is generally any hardware that compacts it this much will run into heating issues a few years into owning it so I would absolutely prefer the bigger ps5 anyday which has shown no issues so far. Also, they were comparing it to the ps5 alot which is a 5 year old system. I would hope it does significantly better!
I also would like to know more about the OS. Is it just the steam deck OS slapped on this, or is it customized more? I would want/hope they deliver the things that a console offers and more that make it more convenient than just a PC.
Overall, I am interested in this, but if it really does costs as much as I think it will, I am not sure who this will ultimately be marketed to, and I could be wrong, but I doubt it will sell enough for them to say it was a success lets make more. They do have the money to throw at it though, so I guess that was enough for them to take a stab at it after the success of the steam deck.

Miss, your shirt has a slur on it. Which one is it? Um, it’s all of them.

As someone who never saw Instagram before yesterday, I was a little shocked at just how much crap was AI generated and just useless fake content. I kept hearing how bad AI was, but until I saw just how bad I really had no idea. I imagine reddit is getting closer to this exact model soon enough.
- Comment on People who don't wear earphones outside - why, and what do you do instead? 2 days ago:
As someone who loves music and listens to it every chance I get, I honestly never got into using headphones and walking. It just doesn’t feel right to me. I am also very attentive to my surroundings, and if I feel like I don’t know what’s exactly going on, I really don’t like that feeling. It may also be a generational thing? Im in my 40s, and the headphone market was a bit different 20 years ago when I was younger, and none of that really appealed to me. I never even had an iPod, I owned a zune lol.

I have been self hosting since 2008. Went through around 7 different apps since then, and I am currently using Navidrome, which is a fork of Subsonic with the android phone app Symfonium. For a while there self hosting looked pretty bleak around 2020, but it seems to have found a resurgence which I love because the development has been big again leading to more modern looking players and a lot of great new functionality.

I only used Spotify briefly years ago. I had no idea you could actually block the audio ads they send you? That’s pretty cool if so.

I agree, but it definitely costs more, lol. It’s still worth it. I live in an area with a lot of power outages so we lose internet a bunch. No problem i got everything still available!
- Comment on Never buying milk from Walmart again 2 weeks ago:
I just had one where I didn’t use it at all for a few weeks, and it was a few days past the expiration date. This may help, but it wasn’t opened yet. My wife was like, “Throw it out!” And I was like no ill take the risk. Decided to have cereal the next morning and was pleasantly surprised it was perfectly fine and was able to use it all within the next 3 days.
Then again, I have had times where i just got it, and 2 days later, it was super gross. Here’s looking at you stop and shop store brand milk… got burned twice like that, and I have never purchased it again. I hate that store so much.
- Comment on What's your answer? And in the picture which news story is being reported? 2 weeks ago:
Not really sure. Only thing I can think of is it was just that big and since the internet really wasnt that big yet this was an easy way to tell everyone. It was really big news for some reason.
- Comment on If you don't understand it instantly you will never get it 2 weeks ago:
Wow, this posts comments make me feel old… I expected to see everyone getting it. Seeing only 1 comment that says it is crazy. Not only was it a huge classic rock song, but it was also featured in at least a few iconic movie scenes.
- Comment on Are you even old enough to remember number 1? 2 weeks ago:
11 because I was still super young and got my first real job at age 22, and it was still an era when cell phones weren’t requirements, and my parents absolutely weren’t paying for them yet. Felt super cool getting such a crazy phone, but the appeal rubbed off quick once I got those on call calls at 3am…
- Comment on What's your answer? And in the picture which news story is being reported? 2 weeks ago:
Although I lived through others I think I was to young to remember them or caring. So for me it was the OJ trial since they legit announced it overhead at our school which was weird thinking back on it. After that would be 911.
- Comment on And what car did you learn in? 2 weeks ago:
Learned it from the beginning. It was my first car. Wanna say it was a late 80s or very early 90s really basic Ford Mustang that my aunt sold to my parents for me to use for like $200 bucks. I loved it, but not even a year later on my way to high school a van flying down the road rear ended me while I was trying to make a left turn waiting for traffic to clear… I haven’t had stick shift since.
Here’s a pic of around what it looked like so you can see it was a very basic car back then or this model was super basic haha.
- Comment on PC Master Race 2 weeks ago:
I brought the ps5 around when it released. At the time, prices for pc parts were crazy. I decided to get the ps5 due to that, and it was a solid choice at the time. I was finally able to build a PC near the end of 2023 when prices dropped. I wanted a higher end one, so it still cost me around 2k. I love both of them.
As for the exclusives, there were some and even timed ones to me count a little. I played god of war, horizon, and final fantasy rebirth and 16 day one. I also enjoyed astro bot and its follow up, spider man miles, racket and clank, last of us 2, and ghosts of tsushima. Im still on tbe fence of getting ghosts of yotei, but it’s also a limited exclusive. You also have upcoming games like Marvels Wolverine, Intergalactic: the heretic project, and knights of the old republic. Its getting to be less and less, but i also think it has a lot to do with how long it takes for a game to come out on top of not forcing games as much as they used to.

They will be the same people who say, “I only spent a little bit more than a console, but look how much better it is. What’s the point of a console anymore?”

Dang, I missed that. Honestly, I haven’t looked much at humble in years. If thats what they are still pushing, then I will definitely start following again. Thanks for the heads up.

I used to do humble years ago, then I remember something changed and the selections were never that good. It’s been a while since I found one worth buying. I also fo Epic every week. I have been for about 3 or 4 years now.
- Comment on 2 weeks ago:
These days? I dont mind it. With the offering of the 3 games a month, it’s been fine. As someone who’s gotten old and barely plays anything, it’s nice only spending the yearly subscription and getting up to 36 games a year. Sure, not all are great, but there have been plenty of big games offered that let me play the big stuff I missed and probably still wouldn’t pay $20-$30 for.

Ahh, yeah, it can be crowded. We made that mistake the first year and went the week before school in the south starts. The last 2 we did it the week after they go back, like the 3rd week in August, and its been pretty dead. This year especially, and I have a feeling it was even less because people are cutting back as well due to the struggles.
I think things have changed. We don’t really drink when with the kids, and we really didn’t see much where it was out of control anywhere. I do agree you gotta watch the areas you go to, especially at night. Different generations, I feel like those times are over these days, haha.
- Comment on Catch of the day 3 weeks ago:
Total gas cost for round trip was 2 fills each way, so just under $200. There’s also tolls that are pretty expensive these days, but I would say they still bring the total under $300 for 4 people to travel. Of course, I should double this cost since im going twice as far if I do decide to take the plunge.
Just curious what was so bad that you hated the beach? When I grew up the only place my parents took me was Williamsburg VA like 6 years in a row. It got old but looking back i appreciate it. I also hate the beach, I never really enjoyed it and would rather do just about anything else, but the wife loves it, and the kids seem to as well, so I hold my breath, lol. It also seems like the easiest solution for smaller kids.
- Comment on Catch of the day 3 weeks ago:
Thanks, I see some cool options there. I’ll check it out some more. Only other problem is myrtle beach is about the extent of driving south with 2 kids. Its a little over 10 hours. Flying may work, but it does cost more.
- Comment on Catch of the day 3 weeks ago:
Wow, our family has gone 3 times now in the past 5 years. It’s always been great for us. As someone trying to get the cheapest vacation with the most value, this was really the only spot to go. Sure, the hotel rooms were not the greatest, but they had on-site watersides, kids’ pools, lazy river, and multiple indoor and outdoor pools with hot tubs. Beach was just past that. Idk where you’re from, but for someone in NJ, there is nothing that I have found that offers anything like that from here all the way down. Entire week was like $1700. If I wanted a hotel half as good here, it’s like $4k to 5k for the same week. The only complaints I have are some sketchy areas to be avoided, but we got the same problems up here. They are all tourist traps, but I would rather spend the least to give my kids a decent time. Also, the beach is way nicer than NJ!
Maybe one day I’ll have some extra money to go somewhere else…

Back in high school we knew a kid who wasnt the brightest but I guess I didnt fully understand how bad that was until a question was asked about dinosaurs and he really believed they existed around 1000 years ago. When you get information like that from someone, it changes things.
