They sue and go after emulation projects/ROM sites for modern content just as much as Microsoft and Sony do, MS/Sony just get a pass for some reason. Probably because people try to pirate current-gen content less for them, but they do the exact same thing every time it happens. Also, it must be said that several times that emu/ROM sites were shut down and Nintendo was blamed it turned out it wasn’t actually Nintendo. Same thing with that whole streaming copystrike issue- turns out it was some random company taking down gameplay videos, not Nintendo.
-
Sony already does this too, yet again they pretty much universally get a pass for making you permanently lose almost all (if not all) your stuff if you let your sub lapse. Even if you resub, you don’t get it back.
-
In my opinion this is just a bad faith argument. Of course they’re not putting their games on PC, they would cannibalize their own sales. Trying to pretend that you should boycott Nintendo for not actively destroying their own economic model is certainly A Take.
-
Entirely fair. My understanding is that they’re getting better at this, but after the shitshow that was brawl that’s a low fucking bar. I could point out that smash bros isn’t actually Nintendo (it was HAL, then Sora, then Bandai) but like… lets be real here, it’s Sakurai running the show, and Sakurai basically is working for Nintendo even if he isn’t employed there lol.

So what are those reasons, that make you think people should boycott Nintendo and not other companies, then?
Because I suspect most of them are not as legitimate as you might be thinking, and now I’m curious.

There’s also just a substantial number of people that were just astroturfers, I think.
There’s been a LOT of crazy attacks on the switch 2 to try to ‘justify’ a boycott. I think my two favorite was that the gamechat button noise when you hit is actually saying saying a slur, or maybe that the rumble turns off after a while not to protect your hands from the rumble (which has been found to be bad for you), but because Nintendo cheaped out on a rumble motor that overheated too easily.
The switch 2 joycons don’t have a rumble motor. Like, it’s a whole thing they’re super proud of, because it’s so precise they just use the rumble really fast to play music instead of having a speaker.
Honestly, the whole idea of trying to boycott nintendo has pretty much always been over astroturfed bullshit.

Nope, it’s a real thing. Granted, I mostly see it used when a meeting ends 30-40 minutes early.

Yes, you’re overreacting.
It sounds to me like you’re hoping this is a “good enough” excuse to not have to drive, and unfortunately, you very likely live in an area where that is not an optional skill set.
Look up learned helplessness- and then decide if you want that to be you.

The difference is that none of those characters had their stories wrapped up.
Geralt’s story was wrapped up in Witcher 3. That was the whole point.

The point is still that most people, even most journalists or politicians, don’t have those protections. Fact is, a lot of top politicians and journalists don’t have those protections which is literally why we have politicians getting arrested for protesting against the El Salvador prisons and then going after comey.
And leave personal attacks out of it.

Amazingly enough, there are more people in the world than the rich, famous, or powerful. Most people do not have that “wealth of powerful advocates.”
Those people also deserve the rights you’re so callously ignoring.

Ah yes, because this administration is SO good about providing people with due process.
- Comment on Oof 1 month ago:
The point is that you DIDN’T make a choice, because you were colluded against. Why so much focus on honoring your agreement, when they aren’t honoring their agreements?
- Comment on Oof 1 month ago:
You’re missing the part where, because of federal interest in schooling loans (because the government wants a well-educated population, typically), you have a captive market with colluding loan companies that abuse said federal interest to jack up education prices and interest rates. In other words, you don’t have an option but to accept the ‘terms’ of the predatory loans unless you don’t go to college… except the federal government wants you to go to college.
So student loan forgiveness is basically the federal government yanking the collusion back and going “no, they pay off the loan and a REASONABLE AMOUNT OF DEBT, and the rest of the absurdity you’re trying to shovel gets canceled because it should have never been tried in the first place.”
And then conservatives whine and cry about their tax money going to 'paying off student loans" because conservatives are idiots that can’t comprehend why a rich person would lie to them.

You’re getting down votes from astroturfers, idiots, and kids who can’t handle attacks on their precious favoritist little game, but you’re right, palworld has zero leg to stand on here and they’re lucky their company even still exists with the sheer scale of blatant theft going on. But DAE Nintendo bad hurr hurr?

- Comment on Nintendo Maintains Nintendo Switch 2 Pricing, Retail Pre-Orders to Begin April 24 in U.S. 2 months ago:
Series S is $299 here, unless you’re getting used. PS5 digital is hardly apples to oranges, considering the Switch 2 isn’t offering a cartridgeless version.
I also like your arguement about the switch 2 somehow being lesser because it’s going to get scalped, very pointedly ignoring the PS5-shaped scalper elephant in the window. I guess I spoke too soon in the other post- you didn’t manage to delete all examples of cutting Sony and MS a break, you’ve got one right here!
As for the price, sony and microsoft charge $70 for a standard edition game, but also often incomplete and requiring extra money from ‘DLC’ or ‘premium/deluxe’ editions to actually be properly playable/have the baseline plot/lore.

- Comment on Nintendo Maintains Nintendo Switch 2 Pricing, Retail Pre-Orders to Begin April 24 in U.S. 2 months ago:
The reason I think it’s astroturfing is because there’s a lot of people who are critical of Nintendo, while simultaneously giving Sony and Microsoft a free pass for doing the exact same thing, or even just making things up outright to bash Nintendo, like your claims that it’s ‘hardware that is long in the tooth at launch.’
- Comment on Nintendo Maintains Nintendo Switch 2 Pricing, Retail Pre-Orders to Begin April 24 in U.S. 2 months ago:
Then what exactly are you expecting? The market for new consoles is currently: Switch 2: $449 Xbox Series S: $299, four years old, less powerful than the switch 2 Xbox Series X: $499, four years old, more expensive, same resolution/fps, more powerful (tflops) than switch 2, 15.7x the size PS5: $499, five years old, more expensive, same resolution, more fps, more powerful than switch 2 but less than series x (tflops), 24x the size
The switch 2 was positioned, and announced, as a portable console capable of similar power levels as one console generation ago, and it overdelivered- the common comparison is that it’s more powerful than a PS4. For a handheld, that is absurdly good, and the price is certainly in line with the rest of the market. The literal only outlier is the Series S, which it’s supposedly more powerful than.
- Comment on Nintendo Maintains Nintendo Switch 2 Pricing, Retail Pre-Orders to Begin April 24 in U.S. 2 months ago:
… It’s using modern hardware, with specs that are entirely reasonable for being a handheld. The fuck are you expecting, a ps6 that you stick in your pocket for $200?
- Comment on Nintendo Maintains Nintendo Switch 2 Pricing, Retail Pre-Orders to Begin April 24 in U.S. 2 months ago:
Honestly I just have to wonder if it’s not astroturfing, or the results of astroturfing.

Lmao outrageously priced. It’s higher than it was, yes, but I remember the PS3 announcement.
Now THAT was outrageously priced!
$950 for the 60gb model after inflation!

You’re not being silly, and it is wrong. Just because ICE is bending over backwards to drag people into this shit doesn’t make it right, and you shouldn’t fall for their gaslighting and normalization. It’s wrong, and you should feel confident in calling out how fucking absurd this shit is.
- Comment on Please choose one 2 months ago:
Thje problem is more that they tend to get WAY MORE hate for way less stuff.
Like, blizzard literally had a woman commit suicide because she thought she was going to be used as a sex slave. Yet Nintendo gets more shit than blizzard does, because Nintendo doesn’t want you pirating their games.
Like, bruh, priorities. I know it’s not a zero sum game, but god damn.
- Comment on Anon fixes their games 3 months ago:
I feel like depth of field and motion blur have their place, yeah. I worked on a horror game one time, and we used a dynamic depth of field- anything you were looking at was in focus, but things nearer/farther than that were slightly blurred out, and when you moved where you were looking, it would take a moment (less than half a second) to ‘refocus’ if it was a different distance from the previous thing. Combined with light motion blur, it created a very subtle effect that ratcheted up anxiety when poking around. When combined with objects in the game being capable of casting non-euclidean shadows for things you aren’t looking at, it created a very pervasive unsettling feeling.
- Comment on FromSoftware didn’t want Sony to publish Dark Souls as it was ‘disappointed’ by how Demon’s Souls was treated 4 months ago:
Nintendo doesn’t “personally” do anything. They are a corporation. lol. lmao, even.
Just off the top of my head they bought Monolith from Bandai-Namco and Bayonetta has been exclusive ever since the second one. Monolithsoft was three separate offices- Nintendo bought two of them, which were both already working exclusively as a Nintendo second party, and the third was dissolved during the Bandai-Namco merger due to the fact that Namco was treating them like shit after Nakamura retired and the merger was the last straw. Monolithsoft is one, if not the only, exception to Nintendo staying out of buying companies, and Iwata has even commented on it only happening because Sigiuira basically asked them to, and it not being something they want or like to do.
As for Bayonettas since 2, Nintendo’s publishing it for PlatinumGames, who used to be a Nintendo second party. They started working with Sega in 2008 iirc because Nintendo literally pointed Sega their way (This is the same time period when Nintendo was giving Sega work to try to dig them out of their hole, e.g. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games). My understanding is that internally Nintendo still considers PlatinumGames a second party dev, despite Sega publishing several games for them.
Microsoft has been way worse than sony. Probably, yeah.
I don’t mean to overly defend Sony Then don’t? Going to completely uninvolved third parties and snapping them up to hoard their IPs, or simply outright paying them to not publish elsewhere (coughepiccough) should always be indefensible. Xbox is worse, but Sony is still real bad about this shit, and Epic is worse than all of them.

The problem isn’t having exclusives, it’s buying exclusives to punish customers, which Sony (and Xbox) does.
