This is just slavery. Fuck the USA. What a nightmare to live in
It’s spreading all over the world, I hope the rest are able to stop it
Yay Capitalism! /s
Slaves aren’t armed to the teeth. Stop letting these people pretend cowardice is helplessness.
Who does the 70 year old need to shoot to fix his situation?
I dunno what a gun would solve here for anyone? Shoot “the state”?
No vitals for 10 minutes doesn’t make sense
Anyone without vitals for 10 minutes would he dead
They should have still had vitals with a heart attack
If CPR is keeping your blood flowing for 10 mins then you don’t have vitals. CPR stops when your vitals comes back or when they pronounce your dead-dead.
Long- and short-term disability need regulation. Companies cut funding to their own employees at times when it hurts the most while also throwing them to the health insurance vultures.
It sends the message fuck you, find your own way or die.
Why are private companies even in the loop? Where I live, the government pays disability.
Murica, the ultra rich making anything related to the welfare of others “communism”
Basically 100 years of social engineering to convince 50% of the country that any that benefits them is evil and wrong
You don’t ask for favors when your life is through
You’ve got a right to what’s coming to you
Your boss gets a pension when he is too old
You helped him retire, you’re out in the cold
Too old to work, too old to work
When you’re too old to work and you’re too young to die
Who will take care of you, how’ll you get by
Whеn you’re too old to work and you’re too young to die?
cracking tune
i’ll be playing that one at the folk club
cheers!
I don't know where the guy in the post is from. When I started a job with disability benefits (not sure if they were from the company or the state), they emphasized that we needed to look at the tax / take-home implications for if we were ever on disability.
If we had our disability insurance payment taken out of our paycheck before taxes were paid from our paycheck, then we would also owe taxes on any payments we got while we were on disability. If we paid taxes first and then paid for our disability insurance, then any payments would be tax-free.
Thing was, after taxes and deductions from our regular paycheck, we only got about 80% of the money we'd earned. And disability paid 80% of our regular paycheck. So if you paid for disability after paying taxes, you would still have about the same amount of income (though being disabled would bring in a bunch of new expenses). But if you paid for disability before paying taxes, then disability would pay 80% of your regular paycheck, and then it would be taxed - meaning you'd only be getting about 65% of your usual income.
I know it's not like that everywhere, and many places don't even have disability anymore. But if you're getting disability insurance deducted from your paycheck, it's worth checking the tax/income implications if you ever need to claim it.
Indentured servitude for the ability to exist.
He’s eligible for both the full amount of SS and/or SS disability. He’s likely not exploring all options and should talk to a social worker.
Ie, we aren’t getting the full story here.
It’s possible he still has a mortgage, or is in debt or any hundreds of reasons why the tiny amount of SS isn’t enough to survive on for him.
This is my biggest fear, people aren’t buying their first home as early as they used to. Imagine you don’t buy your first home till 40, and you get a 30yr mortgage. You’re still paying it well past standard retirement age.
That’s the great thing: they keep raising the retirement age. Soon, I’ll be able to buy a house at 45 with a 50-year mortgage, literally work until I’m dead, and let the bank take the house because I still owe $150k.
SS disability
enrolls 300 people per year. someone old who only had a heart attack ain’t getting it
This is pretty much what I’m looking at if I get hurt at work. At best I can get 60% of my normal take home, or if I pay like 50-100+ more, I can get a whole 6.67% more! Totally worth it! /s
But I thought all the Boomers were rich landlords?
thats why we need uhc
Some people are sheep. When you have literally nothing to lose, why not lash out on these mistreating you (and us).
Go ahead, you do it.
Why not us, like a a massive group of people. As much as I hate MAGA and what they were pursuing on Jan 6, at least they didn’t just wait around when they were dumb enough to believe a pathological lying narcissist about their liberties being violated. We know our liberties are being violated and we’re a bunch of cowards. I don’t expect we’ll win against fascism if we can’t even put up a fight.
72-year-old man with heart problems who isn’t sure he can even make it through a normal workday alive
This dunce: “what a sheep for not trying to murder his boss”
Because if everyone did that, we would live in anarchy, and not in the good way. There is a lot of value in social peace even for those who are on the brink of society, because those are the first to get shafted. Also even a 72 y.o. can have people depending on them, so you don’t know if he “didn’t have something to lose” - he might have a wife at home which depends on him because of health issues, or he might have children that need support regardless of age.
Although if i ever find myself in a situation where i whatever i can lose isn’t worth much anymore, i will probably find an interesting way to go out. From my current standpoint, that day is pretty far away.
Baa Ram Ewe
This isn’t a common experience from what I’ve seen.
Just give it a few more years 😐
Goodness I hope not. Maybe I’m in a bubble.
With no ageism intended, I see folks who are old enough that I wish they were retired still working way too often. Particularly at grocery stores (I think they’re partially working there to get the employee discount on groceries).
I think some do it because they don’t know what else to do with their time honestly. A lot of older folks basically defined their entire existence by their job. Then they retire and have “nothing to do”. They don’t do or have any hobbies.
Like man, I would love to retire, even better if I could now, while I am young-ish. I could spend the days playing video games, or go walk all the local trails looking for birds and bugs, or just go to all the random little small town festivals in a 100 miles radius listening to all the random live music.
There is just, a lot in the world out there. But too many have no idea, or they have been hammered all their life that anything not work is frivolous, or they worked themselves to death and just can’t get around anymore.
It’s sad.
Yesterday I ordered a pizza from dominos. The delivery driver took almost 5 minutes just to park and grab the pizza from his back seat. I was wondering wtf was going on, so I opened the door and saw him hobbling toward my steps with a cane. The man was at least 70. I quickly ran to get my wallet and tipped him whatever cash I had on hand. The pizza didn’t taste as good as it usually did.
Now wait for the media to frame this as a hero story rather than focusing on the broken system that requires him to work until his last breathe.
Damn that’s sad. Maybe I am in a bubble idk
Tell me you’re not labour class without telling me you’re not labour class.
I was talking to someone the other day that got scammed out of their retirement savings.
Yes, he was an idiot for falling for it so hard.
However, he’s going to be working late into his retirement years.
That’s super tragic holy moly. I wonder how we can protect these folks and help them.
What a short term outlook. If he dies on the job insurance pays out triple!
/s
Crossing my fingers that my wife and my insurance agent are plotting to kill me on a train, so they can afford the life they deserve.
if I ever get a job again this will be me.

Not always, but often, people can save more and retire <60yo if they learn about it and plan ahead. Some people’s identity is too tied to work and worry about losing that. Of course companies should pay workers more and have benefits like in better countries, including healthcare for all, so boss can’t use that leverage. Healthy lifestyle reduces common health issues too, cook at home healthy, mindfulness and be active. It all works together, simple living, improve skills for more income, side work, and DIY saves money, live healthier, keep adding FIRE skills for better health and retirement fund. Mustachians unite!
