Metric allows you to convert between length volume and mass in your head. Someone smarter than me could probably take a reasonable estimate of how long a kettle will take to boil just by knowing it’s wattage and estimating its volume.
You’re right that “pounds” may have e been a practical measurement back when people didn’t have calibrated and everyone’s hand weighed a pound. However, that advantage ceased once everyone standardised those measurements.
A metre is equally divisible by 50, 25, 20, 10, 5, and 2. There arr numerous advantages to a base 10 system.

You probably don’t have enough information to reach that conclusion but suffice to say the guy was not of sound mind and is probably deserving of sympathy.

That’s what I initially thought but I did some reading and it’s not really the case.
Firstly, the age of consent in france is 15, and the attitudes of the French people are much more relaxed in this area, and I can respect that.
However, it’s likely there was some kind of relationship when he was 15 and she was 39. There’s no evidence that it was sexual but I kinda assume that it was. His parents sent him to a school in Paris to break them up. I can’t be bothered linking the source but it’s mentioned on the wikipedia page and you can click through to read the references.
On balance, it seems no laws were broken and it seems unlikely that either party was harmed. However, the early years of their relationship were certainly dubious ethically.

No way. It’s the obsession with Americans weird take on “freedom” and it seems to have been around since forever.
Its freedom as in everyone is free to not have health insurance if the choose not to. Everyone is free to die by gun homicide if they wish to.
Of course, no one is free to choose what to do with their own body, like not have a baby or take hormones - that would just be weird.
And yes, any changes to the status quo would be a threat to the people profiting from it.

Daughter might not be thrilled but it’s not abusive.
It’s fine to have narrow ideas about who you might have a relationship with, but let others do as they wish provided they’re not harming anyone.
