What we would get instead: being sick and still forced to work after societal collapse, and pretend everything is fine

in a very interesting book i read a good long time ago called “the culture of narcissism”, this is known as as Primary Narcissism. it is the most common form of human narcissism which is basically the desire to return to the womb.

We all know it’s news that’s the problem

All these horrible things have always happened, even worse, but less frequently because lower global population. And we’d never find out about it because they’re shooting babies on the other side of the world

Is it bad that we know about it? No? But I’m trying to catch up, digest it, let it help form my opinions, then turn off notifications, read a book, go outside T_T spend time with safe people irl. I hate leaving my nest, but it feels good to stretch my wings. I’m trying to limit myself to one or two days online. It’s not working

I would wish for a major Desaster to “reset” society. Just because it’s so bad. Fight-club-style. Rework capitalism ground-rules, kill religions, remove real-estate from private hands,…

Even though it does not affect me currently. Living the life. No work, just hobbies, traveling and fun. Didn’t even notice covid or the lockdowns, and wifey and me still didn’t have it.

I’m knocking on the door of 60 but this has always been an idle daydream of mine.

As I’ve got older I’ve come to realise a. that I’m no longer young enough to be the heroic, plucky survivor of my teenage daydreams, and b. just how utterly horrific societal collapse would be.

We’ve hit the point where people find the end of the world is more likely than the end of capitalism

When i was in a bad job and bad future prospects situation i fantasized/hoped for this. Was into zombie movies (id be among the first ones eaten, really).

Corona & homeoffice changed things. Lock down was bad but iwas already training for new job and had no time to go out.

Saving the commute is the only way i could imagine having time to raise kids. Well and another shit job that is also very chill because economy is bad so no reason to fight for raise.

Now, job might aswell be non existant by next year and all the shitty failing companies are pushing for RTO thinking mobile work is the reason of the fail, not idiot managers.

So, yes life is becoming unbearable again and i think this is part of the reason people are protesting aggressively, voting extreme parties in hopes of easement.

Politicians answer with more surveilliance, police brutality and less democracy.

I think with AI taking jobs, more extreme climate events we will see this more and more until revolution/civil war/collapse in europe & america.

Being hit by a motor vehicle of some sort owned by a large company with deep pockets and suffering a horrific but ultimately temporary injury with absolutely no longer-term health effects that nonetheless results in a seven figure injury settlement

Covid time was personally great for me. Vietnam locked things down. We had food delivered. We didn’t get sick. At home with the wife and kid. Watching movies and tv. Playing games. Making the second kid. I worked from home for something like 6 to 9 months because my office is in a neighboring province and VN didn’t allow travel between provinces until a later relaxing of restrictions after vaccines became available.

I had a serious injury that meant staying in bed most of the day for a couple of years. It sucked hard, and I did none of my hobbies, just watched all of Netflix.

I’m mostly better now and am able to go to my job which also sucks.

I’m at work and this hit me like a freight train. and I like my work.

I feel like getting hit by a freight train would be a little too far, but like … at least my kids would get enough money to be OK?

The problem is that these people are so far away from reality that they think this would benefit them. They have no clue how their live would really be in case of a breakdown when the four horsemen going havoc.

We got the shutdown during COVID and I think it scared people because nobody enjoyed that. Accidentally did more to keep people invested in keeping the shitshow going than anything else.

I enjoyed the Covid shut down, meant I got to stay home, no plans to make, just peace. Loved every minute of it.

The deaths caused by COVID-19 were terrible, but the whole lockdown thing was awesome. One of the best periods of my life so far.

We should have a lockdown for a couple of months every few years just to give everyone some time to unwind and relax.

I’ll be honest, for some of us “essential” workers it was hell. We didn’t get that time, we didn’t get bonus compensation, we didn’t get space. I lost multiple family members during those events and didn’t even get to say goodbye to them. I say this out of genuine but not negative jealousy. Be thankful for that time you had. The way people describe it to me makes me want to agree with you about the world should take turns shutting down now and then to give people time and space to connect.

It was some of the best times for me. At home with the family just hanging out and not getting sick. I realize a lot of people got sick and many died.
