- Comment on How far do you wear your daily shoes out before bothering to replace them? 3 days ago:
I wear heavily cushioned shoes for comfort, and the common tradeoff is they don’t have an outsole to reduce weight. The midsoles have direct contact to the ground and since they are super soft, they wear out fast if you regularly wear them. Once I start losing traction or I can feel the ground through the soles, it’s time to replace them.

Yikes, he’s on the wrong side of 30. It’s gonna be rough coming back from that.

Same. Sometimes they’re all in one section as well so I make sure to distribute them evenly. I also add another layer of mozzarella before baking.

- Comment on I have seen a lot of movies where the Catholic School Nuns smack a students hand for being disruptive or something is this a trope or a real something? Like most notable in Blues Brothers 1 week ago:
Yeah, my kindergarten teacher didn’t like me using my left hand to write for some reason, so slapped my hand with a ruler. Now I write with my right hand.

For the amount of pancakes, I’d say that’s not really a lot of butter.

You could try Buldak if you haven’t yet. I believe they have a 3x spicy version, if you really want to go the extremes. The regular buldak is already too spicy for a lot of people.

Oh for sure, I meant I never knew it was called a ratchet belt.
- Comment on Losing_weight_IRL 1 week ago:
Yep exactly! And thanks for the link, I’ve been using it for 15+ years but never bothered knowing what it’s called.
- Comment on Losing_weight_IRL 1 week ago:
My belt is the type that has grooves on it and you can adjust the buckle in smaller increments compared to the typical holes. It’s also great for avoiding creases when using a standard buckle.

- Comment on Asking the important questions 2 weeks ago:
I saw a video of I think a shelter where there were lots of dogs. A new dog was introduced and immediately tried asserting dominance by being aggressive to some of the other dogs. Then this one dog appeared and all the other dogs kinda backed away to give it a path and you can just feel its aura. Then it basically did to the new dog what it was doing to the other dogs and the new dog quickly realized who’s the boss in that hood and started behaving.
I imagine that dog was the equivalent of a celebrity in the sense that everyone knows who he is.

- Comment on Do people actually believe those "gurus" on the internet that supposedly "give advice"? These seems very sussy and feel scam-adjacent, isn't it? 2 weeks ago:
The fact that there are a ton of them means it works. A lot of gullible people either buy products they endorse, or pay monthly subscriptions for regular video sessions to listen to them.
- Comment on I'm looking for the best free online storage site my files. That is heavily encrypted and respect people's privacy, what would you suggest? 3 weeks ago:
ProtonDrive is the only cloud storage option with a free tier recommended by privacyguides.org.
Another option like others have said is encrypt your data first and you can use any service. You can create a veracrypt container and just upload that file. I read a comment somewhere that dropbox is capable of handling encrypted containers so you don’t have to re-upload a veracrypt file several GBs in size every time. I haven’t tried that yet though.

Not to mention all the microplastics that shed on your food when the knife cuts into the board.
- Comment on What is with these videos where it's just someone reaction to shit someone else is doing? 3 weeks ago:
It’s the easiest/laziest way to get a ton of views/engagement. Why bother doing the work of creating your own content when you can just steal other people’s videos and put your face in the corner “reacting” to it, then publish it as your own? Get enough subscribers/followers and views and you can start monetizing it.
- Comment on Is there a "buy nothing" community on Lemmy? Or an anti-consumerism comm? 3 weeks ago:
The purpose of a buy nothing group is to give away free stuff in the easiest and fastest way possible. That only works if it’s a local community where people can meet up or travel a short distance to the person giving away stuff. That’s why buy nothing groups on facebook for example are grouped by zip code or general areas within a given city.
I’ve never seen a buy nothing group where people discuss things. People post only if they’re giving away stuff or if they are in need of something. Discussions can be done on a thrifting community or something similar, not a buy nothing group.
- Comment on Is there a "buy nothing" community on Lemmy? Or an anti-consumerism comm? 3 weeks ago:
Buy nothing communities work best in localized areas I think, for practical reasons. Not sure if a general community would work with users all around the world.
