IMO, it’s because the internet today is driven by profit, which makes clicks, engagement, bots, ads, and bait the primary driver of how most things on the internet are created for. 15-20 years ago, blogs and websites were just there for people to share their interests and not to bombard you with ads. Social media platforms were there just to connect with your friends and share photos, and not an algorithm-driven engagement machine.

That’s fair. But the point still stands that getting a job in the destination country is the most practical legal way outside of applying for refugee/asylum, which is hard to get approved for.

Yes, not everyone can, but it’s not impossible. I did. At that point I was 3 years working in that company. I was fortunate that my boss and his boss were very supportive and happy to help.

Like others have already mentioned, get a job at a multinational company that has offices in other countries and ask to be relocated. The advantage with a company- sponsored relocation is that they will pay for and process your immigration paperwork, which can get quite expensive and complicated. If you’re lucky, they’ll also pay for your first month of housing so you hit the ground running.
You can also get English teaching jobs in Asia which I hear is easy if you’re a native speaker, but the pay isn’t that great. You’ll be able to live comfortably but won’t have much savings.

In all the jobs I’ve had my entire career, my teammates always invited me to have lunch with them when I was new. I guess I was lucky to have coworkers who made sure new hires aren’t left out. Obviously if you actually prefer to eat alone, people should respect that.

Her company was sinking its teeth into the medical field though. That could’ve killed people if they weren’t found out soon enough.

I’m in a major city with lots of tech companies and getting unaffordable every year. Having said that, utilities, phone, and internet are doable, BUT with caveats:
You can still find a $1200 1-BR apartment, but it might not be in a great area in the city. So I agree this is not ideal even though it’s possible.
You can spend less than $100 on electricity and water in a 1-bedroom apartment because the utility provider is regulated. Once you get out of their coverage (outside city limits), it gets expensive pretty quick. My monthly bill back when I was living in an apartment was around $60-$70.
Fiber internet (500 Mbps) can be as low as $30-$45. You just have to keep calling every renewal either to ask for a promo rate, or threaten to switch so they offer to get you back to the introductory price. I hate that it has to be like this, but it’s possible.
A pre-paid carrier like Mint or US Mobile can cost as low as $15 a month, but you’ll have limited data. If you don’t really need much internet while out and about, then it won’t really be much of an issue.
Transportation is definitely the problem, and $300 a month won’t cut it. Public transpo barely exists and you’ll likely have a car payment and insurance, which will eat up your monthly budget. And yeah, $350 for food isn’t enough anymore.

In 2024, the average length of U.S. homeownership is 11.9 years. While this number is nearly double the length of 6.5 years in 2006, home ownership has been on the decline since 2020

I was shocked to learn that the average homeowner in the US lives in their house for only 7 years. I think it’s due to the nature of how huge the country is and that something as simple as a job change means you have to move across the country and sell your house. There’s also the culture of always upgrading.
I grew up in a place where you usually buy once and live there forever, so equity isn’t really too important. But then again it’s a more centralized way of living where you can stay in place for most of your life.

That’s why I find it funny when people are asked what animal they wanted to be and some answer with some apex predator in the jungle or the sea. I always answer with house cat. You are fed and pampered with, and you don’t even have to show affection or gratitude back. You can be an asshole and they’ll find you adorable.
