Hope they don’t have bare wires and too much velcro.
Eiri@lemmy.ca 2 months ago
I just meant breathing more oxygen makes you agree faster

Yes, I also hope they don’t and not that they do.

Why is this meme implying that olives, Campari and cigarettes is not the peak of human diet that we all know it to be?
Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 2 months ago
Because it’s missing the 6 month old leg of pork that’s so full of nitrates it cannot even rot.
Valmond@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Cheese wine and cigarettes is le better!
MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 2 months ago
Cigarettes are not.
Valmond@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Neither is Campari, or eating just olives but here we are.

My favorite thing about the whole myth about people in southern Italy regularly living to be over 100 is that it’s actually just pension fraud.
LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Ok but we still can’t deny that Mediterranean cuisine is maximum nutritious & maximum yummy.
Pringles@sopuli.xyz 2 months ago
That’s the spirit! Shortlived as it may be
thespcicifcocean@lemmy.world 2 months ago
I won’t fight you on that.

for all the hate the guy gets, I do appreciate that he’s at least taking a science-based approach and publishes what works/doesn’t. The core building blocks he continually pushes people follow are the basics we all know: good sleep, food and exercise. Outside of this he’s tested various protocols and only continues them if the biomarkers he’s tracking show some kind of improvement. He’s even published basic meals (Super Veggie) that anyone can make to ensure they’re eating healthy and getting the most bang for their buck (nutrient to caloric content ratio).
UnrepententProcrastinator@lemmy.ca 2 months ago
Sample of one is pretty shit though.
papertowels@mander.xyz 2 months ago
Is society gonna get the funding to try all this shit on a scientifically relevant number of samples?

Certain grifters are advertising taking essential amino acids supplements instead of protein. Presumably his team concluded that there’s no upside to taking essential amino acids supplements when he gets enough protein.
Global_Liberty@lemmy.ml 2 months ago
I thought the same, then I read about his confidentiality agreements to control narratives.
AppleTea@lemmy.zip 2 months ago
those actually look pretty tasty
blah3166@piefed.social 2 months ago
It actually is! I tried it for a while and noticed its impact on reducing my hunger, reduced swelling (I could tell because the rings on my fingers were no longer “tight"), and its easy to make so there’s no excuse not to eat healthy.
HazardousBanjo@lemmy.world 2 months ago
This guy pissing away millions on his ongoing psychosis episode should be grounds enough to ban billionaires forever.
Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 months ago
hes very obsessed with extending his lifespan compared to other billionaires, his pretty extreme. hes basically like that billionaire in ROYAL PAINS show from usa network, where he was using sharks, unsanctioned research from cuba, to “extend his lifespan, treat his illness”
Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 2 months ago
the sad thing is that the best way we know of to extend your life is just getting plenty of exercise, eating healthy, having friends, and avoiding cancer.
simply by trying so hard to live longer he’s probably shortening his lifespan from the stress
Corporal_Punishment@feddit.uk 2 months ago
Sure he might outlive us, but honestly what’s the fucking point? At this point for him he’s basically just existing. Is he happy? Is he getting any enjoyment out of life? Because it sure doesn’t seem like it
psycho_driver@lemmy.world 2 months ago
He’s selling products by doing this, so there’s that.
Valmond@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Hyperbaric treatment is dangerous, and I haven’t even seen a pseudo-scientific (fake science) reason for doing it if like you don’t have mountain sickness or some other "bizarre’ acute problem with what’s in your blood.
Atropos@lemmy.world 2 months ago
It’s also very beneficial to prevent limb loss from trauma that reduces blood flow. Makes a huge difference in the first couple of days to keep the tissue alive.
PalmTreeIsBestTree@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Dude is going to end up burning alive in that thing
Valmond@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Or die by decompression if the chamber cracks.
MrEff@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Those chambers are normally only done around 2 or 2.5 atmosphere, 3 tops. Not enough to kill anyone if it cracked. A small pop and rushing sound at most depending on the crack size.

UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 2 months ago
I’ve been building a resistance to oxygen my whole life.
CptOblivius@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Our bodies have multiple enzymes and antioxidants to keep oxygen from slowly killing us. And this guy wants to concentrate it. Hyperbaric has its uses, making a normal person live longer is not one of them.
JackbyDev@programming.dev 2 months ago
I remember seeing a meme about what alien life might be like and they say “what do you mean all life on Earth breathes rocket fuel???”
Agent641@lemmy.world 2 months ago
The dominant species exposed itself to damaging stellar radiation as a form of recreation.
AppleTea@lemmy.zip 2 months ago
I get these stories as a way of pointing out the inherant absurditity in a lot of every day things…
…but also… life requires energy. Something’s gotta keep the metabolism going. Oxygen is both highly reactive and significantly more abundant than any of its heavier counterparts further down the column. If there is life out there with a metabolic rate anywhere approaching our own, it would be weird if it didn’t use oxygen.
AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 2 months ago
It was a complicated time when life switched to oxygen. We still have life without oxygen btw (mostly in the depths). But those damn plants fucked up a good life for everyone back then.
shalafi@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Plenty of anaerobic bacteria topside! Go take a dump. That smell is mostly their waste products.
Fun fact: Poop is mostly bacteria. Had a gut surgeon tell me it was 90%.
mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 2 months ago
fire hazard too.
unphazed@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Listened to a tale of a kid with adhd thrown into one of these and the moron doctors didn’t follow proper safety. Apparently it’s not just a fire, it’s like a goddamn plasma burn. No way on hell do you survive. Better to let a person burn quickly rather than attempt rescue.
vrighter@discuss.tchncs.de 2 months ago
never heard of a little thing called oxygen toxicity
explodicle@sh.itjust.works 2 months ago
Isn’t that what the air tubes are for, like a SCUBA?
vrighter@discuss.tchncs.de 2 months ago
scuba don’t breathe pure oxygen. That’s poisonous

I’m smoking Campari through an olive right now!
WereCat@lemmy.world 2 months ago

hes like peter thiel who tried to extend his life. He looks awful despite having some “skin enhancement treatments”.
He boasted how he defeated a lawsuit from a former GF(taryn sounthern) claiming he ruined her chances of a career by convincing her to give it up to work for her, and when she breast cancer, he dumped her because it was making him look bad, aka thinking about mortality.
rbesfe@lemmy.ca 2 months ago
IMMORTAN! WITNESS MEEEEE!!
PissingIntoTheWind@lemmy.world 2 months ago
If you see this dude in person. He looks like an actual case of turning into a zombie. It’s like he lost his soul. He has dead eyes.
AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Well, zombies live forever. Kinda.
Chessmasterrex@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Pretty quick way to die if the oxygen ignites.
UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 2 months ago

You think oxygen is your ally, but you merely adopted the oxygen. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn’t see carbon dioxide until I was already a man!

You just know he’s going to have some hilariously ironic death like the Segway scooter guy. It’s like learning about the guy who claimed God couldn’t sink the Titanic and deciding, “I’m going to do that! Every day!”
Denjin@feddit.uk 2 months ago
The segway guy is actually a pretty sad story. James Haselden was a genuinely good guy, founder of a company making a type of portable and collapsible barrier, originally intended to shore up canals and rivers but ended up solving a variety of problems around the world.
He kept manufacturing local to his childhood home, paying significantly above the average to his staff, created jobs and opportunities for many people in a relatively impoverished community.
Gave many many millions of pounds to charities and good causes.
He bought the segway company, intending on reviving what had become a failing business and died a pretty tragic and stupid death and now all anyone thinks of him is “haha how ironic”.
Valmond@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Even in death he keeps on giving.
ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 2 months ago
Oxygen is so bad for you, too. It literally damages cells. I don’t mean this ironically or anything else. It is physically bad for you to breathe pure oxygen.
BakerBagel@midwest.social 2 months ago
Oxygen is corrosive as fuck. That’s why people are so obsessed with anti-oxidants. It’s important to cellular respiration because it is do damn volatile, but our bodies have to do a lot to keep it contained and safe.
GelatinGeorge@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Rust in peace, Bryan.

Hyberbaric chambers have a tendency to explode.
There was one in the new the other day that tragically exploded with a small child inside.
psycho_driver@lemmy.world 2 months ago
What did the little shit do to cause it to explode?
Quetzalcutlass@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Or a terrible, painful one.
KSPAtlas@sopuli.xyz 2 months ago
Wasn’t Apollo I destroyed when a spark caused an explosion on the launchpad due to pressurising the cabin with pure oxygen?
Mirshe@lemmy.world 2 months ago
No, it was because of shoddy wiring causing a fire inside the capsule in an area that couldn’t be accessed easily or extinguished from the outside. The egress sequence was also very time consuming (somewhere like 90 seconds). Apollo I also was just a training module, it never got launched.
Tangent5280@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Maybe, but that’s neither here nor there. We can’t draw that correlation to effects of oxygen on the body via respiration.
psycho_driver@lemmy.world 2 months ago
He already broke his leg by dancing like a white guy on stage at a concert a couple of years ago.
