50 Cent as a computer scientist.
Nick Cage in anything
Fuck right off. He is great in The Pig. He is great in Dream Scenario.
He is MAGNIFICENT in Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent
The weather man? I think he fit very well. Same for Lord of War. I know they are both 20 years old, but still.
I thought he was great and very believable as a dork in Peggy Sue Got Married.
I haven’t seen the movie but I remember someone talking about Denise Richards playing a nuclear physicist as one of the most ridiculous things. Don’t know which movie though.
The world is not enough, James Bond. And her name was Christmas Jones so that Bond could make a joke about Christmas coming more than once a year.
HAHAHAHAHA oh my god that’s so fucking funny.
I want to mock Bond girl names but I’m not sure I can come up with anything more ridiculous than Goldfinger’s Pussy Galore.
She herself refers to how she played a “nuke-ular psychiatrist in a James Bonk movie” in the episode of 30 Rock where she and Tracy are leading a protest of NBC by their fellow idiots. 🤣
I completely forgot about beer cans that told you how cold they were!
Are you thinking her Bond movie, The World is Not Enough? I don’t think she was cast because of her ability to accurately portray a scientist…
I don’t think she was cast because of her ability to accurately portray a scientist…
Scientits on the other hand… 😏
I don’t know, I just remember that from a youtube vid. 🤷 It could have been cinemasins or some other movie review channel.
James Bond: The World is Not Enough. www.imdb.com/title/tt0143145/
She played Dr. Christmas Jones and is still the least believable part of any James Bond movie
But was still a fun character and it was a ludicrous but fun movie. At that time, they were leaning into the cheesez rather than trying for gritty, in the Daniel Craig era.
the world is not enough, a pierce brosnan bond movie:
“Posing as a Russian scientist Bond meets American nuclear physicist Dr. Christmas Jones cooperating with Russian armed forces in overseeing the dismantling of the site.”
Aahhh, remember when Russia was seen as an enemy of the US of A? Pepperidge Farm remembers … 🥲
Dolph Lundgren in Expendables shows some unusual skills in chemical science.
And yes, I know that Dolph Lundgren studied chemistry IRL
He didn’t just “study” he has a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering and received a Fulbright Scholoarship at MIT. Pretty spot-on casting honestly.
Dolph Lundgren can smell crime!
We show it.
Will Smith in anything Sci-Fi 👎 Scarlett Johansson in anything Sci-Fi 👎
Jessica Alba was great in Dark Angel but nothing since then
Alba was fantastic in Sin City
You keep ScarJo’s name outta your fucking mouth!
Independence day was great when it was released. Men in black, too.
Lucy was interesting. Ghost in the machine wasnt as good as the (amazing) original, but was still good.
Do you mean ghost in the shell for Scarlett Johansson?
Ghost in the Shell was horrible. She played the Major as a completely different character than the original. Scarlett Johansen plays a really good seductive spy, but that’s all she plays. Major Kusanagi was ace.
Jessica Alba went on to make a few hundred millions selling soap, so shes got that goin for her.
Which is nice.
I maintain that Men in Black (the first one) is a masterpiece. Otherwise… yeah.
What?! I, Robot was great!
There were good parts in that movie, but Will Smith wasn’t one of them.
I need you to get on the nearest bus and not ask where the destination is
Honestly, I think iRobot understood the source material better than Foundation.
Under The Skin was a great sci-fi film with Scarlett Johansson leading
i recently saw post about alan tudyk indicating he was cast aside because will smith had to be lead of irobot, and they saw ALan was the better actor for that movie, he seems kind of pissed about it(this came out at the same time that resident alien was cancelled)
Oh I liked Jensen Acjles in Dark Angel, he brought charm and comedic wit to it. Yeah apparently there was some tension but nothing major, just usual work stress
RFK jr?
Too real man… To real
Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park?
Jeff Goldblum is the worst example, he’s always a scientist!
It’s the glasses. They make him a nerd apparently.
The Fly!
Samuel L. Jackson in Jurassic Park!
“Hold onto my butts!”
- Sam Jackson horking down another ciggie
The one that instantly sprung to mind was Denise Richards as nuclear physicist Dr. Christmas Jones in The World Is Not Enough.
There’s a lot of people in this thread proudly sharing how they stereotype and have preconceptions about people that they don’t actually know. And them their justification is that everyone should be a two dimensional single issue character archetype with literally no conflict or contradictions. Have you people even met any adults, especially professionals and academics, that aren’t your parents or your teachers?
I mean, I guess Mark Wahlberg could be a teacher, but he’d be one of the ones that gets arrested for something after a year or two.
Because he would be dancing around in his underwear with no shirt to his hit with Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch! Lmao! He’s not believable in anything let’s be honest!
Alexandra Daddario in the AMC show The Mayfair Witches.
She ostensibly plays a brilliant brain surgeon. She starts experiencing some spooky witch and demon-related goings on.
She meets up with a guy working for a paranormal research group. He tells her in no uncertain terms “Do not leave this magically-protected apartment. You are in great danger.” She agrees.
Five minutes later she walks out of the apartment onto the street. She immediately wanders into a New Orleans street party, is handed an open drink from a stranger, drinks it, and whoopsy daisy gets magically roofied into a demon-engineered hallucination of her dead mother.
Brilliant. Brain. Surgeon.
I worked with a few PhDs in the past. PhDs do not equal common sense.
As a hiring manager in IT for decades, I learned early: do not hire PhDs
They can write a paper about why the program does not work. They are not willing to sit down roll up their sleeves get intimate with a debugger and make the program work.
I’ve known some incredibly stupid doctors though. They’re extremely good at their field but anything outside that? Horrific!
Ben Carson, though RFK makes Ben’s stupid appointment look inspired.
Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. Dude is supposed to be an archeologist but he’s too busy breaking & entering into sacred temples while trampling artifacts to get his dirty hands on some golden relic for profit. Smdh
Ice cube pulled off being a modern social media user in the new war of the worlds themed ad, he didnt even know how to leave the house
Mark Wahlberg in The Happening.
Charlie Sheen as an astronomer in The Arrival.
Not scientist but Ludacris is like a master fucking hacker in Fast and Furious right, that’s very not believable.
it has to be Mark Wahlberg in the Happening I think as the most unbelievable “scientist” casting and then followed up by misunderstood actual genius engineer in Transformers.
Matt Damon in any of his space movies.
The guy who played John Chriton in Farscape.
He was very suited to the action and comedy stuff in the show, but there's just something kinda gormless about his face that made him mathing out and frantically writing sums on the floor seem more unbelievable than the muppet space opera going on around him.
Sandra Bullock ; the net
George Clooney as Batman anything other than George Clooney.
Channing Tatum as a NASA scientist in “fly me to the moon” was just painful.
Giancarlo Esposito as Gustavo Fring, the Chilean in Breaking Bad. His Spanish was not Chilean at all and there are hardly any African Chileans (especially not in the era during which he was supposedly in Chile).
Samuel L Jackson has been a scientist a couple times and none of them made sense.
Racism and sexism on display with this post and comments. cmon, be better.
Krysten Ritter in Orphan Black: Echos. They gave her glasses and a blazer and it was not convincing.
I've met computer nerds who look like 50, but I haven't seen the media the image is from so maybe his acting sucked, idk.
That guy they got to play Stephen Hawking in ST:TNG
Tara Reid as an archaeologist and museum curator in Alone in the Dark. In fact the only good thing about that movie was the soundtrack.
I recently watched Rise of the Planet of the Apes, so James Franco as the scientist/dad. Like seriously, we’re rebooting such a classic and James Franco is the best we could come up with??
Don’t think you can beat oceanographer Debbie Gibson in Megashark v Giant Octopus.
Entire cast of tbbt, incl. Hawking.

Steven Seagal playing Wesley McClaren, a doctor and former government research immunologist in this masterpiece:

Imagine trying to rent a mediocre Gibson movie and accidentally getting a shitty Seagal movie instead!

You didn’t like it? I thought it was really good.
I hated all the white washing Mel does though…
Plurrbear@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago

I wonder if space ice had reviewed it
blackbrook@mander.xyz 2 weeks ago
To be fair, he’s just as unbelievable playing anyone with an average IQ.
pyre@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
you take that back or he will snatch every motherfucking punani

Omg, I forgot.
notso@feddit.org 2 weeks ago
He’s doing some some serious science in that one for about 1:30 minutes. A rare cerebral moment in his filmography: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pueLyUlJFTc&t=4023

Steven Seagal in ANY MOVIE! Horrible actor and he’s even a “master in martial arts” and still is horrible and laughable actor in movies trying to “showcase” his talent. Haha!
Anyone remember, “Belly of the Beast” hahaha. (BTW he wrote it!) it’s embarrassing!
