I wish I could not fund military spending, otherwise taxes are good.
- Comment on There is a scene in Saving Private Ryan where a soldier gets shot in the helmet and it bounces off. Now a days soldiers seem to get shot in the helmet and it goes right thru. How come and why? 3 days ago:
Helmets only give lthe wearer a better probability to survive a direct shot to the head. Helmet engineering has improved just like other engineering disciplines. That said even a WWII helmet gave the wearer a higher probability of surviving certain calibers and bullet types more than without. Take the example of a high angle/glancing shot. Most of the kinetic energy does not transfer to the head or helmet in either case. The head will still absorb more of the glancing forces than a helmet, thus giving the wearer a higher probability of surviving.
Nowadays helmets are made to improve the absorption and deflection properties, thus giving an even higher probability of survival. That said bullets of sufficient size as well as shrapnel can penetrate the helmet if precisely placed.

It is an acute example of the whole world’s problem with American military bases on foreign soil. They want them to leave but can’t make them.

- Comment on Why is daisychaining multiple extension cords considered unsafe, even if only done to the length of a standard cable? 3 weeks ago:
Extension cords are rated for certain levels of resistive load based on their length. It typically has to do with the gauge of the wire used in the chord itself. Electrical resistance is typically converted into heat energy. If you daisy chain extension cords and have them plugged into appliances, then the resistive load of the chained cords can be higher than the rating of one or more of the extension cords. This can cause fire.
- Comment on Video Games Can’t Afford to Look This Good 3 weeks ago:
It is hard for me to take seriously a hand-wringing industry that makes more money than most entertainment industries. Capitalism is the primary cause öd articles like this. They simply demand moar each year, otherwise it is somehow a sign of stagnation or poor performance.
AAA studios could be different, but they choose to play the same game as every other sector. Small studios and independents suffer much more because of the downstream effects of the greedy AAAs establishing market norms.
We need unionization, folks. Broad unionization across sectors to fight against ownership/investor greed. It won’t solve everything but it will certainly stem the worst of it.

- Comment on Luigi Mangione pleads not guilty to murdering health insurance CEO 4 weeks ago:
I mean, the police sculpted his eyebrows before extradition to make him present more like the assailant. He does not look like the same person, so of course he is. He seems like an innocent person who’s had charges pinned on him for the appearance of a functioning justice system.
