100% agree. The best a lowly peon like me can do is to try and hire junior devs instead of replacing them. Managers like me have to incorporate it into the teams workflow. If I don’t do it, I don’t have a job.

Real talk. AI isn’t the problem. AI is nothing but a tool. It’s corporate greed that is the problem.
I use AI. It’s a fantastic tool. My QA time is slashed in 1/2. Reports that I have to do weekly is done so quickly, it might as well be instant. What used to take my 6 hours. Instant. . Everything is more efficient.
But it doesn’t replace humans. It just shifts the tasks. Instead of building reports and power points, I’m spending more time training my junior devs. It frees up my time to do other tasks is more important.
- Comment on Is there a point to the Straight Of Hormuz? What is the difference between the Iranians having it than the US? What does it mean for the average joe in either country? 1 week ago:
Off topic. Will this speed up electrification? I know I’m now looking at replacing my ice vehicle.

- Comment on The size decrease of fast-food over the last 5 years. 1 week ago:
I live in Taiwan and the food market here is INTENSE.
My kid loves chicken nuggets from McDonald’s. So when I was visiting America, I noticed that the size of the nuggets are about 20% thinner and noticeably shorter than what we have locally. It wasn’t always like this. I still lived in the US during early pandemic.
In Taiwan, there are so many restaurants and food stalls and online delivery and Line messaging app group buys that everyone is trying to get a tiny slice of the consumers food budget. It’s because the barrier to entry is so low. Less than 1500USD, you can get a food stall and materials to start a food cart.
What that means is that restaurants who pull this shit gets quickly found out and the restaurant is gone pretty quickly.

Maybe the properties would be similar to plastic.

You don’t understand how much humidity is on tropical islands. When I open a bag of chips, the time it gets stale is measured in minutes, not days.
Even with a humidifier on 24/7, you can never drop the humidity to a point that books don’t start rotting.
- Comment on This bookstore wraps all books in plastic. 2 weeks ago:
I live in Taiwan and the humidity kills books and makes them damp and stinky. So some places our books are wrapped.
- Comment on A Linux Version of Windows 11 2 weeks ago:
My recommendation is to just run windows if your needs requires .exe. Trying to shoehorn .exe into an OS not designed for your use case will make you hate the OS instead of loving it.
Don’t let some of these fanboys convince you that Wine/bottle is all you need. It’s not. Most apps are well documented. Some are not and you will get frustrated when it’s not.
I’m os agnostic. Run Linux and Windows depending on the situation.

- Comment on How come they don't do a cooking show for poor or middle class people? Something that is under 10 bucks that will last a couple days and be great. 5 weeks ago:
I used to watch this as a kid with my mom. At the time he was the only Chinese person on TV that was Asian that wasn’t a comedic relief or some kungfu villain.
I still cook some of his dishes. With how cheap Asian cooking is, there is no reason to eat taco bell except for convenience.

Because of him I also use the cleaver for 95% of my cooking. Except I now have 4 different sized cleavers.
My favorite cleaver is the veggie cleaver I got from Japan. It’s super thin and glides through veggies.

I’m going to date myself, but we used to have this show called Yan can cook. Chinese guy teaching you cheap ways to cook Chinese food.
How tag line “Yan can cook. And so can you.” Dude is a legend.
- Comment on people who take zoom calls in coffee shops are insufferable 1 month ago:
I actively avoid using coffee shops to take calls, but sometimes it’s the only place with wifi and power. I do try my best to keep my conversation at a level that is equal to others at the coffee shop. It’s really unavoidable sometimes.

I can with Mandarin and English and there are many words that both languages don’t have. Also in Mandarin there are different levels of respect/ tones when speaking to an elder or a boss that gets completely lost in translations.
- Comment on Is using an ssd as a cache to speed up a harddrive still a thing? 1 month ago:
My Synology has 2x nvme drive specific for cache. You can’t even use it as part of your pool unless you ssh in and do it manually.
I use one for cache and the other as part of my pool so my Immich thumbnails load and database fast.

- Comment on Why can't I apply SPF50 sunscreen twice to get SPF100 protection? 1 month ago:
I just looked it up and America will soon get the good sunscreens. Bemotrizinol has just been FDA approved.
Until then, I am sticking with American has some bad sunscreens. Until I guess this month.
- Comment on Why can't I apply SPF50 sunscreen twice to get SPF100 protection? 1 month ago:
Don’t buy American sun screen. It’s always cakey and flakey. Go import some Korean sunscreen. It’s basically feels like you have nothing on and gives you better protection.

- Comment on If your significant other cheated on you, would you confront or attack the person they cheated with? 2 months ago:
I had this happen to me and my good friend.
They kept it a secret for a year and I only found out from another buddy of mine. I promptly dumped her and stopped talking to the friend. He later bragged about it my friends and then for some reason threatened to hurt me. I took the messages the police and inadvertently got him deported. I didn’t know at the time but he was an illegal alien who overstayed his student visa. Oops.
He later apologized to me after for the hurt he caused. I also told him I felt hella bad for accidentally deporting him.
- Comment on Is this how girls behave when they like you? 2 months ago:
I’m a dude and at work I’m a super nice guy and like to talk to everyone.
I’m happily married with a kid. This girl became super agitated towards me one day after being quite friendly/normal.
I later found out she was super into me and just found out I was married with a kid. My other coworkers told me she felt like I was leading her on.
- Comment on Is it weird that I cringe whenever someone calls my name and I avoid using peoples names when talking to them? 3 months ago:
I make it a thing to say the person’s name that I just met at least 3 times. It’s the only way I can remember their names.
- Comment on How do I drink more water? 3 months ago:
You don’t really have to. You can buy large CO2 canisters for paintball guns and get the adapter for it. It fits in the older sodastreams.
- Comment on How do I drink more water? 3 months ago:
My wife also hates drinking water. I then bought a soda stream and her consumption increased 5X. No flavoring. Just water.
I have since bought an external soda bottle to reduce cost.
- Comment on For people who distrust police / the legal system: If you ran a small bussiness and need to hire people, and someone has a conviction but they claim innocence, do you hire them? 3 months ago:
Family business here that hired a veteran homeless man. He had prior convictions and a drug problem. My dad gave him a job and a place to stay. He worked for 1 week and left without a trace. We found him on the streets one day and he said he didn’t trust himself to not commit another crime and decided to continue living on the street.
Not everyone wants to be helped by us small business owners. Some need more help than just a job and a place to stay.
