The commodification and commercialization of punk culture is a tragedy. BY DEFINITION if you’re punk you are rebelling, it’s not just a clothing style.

I agree, thats what being punk is all about. This ain’t a stereotype but the essence of punk, so this meme/picture template isnt even true.
Danquebec@sh.itjust.works 15 hours ago
It’s so bad. I hate this meme template.

btw this is a great moment to recommend chikoi the maid artist.
eestileib@sh.itjust.works 1 day ago
Um, if you’re punk, you actually do have to rebel. It’s not about wearing jackets with band patches.
Siegfried@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Maybe they are confusing being a punk with liking punk music? There is still a huge overlap
expatriado@lemmy.world 1 day ago
i thought punk was pretty much rebel by definition
sidebro@lemmy.zip 1 day ago
Maybe that’s what she’s rebelling about

Yes, but I guess people want punk version 2 now, judging by this image.
thethrilloftime69@feddit.online 15 hours ago
Capitalism is so good at absorbing all critiques of itself into itself. Punk is rebellion. Turning punk into a fashion trend got rid of all it’s teeth.
rumba@lemmy.zip 18 hours ago
The punk and moth aren’t stereotypes; they are biologically compelled.

This meme is so funny cause moths actually don’t like lamps, they get trapped by a reflex that makes them turn their dorsal side towards the light, they thing they are flying upright cause in nature the light is always up in the sky
itrealgood@mander.xyz 1 day ago
Aaah just like my navigation software. I don’t like using it, I’m just trapped
lugal@sopuli.xyz 1 day ago
But why are they flying towards the lamp? They don’t fly towards the sun. Or are they flying around the lamp? I’m confused
thepig@lemmy.zip 1 day ago
New high-speed camera footage shows that they basically fly around the lamp, not directly towards the lamp, they must always keep their back facing the light, that’s how they know they are flying parallel to the ground, by flying with their backs facing the sun or the moon. Now with artificial light they get confused and fly around and around occasionally bumping into the light cause they get to close, something that wouldn’t happen with the sun or the moon.
gandalf_der_12te@feddit.org 1 day ago
light isn’t always up btw. it can also be down a reflection in the water.
thepig@lemmy.zip 22 hours ago
True but still the reflection would be dimmer than the main light Wich would still be up

Ahh yes LAMP… Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP. The software bundle that every high school kid installs when embarking on their journey to web development. I doubt its as popular as it used to be back in them days, WAMP particularly made it easy to get a website going.

Wouldn’t dyeing your hair a color that stands out and immediately gets noticed be for attention?
I mean, its like saying peacocks have their feathers like that not to get attention. Or colorful birds do it to not be noticed. It doesn’t really make sense.
Maybe like, just want attention on my hair and not the rest of every part of my personality? Idk its weird though because every single thing we do to our outward appearance is for the attention of others around us whether sexually socially or whatever.
I’m a dude so maybe a little different but if I dyed my hair bright blue or pink then you can bet on it getting attention. And when asked whey I did and I’d say “oh man I didn’t want anyone to notice!” People would rightfully call me out on that being bullshit.
pivot_root@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Idk its weird though because every single thing we do to our outward appearance is for the attention of others around us whether sexually socially or whatever.
This is where the disconnect is for you.
People can want to alter their appearance for their own reasons that have nothing to do with socialization. Sometimes it’s just because they want to treat themselves, try something new, or just feel good about how they look.
Danquebec@sh.itjust.works 14 hours ago
While I think that caring about how you look is not the same as “attention seeking”, I think that “feeling good about you look” is still related to socialization.
If we didn’t care whatsoever about others, we wouldn’t have any reason to care about how we look. It doesn’t have to be consciously thought like “if I do that, I’ll be more attractive to the other sex” or “if I wear this, my tribe will recognize me like one of theirs”. But feeling good about your appearance is still, in a roundabout way, about socialization, I think.
When I look in the mirror and see myself with my long hair (as a man), my metal band shirt and a wristband with norse symbols, I feel great about myself. But I think it’s not random coincidence that I happen to be really into metal.

Wouldn’t dyeing your hair a color that stands out and immediately gets noticed be for attention?
As a kid I thought about dyeing my hair one day because nair dying and gay culture were big, and i definitely wouldn’t have been doing it “for attention” - rather just to see how it looks, and in case it looks better than my natural hair colour.
I don’t think people like looking better for the sake of more attention, but rather to be perceived better when they do get noticed, which hopefully continues to happen at the same rate.
People tend to think in terms of “how will my current social circle respond to this change”
Jankatarch@lemmy.world 1 day ago
I know a muslim woman who fully covers her hair with hijab in public and still colors few strands of her hair red if that introduces a new perspective.
calcopiritus@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Yes. Dying your hair crazy colors will get you attention. But it doesn’t mean that you dyed your hair because you wanted attention.
If my dog goes too far away, I will shout its name very loud so it hears me and comes back to me.
Doing this will inevitably draw the attention of most of the people around me. But that was not my intention though, I just wanted the attention of my dog. The attention of the other people is just an unavoidable side effect. It may even be an unwanted side effect.
gray@lemmy.ml 1 day ago
Besides humans not being peacocks, I think there’s a philosophical difference between being genetically programmed to get attention and actually consciously desiring attention. And wanting to look a certain way is not the same as wanting attention at any given moment from whoever.
RickyRigatoni@piefed.zip 1 day ago
They didn’t even spell colors or math right.
pivot_root@lemmy.world 1 day ago
British spelling.
- Colours with the “u” like many other “ou” words.
- Maths is short for mathematics.
RickyRigatoni@piefed.zip 1 day ago
Color does not rhyme with flour so one of them needs different spelling.
Math is short for arethmathicalism.

Never thought about this before but in what way is she a punk if she isn’t rebelling against at least one thing?
zikzak025@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Maybe she’s just rebelling against the idea of rebellion itself.

I’ll just concile myself by saying she meant punk fashion sense. She loves punk fashion sense but also loves the government and would never ever ever rebel against it. Her dad’s a policeman and her mom’s a school principal.

FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Haha, yeah, but i guess she did that because too many people were hitting on her?
kboos1@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Yeah it’s a dumb meme. 1 & 3 are clearly claiming false persecution for sympathy, because the way you present yourself is the way you wish to be perceived. 2 is hard racism.
It only works to poke fun at the irony of a stupid premise because only one of these things is a real issue.
fushuan@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 day ago
1 is the only one that doesn’t make sense.
3 though… I want to be perceived as someone with fantasy coloured hair, you are right. Why are you making the equivalence of crazy colours -> crazy person? That’s what the image is denouncing, and you criticising.
cosmos8188@leminal.space 1 day ago
I think you missed the point on 2.
ickplant@lemmy.world 1 day ago
This is a very valid question.
