Getting back to the AI entertainment nightmare predicted in the image… what does it mean if all that happens… it reminds me of all the fat useless humans in WALL-E. It’s like what is the point of anything if that actually IS the future?

For the same reason your user name is not buendiablo?
I guess we can all suffer a little eurocentrism from time to time? But yes — enrich the list with international voices! One of my favorite novels is THE PONDS OF WAGABA by Elichi Amadi… a little known gem any fan of George Eliot would love.

Read classics:
Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen, “Moby Dick” by Herman Melville, “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and “1984” by George Orwell.
Start here. There are thousands.

I hate to spoil it. I just searched Kevin Smith Wild West Tarantula… and the title of the video had Superman in it. This tracks as I recall.
The only element of the very engaging story I do recall however is that… you should hear it from him and not me… is that he was working on the Superman project with a producer who was 100% interested in getting a huge mechanical Tarantula into the movie… and this apparently went on for years… this producer would try to get it into any movie he was working on. Kevin Smith goes to see Wild Wild West… and knows who produced it when he sees the tarantula.
It’s much more funny the way he tells it.

Have you heard Kevin Smith’s story about the enormous mechanical tarantula in that movie? Look it up, it’s hysterical.

Not at all. They totally allowed that face shot. But I’m glad he got that shot to the face because otherwise I don’t think he would have received the message. And I’ll just say, I’m glad he could end up walking away. He is allowed to reconsider his bad decisions.

I figured by now everyone has seen the video.

The dudes in my town would not allow a black truck breaking a three foot swatika on it to park. Driver exclaimed that it was a free country and jumped out. Our three dudes freely gave him an ass kicking. Ambulance took him to hospital. Cops did not arrest the dudes.

First: allow me to welcome all new members of LEMMY.
Seriously, whatever flavor you are federating from. And pardon me I have not read this entire thread of replies but I hope it is full of nothing but welcome!
Not all of Lemmy is political. A lot is though, so I can imagine that it may seem charged.
But what’s really happening here is that everything is… transparent. That’s why I’m here. If there is bias, it’s visible.
The trouble with the corporate alternatives is that their hidden bias is: control. Pardon the politics even here, but the fact is our society has never reflected a situation where one group exercises dictatorial control over almost everyone with complete immunity.
Because with all their creepy animated emoji things and predictive analytics they are putting folks asleep. Wake, work, isolate, Sleep. This is the bias of corporate social media. Emphasis on isolate.
So… welcome…
And enjoy. It’s nice to be a part of a place where people are more awake.
But under all interactions should be the vibe that we all in this together.
So welcome. Enjoy. Find you place and your people. Ignore posts that alarm or annoy you.

I like using my own library of MP3s and knowing that for at least a small amount of time, I’m not being tracked in terms of what I’m listening. My clickwheel has a solid state terabyte so I just threw everything onto it.
If you long to use those nano-s, there are some cheap old Mac’s showing up on eBay or Craig’s list sometimes.

I run Linux on my daily driver, but I’m addicted to the click wheel iPod and I use this machine because of iTunes.
