        PFAS is gonna fuck us, but simultaneously is super useful. Not much modern indoor plumbing works without ptfe paste/tape somewhere.

        Dying would be a relief at this point. I’m not afraid of dying. I’m afraid for the 5 lives that depend on me to make through every dumbass decision this administration makes to line their own pockets while taking from mine. These fluctuations occur every Sunday to manipulate money markets and give some white dude a huge boner.

        Your nihilistic views may sound cool in your head, but caring for a family in this economy is far more detailed than just waiting to die.

      If the infinite growth machine can't make a profit fixing climate change, it simply won't be fixed.

      No amount of home recycling, power saving, water reduction, etc. you can do will offset the pollution generated by companies in the pursuit of money.

    Do what I do. Stockpile stuff to get through the first 2-4 weeks. But have your house sabotaged in such a way that anything useful to anyone is destroyed, eat a fistful of sleeping pills and a deadmans switch to burn the whole thing down.

      Just wait until we hit the ocean acidification tipping point where it becomes impossible for certain tiny creatures at the base of the food chain to form calcium-based hard shells.

      The whole ocean won’t hit that point all at the same time, but once we get close, it will happen very rapidly, affecting most of the oceans in the world within a few years. Entire ocean ecosystems will rapidly collapse when the bottom of the food chain falls out from under them. Already-strained fisheries will suddenly run completely out of fish, quickly driving the last few populations to extinction. But that’s only the tip of the iceberg for our problems. Those tiny organisms have a profound impact on the entire world’s climate and weather patterns, as well as being a huge part of the carbon cycle. When the oceans die, the effects felt on land will be extreme.

    AI takeover causes economic collapse. Economic collapse causes WW3. WW3 causes another pandemic. (And, meanwhile, climate change is slowly destroying the environment, accelerating the economic collapse, worsening the pandemic, and being accelerated by AI and WW3.)

      Don’t worry about this pandemic.

      But the next one, and the one after that? Maybe worth worrying about. Sooner or later, one that is a high risk will come around. And if it happens within the next 3 years or so, you can count on this regime doing exactly the wrong thing and making it worse than it otherwise would have been. Even if it happens later than that, with a responsible government in charge … there’s only so much that even a good government can do against a truly virulent plague.

    Unless you're someone with the power to actually influence policy of the country you live in - in which case what the fuck are you doing reading this, fix your shit - then you realistically can't do jack about these issues.

    If you try to fight every battle that's coming our way, rally behind every issue, you'll get burnt out - and that's exactly what those sending them to you want to happen.
