Hi, Feddit admin here. I would like to apologize for B-TR3E’s behavior and have given them a temporary instance ban for their misbehavior not only here but on other comms as well.
Their misbehavior was brought to my attention and it was enough to take action since we expect our users to behave regardless of which instance they are on (at least when it comes to common courtesy).
Hindsight is 20/20.

Might depend on the material. I have -3.5dpt on both sides and my glasses have half the width and glare. Or are those some random units again?
I assumed he’d estimated it based on how distorted the face appears behind the glasses. I do that all the time.
At this angle it’s hard for me to do that, since I usually use the edges of the face to estimate it. negative glasses pull the line inwards, positive outwards. I can reliably tell when someone is wearing fake glasses (0 strength) for example, and probably estimate strength within 30% of the actual value.
If the image was higher res maybe I could estimate this case too. Or this professional optometrist is just a lot better at it than I am.

i think he is referring to the strength of her prescription. a -1 or -1.5 diopter prescription is mild - i.e. her glasses aren’t strong enough for the person she offered them to. misogyny was not intended

What? I think you missed what he is saying like the reply to him. He was talking about her glasses not her looks. If he doubled down it would have just been him explaining what he meant and that would be that.

Now the other guy saw the issue and corrected his comment with a follow up. I just meant that he did that in a really good way. He could have also chosen to never admit a mistake and just become a misogynist now.

Look, I was a bit slow understanding a joke, so were 90% here. I got it and made another joke about it, that 90% here did not get because they were busy voting the “evil guy” down and making spiteful comments about somebody seemingly not the sharpest knive in the drawer. I got the joke. Took me three minutes. You, OTOH, will be the small minded, cowardish piece of shit that you are for all your life. Your mentality attacking anonymously out of the crowd, looking for a “victim” that momentarilly has no lobby is what we see from people like the ICE. I’ve got a pretty wife I have been married to for more than two decades, she’s got more character under her toenail than you’ll have all your life. So I still might “die alone”, right, asshole. My understanding is that the Dr. was referring to her glasses prescription, but the numbers he provided were misinterpreted as some sort of rating on her appearance (or perhaps basketball performance).
He didn’t intend to cause that confusion, which is why he acknowledged that his choice of wording was not ideal. I hope that clears things up.
