- Comment on She only wanted the ring bros 3 weeks ago:
When my daughter was born, my wife and I would take turns caring for her through the night. She pumped breast milk so I had access to food as needed on my nights, and she could breastfeed directly on her nights.
It soon became clear that our daughter preferred direct breastfeeding to the bottle, but I was much better at calming her and getting her back to sleep. The result was that I ended up covering my wife’s nights more frequently because she was otherwise at home with the baby all day while I was at work and felt like she needed the break. I was also “used” to sleep deprivation from the past years when I was working full-time while also going to college full-time, and she would stay home and watch TV, read, or paint.
I was constantly exhausted for the first 6 months, until she was mostly able to sleep through most nights. I would regularly apologize to my coworkers for my reduced cognitive ability because I didn’t get any sleep the previous night or two, and my boss would express how he didn’t understand how I was still vertical. Thankfully they were all very understanding and accommodating, and I was at least still able to get most of my work done to our standard of quality, albeit much more slowly than usual.
I didn’t have time, opportunity, or energy to even consider the prospect of intimacy at that time, so I absolutely sympathize with new mothers with absentee partners that have normal levels of energy and libido.

I don’t think those plastic tracks could support the weight of a human adult even if they were large enough for the wheelchairs. Especially not at the force they’d have to endure to reach sufficient looping speed and the looping itself. That’s to say nothing about the risk to the person in the wheelchair.
Is that the joke? The absurdity of the scenario?
I’m also not entirely clear how wheelchairs = hot wheels implicitly. Are you commenting on the appearance of the women in the wheelchairs, is it something to do with the wheelchairs themselves, or is it just the association that they both have wheels? Maybe something else entirely?
Apologies for my struggling to fully understand. I appreciate your clarifications.

I don’t understand, are they supposed to be looking at the reader seductively because the reader has hot wheels? Is that why you need a bigger track? So that everyone can play with the hot wheels together?
Something is clearly going over my head.

Thanks for the clarification. Given the context of how this comment thread has developed, I didn’t know what to expect.
- Comment on My glasses 1 month ago:
I’m not sure how to interpret this since I don’t wear glasses. I can’t tell if your response was intended as a compliment, insult, joke, or something else entirely.
Full disclosure, I’m on the spectrum so there is likely something that is going over my head. I can only hope that your comment was given with positive intentions and was intended to evoke positive feelings in the reader.
- Comment on My glasses 1 month ago:
My understanding is that the Dr. was referring to her glasses prescription, but the numbers he provided were misinterpreted as some sort of rating on her appearance (or perhaps basketball performance).
He didn’t intend to cause that confusion, which is why he acknowledged that his choice of wording was not ideal. I hope that clears things up.

So sorry for the incredibly late response but this absolutely helped make it click for me. Thank you for the detailed explanation!

Haha fair enough

If you were to tell an average English speaker that you were going to dig an indentation, chances are high that they would misinterpret your meaning.
On the other hand, if you told them that you were going to dig a “blind hole,” I imagine they would have a much better understanding of your meaning and you would still be technically correct.

I absolutely agree! But as I said in my initial response, I personally would think of that as more of a flattering compliment than anything else. I don’t understand why the dad found the similarities so overwhelmingly funny that he was on the floor laughing, struggling to breathe, with tears in his eyes.
Apparently OP understood the context as a “sick burn,” and I’m assuming the dad was laughing for some sort of similar mean spirited reason. I just feel like I’m out of the loop and I’m not understanding why the comparison is funny or any kind of burn.

I appreciate you trying to help me understand, but I’m sorry to say that I still don’t get it. Are large eyeglasses inherently funny for some reason?
Full disclosure I’m on the autistic spectrum, so I’m sure there is something obvious that I’m missing. In my mind large eyeglasses make a lot of sense because they cover a fuller degree of the field of view for the wearer.

I think that’s awesome! Mirabel is an amazing protagonist and Encanto is a wonderful movie, in my opinion. I would probably be more confused by dad’s reaction than anything else.

Bahaha great minds I suppose. I tried searching for a similar post before making mine and didn’t find anything, but clearly I didn’t search for long enough.
