What store is this?
rtxn@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Droid-ify client, which is an alternative client for F-Droid.
If you’ve never used F-droid, give it a go: f-droid.org/en/about/. It’s a FOSS package manager for Android and nothing more. All it does is host, install, update, and manage applications. No ads, no sponsored suggestions, no ranking. It has strict submission requirements, only serves FOSS apps, and prominently lists apps’ “anti-features” (tracking, reliance on third-party services, things you may not like).
HReflex@pawb.social 2 months ago
It looks like Droid-ify to me
Estebiu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 months ago
they’re not in the defult repo :/
Aeri@lemmy.world 2 months ago
I like how they expertly hide the fact that it’s nazi propaganda and the photos are like “uh, here’s some pictures of plants! It’s uh, people share uh, gardening tips yeah!”
llii@discuss.tchncs.de 2 months ago
At least they show what they think of women.

If only someone finally forced iOS to be open for other stores
possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 2 months ago
You could just use something that isn’t iOS
zqps@sh.itjust.works 2 months ago
Droid-ify is also great.
WTF is that last search result though 🫣
vk6flab@lemmy.radio 2 months ago
I see this in Australia.
Quicky@lemmy.world 2 months ago
iOS vs Android, and region I expect. Although I’m in the UK, and I can’t imagine it’s that popular here.
finley@lemm.ee 2 months ago
The ad on top is selected from a pool of ads from companies that paid for their placement up there. If you run the search again, it will probably show an ad for Snapchat or Instagram or something.
SouthEndSunset@lemm.ee 2 months ago
Yeah, I’ve just scrolled down the iOS App Store, I didn’t see anything for the fediverse.
thehatfox@lemmy.world 2 months ago
I’m also using iOS in the UK. I just tried searching for Pixelfed in the App Store and the ad was for some sort of golf tutoring app.
The top search result was the Pixelfed app and the others all other Fediverse apps.
WolfLink@sh.itjust.works 2 months ago
You’re still getting an ad as the top result, just a different ad.
MiDaBa@lemmy.ml 2 months ago
Yeah but he’s getting a relevant ad. I’m sure Tim is pushing the Truth Social ad for free as a way to donate another million to Trump.
Psythik@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Don’t know if it works on iOS, but in Android you can block ads systemwide by setting your DNS server to dns.adguard-dns.com.
QualifiedKitten@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Note that this may occasionally interfere with things. I was having trouble with in-flight WiFi last time I flew, and I once I switched the Private DNS setting back to Automatic, it suddenly worked.
Psythik@lemmy.world 2 months ago
True. Public wifi doesn’t like it when you use your own DNS servers cause it makes it slightly harder for them to spy on you and inject ads into web pages.
Thankfully all you gotta to is switch the DNS setting to Off (or Automatic), then re-enable it when you’re home. Takes 10 seconds.
Amanduh@lemm.ee 2 months ago
Same with googling things and clicking on the first few links because they’re advertisement links
brb@sh.itjust.works 2 months ago
I’m using AdAway for systemwide adblocking but it doesn’t block sponsored apps in Play Store. Can Adguard DNS block these?
WrenFeathers@lemmy.world 2 months ago
“….without discriminating on the basis of political ideology.”
Isn’t discrimination like, the entire purpose of what Truth Social is about?
ohlaph@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Shhh… They don’t want their feelings hurt.
renzev@lemmy.world 2 months ago
The type of people that truth social is designed for (conservatives, rightists, fascists) are often shunned for discriminating against minorities. Here they’re trying to pull a “no u”, to say that akshually we’re the ones who are discriminated against in mainstream media, and we’re gonna build our own platform with no discrimination, making us more virtuous than you. They don’t believe they actually have less discrimination, to them “discrimination” is a playing token in the game of morals. Actually, it would be more accurate to say that it doesn’t matter whether or not they believe they have less discrimination, because having less discrimination was never the goal. The card says moops.
Anti_Face_Weapon@lemmy.world 2 months ago
They should be taken down for false advertisement etc. You don’t get to claim not to discriminate on political ideology if you also censor and delist posts that you disagree with.
WrenFeathers@lemmy.world 2 months ago
The democrats lacked the tenacity to ever have done it, and the criminal enterprise that currently infest our government would never cease the hardworking blowhards that feed their wind-tunnel.
viking@infosec.pub 2 months ago
If you read the reviews on the play store, it seems like people get banned left and right for posting factual truth. So much for “freedom of speech”. Not like anyone expected that in the first place from a fascist echo chamber, but hey.
proper@lemmy.world 2 months ago
I didn’t realize til now the logo looks just like polyend
Quicky@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Oh wow, they’re almost identical. That may come back to bite Dan on the ass.
can@sh.itjust.works 2 months ago
Eh, it’s different enough and they’re in different markets anyway. Theirs is rounded at the bottom but Pixelfed’s is straight.
abbadon420@lemm.ee 2 months ago
In stead of “ad free photo sharing” you get “photo free ad sharing”
hungryphrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 months ago
Also truth free.
HeyJoe@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Maybe it’s because I block most ads on my network, but I don’t see any ad when searching for this app on android.
SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 2 months ago
Neither do I. I only have Fdroid and the Aurora Store App. Got that MicroG so the Play Store would not even work on my phone. Using CalyxOS
antiquity2038@reddthat.com 2 months ago
By the way, the official Pixelfed app on the Play Store seems to have Google AdMob integrated if you care about that kind of thing. I’d recommend installing Pixelix or PixelDroid from the official F-Droid repositories instead.
ArsonButCute@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 months ago
The official pixelfed app has a repo on f-droid, you can install it via the QR code in the download link on the pixelfed website
antiquity2038@reddthat.com 2 months ago
Does the F-Droid version not ship with Google AdMob?
viking@infosec.pub 2 months ago
Does it have a dark mode? I used the website mostly which is alright, but tried the app when they announced it a couple days ago, and that was my first issue.
antiquity2038@reddthat.com 2 months ago
Pixelix and PixelDroid both have a dark mode.
finley@lemm.ee 2 months ago
The ad on top is randomly generated, and it is a paid app for a social media site. If you run the search again, it will come up with a different app on top. It might be Snapchat, Instagram, or through social, or any other social media app.
Quicky@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Yeah as I say, I know why it’s there, and that you will see different ones. It just caught my eye because of the likely wildly different ideals of the two apps’ customers.
technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 months ago
it is a paid app for a ~~social media ~~ fascist site.
Showroom7561@lemmy.ca 2 months ago
I get an ad for a crypto app! (Canada).
I do have my privacy settings locked down, so they are listing non-targeted ads.
wise_pancake@lemmy.ca 2 months ago
Same, also locked down all my settings.
Quicky@lemmy.world 2 months ago
I haven’t done that many Nazi-related things recently, so if it is targeted, there’s something off with Apple’s algorithm.
Showroom7561@lemmy.ca 2 months ago
Well, I can say that if I dare use YouTube without an account, things spiral to the extreme right very quickly! It’s as if these companies are either purposely pushing this agenda, or they are being paid to from outside influences.
uninvitedguest@lemmy.ca 2 months ago
Coinbase?
MiDaBa@lemmy.ml 2 months ago
Apple is probably pushing that Ad free of charge. Considering how quickly Tim preemptively bent the knee just on the chance it would benefit him and the shareholders is obscene. I’ve always known Tim only cared about money. After all, that’s the only thing he did better than Steve Jobs. Now I know for sure that he’s a worthless selfish waste of a human being.
OsrsNeedsF2P@lemmy.ml 2 months ago
ooh is that the new iPhone?
cupcakezealot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 months ago
There’s a 99.9% chance those screenshots of the app in the App Store listing are fake considering there’s no antisemitism in those posts at all. 🤔
danciestlobster@lemm.ee 2 months ago
I mean the woman posting there identifies herself as a follower, seems on brand for the platform
Frostbeard@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Fuck. For a second there I thought it was an ad in Lemmy, and was enraged that this shit was pushed. Don’t care me like that
Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 2 months ago
I love how they have to advertise exactly what that social media (TS) isn’t, a big tent social media platform. I’m sure the rubes eat it up.

hungryphrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 months ago

“Simplicity is key, a good cut of beef, salt, pepper and olive oil”. Ironically I suspect that, despite it being steak and being posted by a woman talking about cooking, such a post would still cop a lot of flack and trigger a lot of the type of people that would choose to use Truth Social because of the mention of seed oil over animal fat.

Well Truth Social a siloed Mastodon instance
AnimalsDream@slrpnk.net 2 months ago
Anybody whose been plant-based and/or vegan for some time can vouch that targeted ads very frequently are not about what’s actually relevant to the user, but more what their favorite corporate partners can try to gaslight you into believing is relevant. On both Facebook and YouTube I would get so many more ads and video results for animal products after making the switch, despite seeking out solely pb/vegan content and actively blocking and suppressing animal abuse content.
stinerman@midwest.social 2 months ago
This is top level enshittification. You’re showing the user an ad that is, as OP says, the opposite of what they want, and then charging Truth Social for the impression. Magnificent!
CurlyWurlies4All@slrpnk.net 2 months ago
‘Targeted advertising’ is shockingly untargetted. As the underpinnings of our digital economy, the value of online advertising is dangerously overinflated.
Mr_Blott@feddit.uk 2 months ago
I occasionally buy tools, and damn right I research them until I know they’re “buy it for life” quality
Then I spend the next few weeks getting bombarded by ads for a tool I will never ever buy
Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Could you imagine the carnage in tech stocks if corporations realized ads are dogshit?
Uruanna@lemmy.world 2 months ago
It’s targeting what they want to sell you depending on what target group you are, it’s never been what might actually interest you personally.
Rooty@lemmy.world 2 months ago
When I watched youtube on my phone, logged into my google profile, I got generic TV ads for women’s hair care products.
I am a bald man.
FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 months ago
The only time I ever click on an ad for anything is because I want to see exactly how much they are charging for whatever clearly ridiculous thing they’re advertising. Meaning I was never planning on buying it. Thankfully, that is rare.
technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 months ago
See also every single sponsored ad on my Instagram.
