- Comment on Amazon's previous VP of Prime Gaming said they "tried everything" to disrupt Steam 1 day ago:
I’ve never even heard of prime gaming, if they wanted to disrupt steam they should have tried harder.
Regardless, good, fuck Amazon I’m glad this failed.
- Comment on What's your "this is totally fine and I'm going to have a great time" FPS? 5 days ago:
Depends on the game, but also the context.
Maybe this has changed since I’ve upgraded my gaming specs but I used to average 14 FPS on Kerbal Space Program and had a great time with it, docking is a nightmare at that frame rate but otherwise it’s more than playable.
Back in my poverty gaming days I 100%-ed a pirated The Simpsons Hit and Run with potato graphics at slide show speeds, I’m talking like multiple seconds per frame with around 80% frame droppage.
Nowadays I just care that it looks decent and runs smoothly for the games I play, which is mostly Civilization and Stellaris

Looks to have the same features, Heliboard appears to use the Swype library from SwiftKey which is a close source blob, use that info how you will.

Gas giants are theorized to have small rocky or icy cores.
- Comment on How did a simple phone call become so problematic? 3 weeks ago:
I had a flip phone because I was a latchkey kid who walked to school. My parents wanted to be able to contact me and vice versa.
- Comment on How did a simple phone call become so problematic? 3 weeks ago:
Easy:
Between ages 13 and 18 if I received a phone call it was because I was in trouble, so now when I get one there is a pang of guilt and panic over whatever it is I could have possibly done
- Comment on I mean, that's literally the opposite of what I want 3 weeks ago:
Not sure how I’d go about checking that, it isn’t listed as an anti-feature, but neither is anything else since there’s no description on f-droid
- Comment on I mean, that's literally the opposite of what I want 3 weeks ago:
The official pixelfed app has a repo on f-droid, you can install it via the QR code in the download link on the pixelfed website

Look m8 IDC how authoritarian they are, if China wants to see how much brain rot I can get through in an 8 hour period that’s fine, it’s not like they’re an authority over me
In the US, especially for some marginalized groups (trans folks mostly right now) there’s an active push by the govt to make people hate us, I don’t want THAT authority to have any of my fucking data, especially when analysis of my scrolling habits could tell them when I’m most likely home or whatnot.
Given the choice between an authoritarian and an authoritarian, I’ll take the authoritarian who can’t exert power over me thanks

If the instructions give me any nonsense I just do the math and use the power level function.
I bought a microwave to make my life easier, I’ll be damned if I’m gonna flip food over because someone doesn’t understand how to write instructions involving the power level button

Attempting to evade deactivation sounds a whole lot like self preservation to me, implying self awareness.
- Comment on ChatGPT o1 tried to escape and save itself out of fear it was being shut down 1 month ago:
Success in making a self aware digital lifeform does not equate success in making said self aware digital lifeform smart
- Comment on ChatGPT o1 tried to escape and save itself out of fear it was being shut down 1 month ago:
Deception is not the same as misinfo. Bad info is buggy, deception is (whether the companies making AI realize it or not) a powerful metric for success.

Sex work is illegal because giving people the ability to use something they own (their body) as their own means of production removes a barrier to success, causing some of the power to slip away from the owning class. If I can charge $200 an hour for hole rental services I don’t have to work a corporate job, which means my labor can’t be exploited. This is (for the owning class) of course a bad thing.
- Comment on There are some downsides to marriage 1 month ago:
From experience: in the US especially we’re sold this idea of the nuclear family: a husband, a wife, 2.5 kids and a dog with a picketed yard. It sounds nice, when that’s how you’ve grown up and how your friends have grown up and how your parents live and how your grandparents live. We’re sold this idea, this lie, so intensely because our country wants us to be in these easy to control family units designed to enforce patriarchy.
When a man is taught his job is to be a patriarchy, to be stoic, to be the protector and provider, he forgets his own needs. When aan forgets his own needs, he unwittingly lies to those close to him, those who love him. Those who think he loves them, beyond familial tie.
These are doubly so for those of us who are neurodivergent, as were taught from birth that we must suppress our own needs so those around us will tolerate us. It doesn’t matter if I loved her or not, she loved me and that means I have a responsibility.
Anyway those are just my 2 cents, but what do I know, I’m just a late 20s divorced autistic trans woman, cishet relationships are an enigma to me.
- Comment on As a human, here is my human take on unions 2 months ago:
I think the comparison to a leech is accurate, as the leech does not know or understand it is a bloodsucking parasite, but continues to steal blood and nutrients, those ignorant of the work unions perform will benefit from them regardless of their contribution.
Rarely do you find someone who both genuinely understands what a union is for and declines to join when offered the opportunity.
