Is theoretical physics just reverse engineering the physics engine by playing with variables and tracking the changes?

I usually don’t like to dogpile onto authors but I went to look at their article history (at least at this outlet) and they look to be almost Invariably Click-bait and or AI Trash.

This is super cool and I’d definitely tuck it away for later use if I weren’t allergic to fire ant venom.

- Comment on Discord CEO steps down, replaced with former Activision Blizzard CSO as they work towards being a public company 2 weeks ago:
I’m still early in the research phases but so far the plan is a combined client for Galene and Mastadon. The current plan is to rip apart the apps as they exist and pull out the chunks useful for my needs, then build a basic webapp to interface with them that I can share with my friends.
Ideally I’d like to eventually roll out a docker image of the server stack as well so anyone can host it with just a couple clicks.

I’m already working on a tool to replace discord for my gaming group. Planning on rolling out a stack of open source IM and Voice/Video chat with ActivityPub for text chat rooms.
Integrating them all into one app is where I’ll have trouble, especially since when replacing big corpo tools they need to work perfectly the first time or nobody willvdver want to use it.

If the universe is infinite in size it is a statistical requirement for a god, or a being that has ability we would consider to be godlike, must exist somewhere.

I’ve been arguing for a while that AI will change the art landscape, and I mostly get hate for it. I’m an artist, I use AI as a springboard for inspiration, feeding nonsense into prompts and making sense of the garbage it sends back fit’s nicely into my entropy focused creation process.
A good artist will be able to pick up a tool and learn to create with it. Anyone can make a prompt and slap an image down with an AI model but it takes an artist to make art with one. Same with brushes though, or pens or pencils. Any jagoff can pick up a set of brushes and lay paint on a canvas but it takes an artist to make art with them.

I disagree that it’s pointless. I think it may be beneficial to humanity (eventually) to establish whether or not there is an objective reality which we all experience.

- Comment on Online Wars Aside, 'Snow White' Simply Isn't Getting Moviegoers to Buy In 1 month ago:
Maybe I’d want to see disney remake a movie with modern ideals and values, but Disney doesn’t have ideals or values. That’s why this has taken over a decade, bastards keep scrapping it every time they get a little bit of heat. Same reason the sequel trilogy was half baked. Just leave it in the fucking oven til it’s done, stop giving the whole world a view so far from the finish line.

Bees and ants are in the wasp family.
If wasps go, so to does much of the biodiversity among pollinators.

I’ve never even heard of prime gaming, if they wanted to disrupt steam they should have tried harder.
Regardless, good, fuck Amazon I’m glad this failed.
- Comment on What's your "this is totally fine and I'm going to have a great time" FPS? 2 months ago:
Depends on the game, but also the context.
Maybe this has changed since I’ve upgraded my gaming specs but I used to average 14 FPS on Kerbal Space Program and had a great time with it, docking is a nightmare at that frame rate but otherwise it’s more than playable.
Back in my poverty gaming days I 100%-ed a pirated The Simpsons Hit and Run with potato graphics at slide show speeds, I’m talking like multiple seconds per frame with around 80% frame droppage.
Nowadays I just care that it looks decent and runs smoothly for the games I play, which is mostly Civilization and Stellaris
