We’ve been paying attention?
Or to put it more nicely: no one finds this side of the fediverse without feeling at least a little burned by corporations.

“I made a mod that replaces cliffracers with Thomas the Tank Engine,” Trainwiz wrote on the Nexus Mods page for Really Useful Cliffracers. “I am incapable of learning lessons whenever it involves corporations, because I fundamentally do not view toy company CEOs or media CEOs as people.”

I’m trying not to be pessimistic but all I can think is they’re going to take a greater portion of royalties from the artists* who already have a very small percentage.
And then they’ll go and train their AI models on it for free anyway.
Despite going through being acquired a couple times themself, for now I still have to recommend Bandcamp.

I worry a lot of tracks, especially from smaller artists, are going to be removed.

This is truly devastating news. Major labels are going to heavily abuse direct access to this database.
I regret ever contributing.

There are a few cases where it can be convenient but it’s rare and reserved for ones that act more like an rss feed. And I do subscribe to some of the similar rss feed mirroring communities/instances.

It’s been tried. It sounds like a good idea but all you get are a bunch of threads with no comments and an OP that can never reply.
There was even one that spun up a Lemmy acct for each reddit user that they could claim to ease the transition.
While a cool concept it was largely derided by the existing threadiverse users.

I’m speculating, but a lot of incel stuff came from 4chan’s /r9k/ board, robot9000, and I think some of the robot (android) part remains.

It’s not that logical. It could be a by-product of some other process with some advantageous to species. Or maybe it just happened and didn’t increase our chance of death.
- Comment on Microsoft reportedly estimated that Game Pass led to $300 million in lost sales of Black Ops 6, with 82% of copies sold being on the Game Pass-less PlayStation 5 1 month ago:
This is an internal estimate that was never meant to be public, and it casts a negative light on a flagship project at the company—the incentive when making this estimate was to be as accurate as possible. We don’t know how Microsoft produced the figure, but it was presumably the result of fairly sophisticated projections.

Oh I was under no impression that it was Lemmy related. We could only hope for someone that high-profile to give us a shoutout.

Generally, yes, but on this part of the fediverse I’m usually only unsure when when it’s something far in the other direction.
No one spews anti-“woke” around here. Not for long at least.
