Humans are incredible long distance runners. We did a lot of hunting by “Chase it until it collapses”
9 months/15 years
Our brains take a loooooong time to mature, but it’s worth it. We can plan ahead without relying on survival instincts, and we keep making amazing discoveries like fire and clothes

I used to talk shit people to their face and compliment them behind their back. Thought it was cool. Anyways, didn’t work at the workplace.

- Comment on [deleted] 4 days ago:
Compared to outside of the US, this is true, but within the US he was pretty leftist. He publicly supported UBI, pushed for renewables, donated to the Obama and Hillary campaign, etc. Now he’s anri-trans, pro-Trump x1000, but there used to be a time he cared.
- Comment on [deleted] 4 days ago:
The left has undeniably alienated some of their group (my mum was alienated by trans rights, I was alienated by the DNC, Elon was allegedly alienated by Biden’s EV push ignoring Tesla), but I think the bigger problem is the left doesn’t fight for things people care about.
The right are the only ones in the news cycle (look at how many articles we have about Trump, even when he wasn’t president) which, to anyone who doesn’t treat politics like sports teams, makes you obviously see a thing or true that you support Republicans on. This imo is the critical flaw of the left; I now have no reason to be excited about their platform, and I’m completely numb to anything they say negatively about Trump.

I work in big tech. 10 years ago, nobody was talking about going back to India, Pakistan, and to an extent, China. Now, people are talking about it. They’re talking about Indian stocks, Indian houses, and dreams of retiring to go back.
Most people aren’t - but the number is now non-zero.

I really don’t understand this comment (maybe I need to go to sleep), but I don’t see OP referring to any culture war, and I can’t say Republican’s are the only ones inciting culture wars (they might be inciting the ones I disagree with, but it is a culture war to push for equal rights)
- Comment on Why aren't there mass protests in the USA? 1 week ago:
Can’t mass protest if you don’t have a way to get people in one location. United States car infra prevents that.

- Comment on How do the Republicans feel about Project 2025 now? 1 week ago:
Honestly we knew that, even if Trump wasn’t involved, the people around him were. Y’all are too gullible. Even today I see posts on Lemmy about “Elon did this, Trump did that”, pure noise draining out the real news that happens once or twice a week.
- Comment on Mom horrified by Character.AI chatbots posing as son who died by suicide - Ars Technica 1 week ago:
I hate this attitude of “well if you can’t get a professional therapist, figure out how to get one anyways”. There needs to be an option for people who either can’t afford or can’t access a therapist. I would love for AI to fill that gap. No, it won’t be as good, but in many regions the wait-list for therapy is far too long.
- Comment on Mom horrified by Character.AI chatbots posing as son who died by suicide - Ars Technica 1 week ago:
About 3 percent of students in the study had positive mental health outcomes, reporting that talking to the chatbot “halted their suicidal ideation.” But researchers also found “there are some cases where their use is either negligible or might actually contribute to suicidal ideation.”
This is referring to a bot designed to help with people struggling with mental health, and is actually a big one. That number is way too low.
- Comment on Redditors told me to go to a therapist but I can’t afford one nor pick one from thousands available. What now? 1 week ago:
Online therapy is good. One of the major downsides is it doesn’t get you going outside though, which is a major benefit of therapy at a clinic.
Other than that, make more friends and chat it out with them (join a run club in your city, for example) or use an AI therapist. There’s a lot of people who will shreik and yell at these options, but if you have no other options, they’re great

- Comment on what are the chances of irreparable damage due to obstructed blood circulation during sleep? 1 week ago:
Real answer: You’re fine. It can take up to a week to come back to normal. Realistically you don’t need to see a doctor.
Source: my friend slept funny on an airplane, couldn’t feel his arms for a week. Doctor told him it takes up to a week to come back.

Previous System76 owner here - Switched to Framework for my second laptop. Yes, System76 contributes upstream to Linux, but Framework is just better. My System76 needed a fan replaced and it was lowkey annoying - Paid over 150$ to have it done; such an upgrade is much easier on the Framework (not to mention the customization lets you get exactly what you need and pay for nothing more)

The craziest thing is this (real) article doesn’t address things like wet bulbs which can be fatal, and no amount of heat tolerance will change that.
So not is it proof The Washington Post is class traitor garbage, but also that their journalism isn’t even good
